Yay! I got into University to study marketing.

I've not been around for a while, but thought I'd share my success because I'm really happy at the moment.

I applied to university to complete my software engineering degree but got refused because I wasn't able to do the same course again within 5 years. I really wanted to go to university this year and get a focus in life. I was told to apply for another course.

So I write up a personal statement that outlined my success online, my knowledge and experience, and my interest in offline marketing.

Considering I got in on my experience and personal statement (didn't study marketing at college), I am very proud.

I can't wait to start learning new things from leading professionals and actually have a piece of paper to say I have a marketing qualification, and personal experience/success.

Anyone studying or studied marketing at university? Be great to hear about your experience.

Congratulations, James! Wonderful to turn life around.

I've been very isolated the past year with a massive (but not very profitable) focus on internet marketing. Had barely been around friends.

I figured out that I'm incredibly drawn towards United States to hang around with more open people and people with the same interests. But it's not easy to get in, as we all know. The easiest way is through studying, and college is awesome, after what i've heard.

I've decided to apply for several schools and study marketing or psychology after christmas.

How much do you think we'll improve as internet marketers, after studying marketing at Universities? Are those learning platforms correlated or pretty different?

And which university are you gonna attend? Thinking about going to either Santa Barbara, San Diego State (SD is the internet marketing "capital IMO) or Arizona State University (hot chicks).

      Rhetorical question right?

      Dan

PS: Not sure the OP will see your post as it's a little old now. Good luck whatever you do.

    I hope you do well.
That seems to be the minimum prerequisite for certain IM products in the "get rich overnight with no effort" niche. Formula:

    a. Insert school/grade you dropped out of because... (fill in the blank).
    b. Insert menial job you spent years doing.
    c. Describe how ****ty your life was and how miserable you felt.
    d. Add some good pics to lend it cred and spice it up. An image is worth a 1,000 words.
    e. Insert secret thing you suddenly woke and realized one day that none of the other 7 billion people living today (nor those before them) have thought of.
    f. Describe how this overnight let you quit your ****ty job, telly your boss to take a flying F, and make the killing that bought you 7 sports cars, massive mansion (pool and palm trees are mandatory, beach front is bonus)
    g. include at least one hard body wrapped around you. Bonus for any additional hard bodies who display overt hero worship toward you.

Not to take anything away from anyone who's succeeded in such a manner, or by following such a system - as in my opinion you would have succeeded anyway - but I wouldn't trade my four year university education for *all* of the "Guru" systems. And I've seen some posts from War Room members, who've apparently been at this awhile, display a truly baffling incomprehension of the marketing/human behaviour connection. I've seen them flippantly dismiss core marketing principles that are entirely based on understanding human behaviour and applying that knowledge to marketing. I guess this wasn't covered in their internet guru guidebook.

In fairness, for every one of those who I've seen display that level of total disconnect, there have been many others who've well understood the relationship, so there is no generalization being made here and therefore no need for anyone to reply with a flame because they didn't read the entire post or prefer to jump on someone rather than asking for clarification if they miss that important point.

To the OP: congratulations on making the single best decision you'll ever make in life. There is no absolute value to place on a university education because it benefits you in all aspects of life, in every career or business venture you undertake, and it provides a bedrock foundation to build on after you graduate.

I agree, it sets apart the quick buck artists from the real marketers.

Well I had a bachelor's degree in Economics during college with marketing subjects as prerequisites. I hardly remember how I got into internet marketing specifically in SEO and Analytics. Both have similarities in economics (SEO) and Statistics (analytics) so I guess this is where I belong.
