Question 1: If you want to start an online business, but need some funds to start it up, but don't have a job, can you still get a credit card?

Question 2: If you end up getting a credit card, and do some freelance work to pay off the first three months of minimum payment, but end up getting fired at the fourth month, how long will it be until they take your credit card away?

If you have to ask these kind of questions then the answer is probably no, then again if you have a solid history of good credit then you'll be fine.

The only way to find out is too apply, nothing anyone on here can do for you.

    Oh dear.

Please dont get a credit card. If you cant afford something, don't get it.

    You'll thank me later.

Only thing you need to get is a job and then a debit card if you want to transact online.

(of course this is my view, feel free to do what you like)

If you apply for a credit card, they will want to see that you will be able to pay the bill. One part of that is your credit history, the other part is whether you are bringing in enough income. So you don't really need a classic job; but whatever freelance work you do needs to bring in enough consistent money. They want to feel comfortable that the line of credit will be repayed.

You can get a 'pre-paid' credit card - that will help you from going into debt spending money you don't have, or worse getting a bad credit rating when you can't pay the bill.

With a pre-paid credit card you can use it online to process transactions etc. (whereas most companies don't accept debit cards unless they have a Visa Logo).

(but if it is money you don't have and you want to use credit instead it won't help since you need to deposit money first - however living on funny money (money you don't have) is a bad bad idea anyway)

People like YOU are the reason why credit cards took SO long to catch on, and are the reason for the 2008 crash! People like YOU are the reason why the last main bank I had went BANKRUPT! As for the answers to your questions?

    1. Typically, NO! And the worse you are, the lower the credit amount will be! American express, etc... are harder to get. Others offer credit lines of as little as less then $500.

    2. WHO CARES? Typically, they WON'T take your credit card away! Within 1-2 months of your payment being due, they will simply cut off the credit line! They USED to AUTOMATICALLY then charge a late fee, raise the rate, etc... NOW, some of that doesn't kick in, in the US, until you are 60 days late. If you are given a provisional line of credit, they may insist on payment in full before reinstatement, if they do reinstate it. BTW within 1 MONTH they will GREATLY restrict your ability to get another such line of credit. Trying to get more than one line at a time may prevent you from getting ANY! AGAIN, I am talking about the US here.

BTW most places don't accept credit cards without getting an auth on them. This takes a few seconds, and may change the moment the card company decides to. The days of a float are LONG gone! I have spoken with MANY in retail, and they generally don't even remember that time. oh well, it probably WAS close to 40 years ago!

FURTHER, there ARE laws that can come into place, and they COULD get the money back. There ARE still some laws that override others if FRAUD is involved. For example, it is illegal to fire a person without valid cause after you hire them. If they lie on their resume, about a past job, and you don't like them because they are blue, you can say they lied, and BYE! You are talking about FRAUD(a felony), and CREDIT CARD FRAUD(a FELONY).

BTW the base rate for credit cards is ALSO now HIGHER! A plan such as one YOU would have to get into would be even HIGHER! Things get REALLY bad once your FICO drops below the mid 700s. Judging by your post, I would say YOUR FICO is 0!!!!!! 0 IS better than say 500, but not MUCH better. If you get even ONE credit card, and leave a balance on it when it is closed, with no salaried job, your fico may be at the lowest non zero point and it may take you 4 years or more to bring it up to a reasonable value. I BELIEVE Credit cards are supposed to fall off after 2 years, though I haven't seen that, and it is supposed to take 2 years to build up a good record. But FRAUD and DEFAULT, like YOU are talking about could take SEVEN-TEN years to fall off! BTW attempts to get credit typically stay for one year, as I recall.

BTW if you are DECENT with a decent record, mistakes typically fall off after 6 months. OH, they have a record for 2 years, but they ignore it.

The way the system works is that you would need a job initially to show some income and establish your credit. Without any credit history or job it would be very tough to get a good line of credit, especially for business needs.

If you need a free credit/debit card then you can get this, but the problem is you have to upload it from their associated website for the first time then after that you can upload it from any where and can use it for any purposes around the world.
The card name is Payoneer and you can order it from Odesk.com.

You'll have to 'buy' a credit card (pre-paid) but I don't recommend it. You won't earn money right away, at least you won't be able to count on it. For your second question, they won't take a card away unless you don't pay the balance for a period of time.

Anybody can get credit card here so long they have the ability to pay in the future. No background check or anything very unlikely when someone gets his credit card in other places.

In the US, they often WLL do a credit check, and that CAN take on attributes of a police report. If you have liens, judgements, defaults, etc... they WILL show up!

you shouldn't rely on credit card at all. If you have no fund to start a business, just try to get a job first.

You just need to have a stream of money coming in to assure credit card companies that you're a good prospect for them to loot. I only use a credit card because much of the time one has to have one to carry out certain operations, eg to do some things online. I resent the extortion that forces me to support such organized crime. Banks, credit card companies, and mortgage lenders are looting entities and the wisest course to take is to support them as little as possible.

In Canada, if you don't have a steady job, you will most likely be asked to open a savings account with the amount your card is limited to. I think minimum was $500 when I was in college, the pre-recession era.

My kids are in college and they were offered credit cards without jobs. I think it's actually good to establish credit. Just make sure you use it wisely and don't overspend and make it a point to pay it back on time and pay it all back--don't get in debt.

As far as I know, you must have to have a steady income regardless if you are working for a company or online work, for you to be allowed to have your credit card. I am not sure if there are company who provide credit cards for those who are still looking for work.
But the best answer that you can have is for you to inquire from credit card companies themselves for they are capable of answering your questions. And also, they can explain it to you clearly.
