Hello,

I am thinking to get some projects from elance dealing with seo I have experience in SEO and link building but just no idea on how to win a bid.
Things I have learned so far are like detailed proposal and as a newbie low bid amount. I don't have much experience in writing proposals and I think portfolio is also very import part that job posters consider but I have my elance portfolio blank. I have applied for several seo projects but so far no success as the bids are still open. Need expert suggestions please.

Don't you think having a blank profile might be the reason?

No its not fully blank except the section that displays experience in the form of samples. You may look at it here seoexpresssolution.elance.com

Get first job on elance is but difficult, its better to use other outsourcing sites like Odesk and freelancer.com I will suggest you to go for odesk, because here you can get easily project and also small project too. On elance.com there are no small amount projects available that's why most of the time win bid against those project its really difficult.

Just aside from eLance - have you looked for people in this forum that are looking for SEO'd articles and link builders? (Warriors looking to hire section)

OR placing your own ad in the classifieds?

It's amazing the work that you can get just by answering a couple of threads here.

I have applied for several seo projects
Not good enough - submit 20-30 bids a day until you start getting work. The good ratings from those jobs will help you get more on elance.

Be honest in your bids - explain you are quoting "lower than usual" because you are new to elance and need to build up your reputation there. Then go on to detail your previous training/experience in the bid.

You can't tiptoe in and wait for someone to find you - you have to attack elance and make yourself heard. Get something on your portfolio even if it's only going through each and every section and adding what info you can. It takes time to do that but it's worth it.

Make sure it's clear in your bid why YOU are the person they should hire. There are a lot of SEO people out there bidding on jobs, why should they choose you? Find your unique selling position and promote that in your bids.
