Just got back from Phoenix (Arizona)...for non US Warrior alumni)

103 degrees...was still 102 at 6pm last night and the projected forecast was for 111 by Monday. How do you guy's over there live like that?...

When I was just older than my youngest, I did live there for 8 months in a motel with my family on the way to California.

But man the humidity now is off the hook. Cloud cover was keeping the heat in even after dark.

I'm not in the least disparaging the people of Phoenix or Arizona in general, just don't see the attraction for that kind of heat.

I've had bad back problems lately, but I had to arise and in an extreme case of irony...go to Phoenix...lol.

One interesting thing was that I hit one Border patrol checkpoint going in. then a produce? ( I know that's not the right word )...agriculture checkpoint coming back and two more Border patrol checkpoints inside Cali..

Reminded me of traveling in foreign countries, which I have done quite a bit.

The heat was just extreme and IMO getting worse with humidity.
Any of you people living there a long time think the weather has changed in the last 20/30 years?

Its probably been 40 years since I was there but I seem to remember very little humidity, though it was very hot during the day, and when the sun went down you could freeze your behind off if you slept outside in a sleeping bag, which is what we did.

        Hey Thom,

Not so much inversion tables, but I have been checking on the boots that you can hang upside down with.

Someone had mentioned that to me and I remembered even when I was young (was there really a time?..lol) and they made my back feel great.

By the way Thom I'm a water and trees and winter kind of guy too. Never really cared for the desert.
I just keep drinking my way into kids and getting stuck here...:p(it's a semi joke, for all you Puritans)

Jim after my day I needed a good laugh, thanks.
I'm thinking the boots are pretty much the same idea.
Waterotter, I know has used one of them, either the table or the boots, and swears by them. My x boss got the table and was amazed that 10 years of back pain went away.
For the first time in over 30 years my back normally feels great. I don't know why other then I did a lot of walking. Looking at the price of the tables I'm real temped to get one anyways though.

Now that you mention it Thom I think I remember Jody saying something about them, at least the inversion theory. Going to PM her later...first I need to watch a movie and pay attention to old girl tonight re: TL's thread (ouch)

By simple logic 'you' might think that reversing the effects of gravity would would help actually reverse the effects of gravity. Ok I'm simple...lol.

Thom, do you ever stop and think that as you get older your body is starting to get even? ( By the way love your sig...gettin old ain't for sissies...)

By that I mean "you remember when you did this...kapow...how about this..kabam?" "Thought you were a tough guy huh?.. kasplam...:p" ( How do you like the Batman references...lol..?)

It seems, to me anyway that every stupid thing I have ever done is now coming back to haunt...so to speak.

I thought you where warned about that old girl thing
Jim practically every ache and pain I've gotten late in life, I can tell you how old I was and what I did to cause it. I've been shot, stabbed, fallen out of trees, almost lost a leg in a motorcycle accident, fell down on my Indian at around 100mph and slide over 100 yds down the road on my back after tumbling twice, not to mention in my 20's I did enough dangerous drugs to kill half the country.
But I do think I've been blessed with a remarkable ability to heal and now a days I feel better then ever. Finding out in May that my heart and lungs where strong really cemented that feeling for me.

The growing old ain't for sissy's came from one of the guys I ride with.
I was telling him about my Pericardial effusion incident and that was his reply

                  Not bad at all.
I had a dent in the tank and the brake pedal got turned around.
I was back riding it the next day
I did have a leather jacket on so after the tumbles the sliding on my back was fun

Well, that's a relief, as long as nothing bad happened to the Indian.

Come to think of it...did you mention once you sold that bike?
If so..I feel like doing that old littering commercial, where all these hood/biker types are in a lineup, and one Mr Rogers type guy...when they find out he didn't recycle or littered, they all go..

                    You did WHAAAT?

May have been a Cali commercial...don't know.

I should talk, I had a 1969 Roadrunner with the 383..worth some good dollars today.
Bought it for 600 bucks, loved it and to this day I have no idea what happened to that car. It's the only one I've had that I can't remember.
So when we get together I guess we can compare illicit substance use also....

Man I hope you don't have as many scars as me
That Indian was one tough mofo. I ended up dealing with blood poisoning in my right foot from where the blacktop put a hole in in behind my little two. I had to park the bike on a hill so I could roll it down and jump start it
Yes I did sell it with a blown motor for what I paid for it and one of my morning rituals to this day is to kick myself in the ass for doing it
As for the illicit stuff, I'm extremely glad they where in the old days. The only good to come out of them was having the first hand knowledge to pass on to the youngsters.
I have yet to meet anyone who I tell my meth experiences to that think it's something they want to try

The 69 runner was a real sweet car.

                        Amen to that Thom...
Wasn't meth with me, as a matter of fact I often say they should legalize everything else and use the money to stamp that crap out.
The lives that stuff has ruined is incredible.
I never really ran into it a lot until I came to San Dog, seems like almost 'everyone' has either done it and kicked or is still doing it.

I personally don't even want to be around anyone still using.

It sounds funny when I tell people where I grew up and I never did it, but it just wasn't that big in those day's in that part of the city.
It was still a biker thing then...there were a few around, but that outfit that is out of East Los was still fairly small time then...(I'm sure you know who I mean). Bikers were the least of my problems.
But believe me there was plenty of other stuff. And I agree allot of that stuff I'm glad is in the past.

It was just making it into 'big time' when I left, in fact one of the reasons I did leave was friends I grew up with getting into that crap...couldn't relate any more, no trust, paranoia, etc...
I have a special hatred for meth, because I feel it 'took' some old friends away. If that makes sense.

There is so much of it here that I have already started warning my ten year old about what it is, what it can do, and that it is one thing that there will be no playing and no second chances with.
I really hate having to do that this young, but with that stuff it's better to do a preemptive strike.

Plenty of before and after examples around here...

Ya know Kim, there was a guy many years ago I remember predicting that the Southwest would slowly turn tropical.

Of course 'everyone' laughed, but I still remember (although I can't remember his name).

Just from growing up in LA ( for teenage years anyway) and now living in San Diego, there is far more humidity in the summer than I remember from 'back then'.

It is changing consistently IMO, slowly every year.

The humidity wasn't anything like the Philippines or even back east, but still noticeable if your paying attention.

I couldn't believe how hot it stayed up until midnight even. And your right, true desert weather, you fry in the day and 'freeze' at night.

Any of you people living there a long time think the weather has changed in the last 20/30 years?
People used to move to the desert SW to get away from humidity and allergies...So they built swimming pools and planted flowers to the point where cities like Las Vegas and Phoenix have as much pollen as anywhere and the pools are increasing the humidity.

yea Tbird that's pretty extreme stuff over there.
I spent some time in the Middle East.

I don't know which was more uncomfortable that extreme dry heat or the extreme humidity at certain times of the year in the Philippines and other tropic places in the Far East and south China Sea.

I'll tell you one thing, it will be a while before I complain about a little heat in San Diego though...:p
