External HDD with RAID (2TB or larger)...

does anyone use one, if so, is the HDD cool, and quiet?

Any problems with it, like dismounts when idle? or what have you?

My hard drives are filling up fast with all these videos Im doing.

Cheers for your time.

One little bit of advice. There are several types of raid. And the usable space may only be a fraction of the total.

I know what Raid Does Steve.

So anyone here with a good external HDD that dno't pack up after a few months or has trouble mounting after some time, which is quiet, and don't get too hot?

My last "MyBook" 1TB drive from western digital got messed up due to over heating and was real loud too, I ended up losing over 10 years worth of data and was quoted $32,000.00 to get it fixed.

i really would look at getting a Buffalo box, takes two drives

I have had one for 3 years and just keep putting bigger drives in

You can use the second drive as a standalone drive or a back up

Had it three years, not a spot of bother with the box or drives there in

used a variety of hard drives, no problem except when i dropped one, like smoking, it is harmful to their health

Well, WE DON'T! So WHAT are you looking for? Striping? MIrroring? Parity?

You see, the suggestion with 2 drives CAN'T provide parity!

OK, I didn't see it. You asked for "RAID". That is like asking for a vehicle. If you had asked for a vehicle, I might wonder if it is a car, truck, or helicopter. And if a car, what tye of car?

So you asked for RAID, and I wondered to mirror, stripe, or have parity. NOW, with oncewerewarriors suggestion, you CAN'T have parity. THAT requires at least 3 drives! But you CAN stripe or mirror. Striping would allow you to go twice as fast, but no backup. Mirroring would backup, but at the same speed, and cut the space in half so 2TB in drives means 1TB of storage. Now PARITY gives you a kind of backup with more speed, but DOES take more drives.
