STUPIDITY and HORROR!

OK, I once went to a shop, and a guy wanted to talk to ME about safety. His hands were almost gone. CRAZY. I have ALWAYS been careful, Power saws are big enough that a minor slip can cause a SEVERE injury. With the right blade, in less than a second, they could cut an arm off. They go through fingers like BUTTER!

With me, I always kept the blade away from my body, and the hand controlling the saw, using the handle. I always mad sure the blade cover retracted properly, etc... On table saws, a piece of scrap wood guiding the front, and my hand on back until I wasn't able to, or a foot and a half or so from the blade, and then scrap THERE!

I had a cast taken off once. The blade was SMALL, and would take a while to get to the bone. The device was MADE for control. It TIOCKLED, and didn't even SCRATCH ME! Still, it may have been a vibrating saw. They are often used, and won't cut through soft tissue, but DO go through plaster.

OK, what does an anxious careless idiot do to remove a cast?

Man uses circular saw to remove son's cast - Florida Wires - MiamiHerald.com

And it was a TEN inch saw!?!?!? MINE was only like 7"! Of course, I would NEVER have used it on a cast!

I just hope they recovered something of the boys capabilty. The article doesn't make it clear HOW bad it is, only that it is RIDICULOUSLY bad. GOD! If it were me, and I had like NO choice, like on a deserted island and he needed use, etc.. I might use water, or a glass cutter to score, etc.. It may take a lot longer, but the kid wouldn't be hurt. And, at least with insurance, this is cheap. he could probably take care of it at 3am in the morning on a sunday!

Yeah, I was apprehensive ALSO! I was about 9yo, and it was my FIRST cast. But I felt better when I saw the saw. I felt better whn he started cutting. and I was happy when the cast was cut enough that he could stop using the saw. IMAGINE if it were a POWERSAW! I wouldn't even trust one with a HANDSAW!
