Some of you may have already seen a post by me about this,but then again,maybe not.
The National Kidney Foundation has started organizing the 2011 Kidney Walk in my area.
I plan to have a team and walk again this year.
The question right now is, do we go with The Kidney Walkers , which was my/our (The Warriors) team last year, or go with a new team name?
I want to get the team started soon,so all input would be appreciated.
Please note:
This is completely separate from my personal fundraising.Anything raised for this goes directly to The National Kidney Foundation.

    I agree - stick with what you got - it was the winning team for one thing and for the other you want to sustain your momentum and branding.

    (p.s. I would make book on the fact you were the winning team in 2010 - law of attraction - success loves success - people want to be on the winning team - something like that)

    Besides, it will make life so much easier for KJ/Bill because he will only have to change the year and the date from last years logo instead of coming up with a whole new design.

      I'm thinking I could ride down on Sat. and ride home on Monday.

        Pretty much. We stayed at one of those "time share" resorts - 2 bedroom condo thing... It was very nice. This place is in Williamsburg.

        We did Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, Kings Dominion and of course Virginia Beach (got a great tan too).

        Lots of walking involved during the week. But well worth the trip.

            Ha ha... good point.

            However, I really don't consider myself a drummer. While it was something I wanted to do for as long as I can remember, I only took them up 14 years ago at the age of 33. I am self-taught, never played in a band and basically play on average of 30 to 40 minutes per week.

            It's a hobby, but one which I enjoy.

    Patrician, I didn't post anything about it here. I went in around 1am on the night of the 4th and came out the afternoon of Wednesday the 6th.
    Official diagnosis was angina due to high blood pressure. When I was admitted it was 243 over 113. Hopefully its at a manageable stage again now.

    Even though it was a "prize" for last year, I'm posting in the new drive thread.
    I have sent the new walk coordinator a picture of the Banner we carried and a picture of The Kidney Walkers Team from last year for the billboard. I asked if possible both pictures to be used. (The banner prominently features The Warrior Forum logo.)
    SHe agreed that was a good idea and said she will get the billboard graphic team on it to photoshop the two pics together.

    Been a while since we have revisited this thread. The walk this year is going to be November 6th.ONly about 45 days away. I am going to try to do the walk this year if the DRs clear me,but there is a good chance I can't.
    Last year between the Warrior forum and friends and family we raised $8,230.
    This year we are sitting at zero.
    If you click on this thread and read it and give $1-$5,then the Warriors will have once again given from their heart. Times are tough,so if you can't its understandable.

    There are a group here that I know give me support in many ways,some people have a hard time getting over the fact that its not always about money.
    I would have loved to get a group of Warriors dorn to join us,but that was before I found out I won't be able to walk the distance anyways. I still plan on being there and doing what I can again though, And as the older Warriors know, I don't give up.
    Do I think anything near the $8230 we (Warriors) eaised last year is feasable? No.
    DO I think a goal of $1000 doable? Yes,I do, The thread has had 500+ views,take away 100 which were probably mine, and thats still 400 views. If you read this thread and donate from $1-%5,then you can help us reach our goal and contribute to a great cause.

    How many of you know the kidney is an organ you can donate and give life to someone and still enjoy a healthy life at the same time? Its amazing what can be done.

    Next year will be better for all of us Thom,so there will be a spot for you,and Michael A and KJ ,and HeySal and Patrician,and Jody and andie and anyone else I am brainfarting at the moment!

    But right now I will settle for Warriors,old and new, to help us reach at least $1000!!

    Kim - there's no shame at all, not one person will look down on your or pity you for riding along on the walk. Those people are walking for people like you and future people like you. If it takes wheels or hooves - be with them and hold your head up. Where is there shame in being a wounded warrior?

    The quick answer is I don't think so. I know I still occasionally post about the WSO on Sumits page but other than that,no activity.

    Both are very random. I think the WSO had a sale about 2 weeks ago and I got a $10 donation to the gofundme just today. It's all needed and appreciated.

    Kim - money is very tight right now. I don't think anyone is abandoning you -- but not many are willing to pay high exec salaries to these charities anymore. They keep too much for themselves of what people give to help people like you. People are starting to turn away from charities and donating directly to the people who need help now. Many health charities are being exposed as being funded by major pharms and are actually perpetuating disease for their own sustenance. Cancer societie's help in perpetuation of cancer was just exposed.

    I'm sure you will see a resurgence of help when the money will be going to you for your own surgery - money we know will go to you getting what you need to survive.

    Last year's team.
    In the picture.My dialysis nurse at the time's daughter,his wife then him. Next is myself with my daughter next to me then my wife. Then you have my daughter's boyfriend,and then a couple of their friends,McKenzie and Gavin.

    Edit: I just realized I forgot my daughter's Boyfriend's daughter,the little girl is Jordan. She was one end of the banner holder and walked the whole mile with us!

    I will wait to tomorrow to update my sig again. it was fun on the countdown - even if it didn't generate zilch after a while.

    We did our best! That's all we can do and if it aint good enough
    i guess that's why they say we are so broke we can't even pay attention.

    Did anybody go on the walk there on your team, Kim? I have actually walked in walks a long time ago - the 1st or 2nd san francisco aids walk from the top of golden gate park/haight ashbury to the ocean and back. that was really fun and good exercise.

    and the diabetes walk in oakland one time with only $100 in donations. walking thru the downtown streets of murder city with hardly no direction - walkers were walking in twos and ones after the big gang burst out of the gate. and somehow we arrived at the lunch or whatever a few hours later.

    I must be lazy now but it never occurs to me to do something like that.

    Pat,
    I guess that which watches over us figured the 8K+ we raised last year was enough for two ywears worth of walks.

    Everyone in the picture walked in the walk,as a matter of fact that picture was taken right after we crossed the finish line.

    As I said in the other thread,they did not do the billboard as they led us to believe they would, but sometimes people make you think you have some control over something you really don't.

    Checking the team listings one last time, I like to believe what we did last year raised the bar for other teams this year.

    Either way, I'm still happy and proud of what we did this year, and in 2012, I hope Mike A and Thom and any other Warriors that are up to it will come and walk the walk with us.

    The Kidney Walkers 2012 will be a force to be reckoned with!
