hey everyone,
this is my first post here at WF, I Hope im welcome to your friendly community.
Actually I Wrote this topic because Im really sick of all the piracy going on on our products, especially ebooks. Myself as an ex-ebook writer I used to find copies of every ebook I wrote on warez websites and other forums ! and thats really sick, those are thousands of dollars of waste ! Thats why I decided to code a new utilily which is revolutionary and will solve ebook piracy problems for good !
I just wanted some feedback from you guys.
This utility actually works on 2 sides, My online server in which encryption goes and the client which currently tries to read an ebook. I Will not go into the details, I just wanted to include a features which converts the pdf to images so each page is an image and I wanted to know if this was okay with other publishers because I Want to make this program suitable for every ebook writer !
All suggestions are welcomed, you can request any feature you like and see will stop this piracy.
Thanks in advance

GOOD LUCK! As one of many THOUSANDS that have collectively spent perhaps BILLIONS of USD, I looked at it for like 20+ years! I did O/S modification, O/S eradication, and full encrypted/compiled client with a server based license server.

You know what happened? Almost EVERYONE in the industry GAVE UP! Those that DIDN'T, gave up on MOST things!

And THAT is why you decided to cheat all the honest customers instead!

Didn't you just do so? If you want to sell the server to others, how will you protect IT? If you plan to use YOUR server, how will you price the use, and how will you manage the server farm? ALSO, what if they are offline?0

Pretty much IMPOSSIBLE, unless you want to detroy things like contrast control, and aspect ratio. You will LITERALLY take the worst parts. The files will be larger also. WHO CARES about the writer? You want to prevent theft? EASY! Just send everyone an empty file. NOPE, it DOESN'T matter what the writers think. THEY don't decide whether to buy their books, etc... You want BUYERS opinions! If they ask for something meaningful, like portability or aspect ratio compatibility, the writers may LOSE A SALE every time you don;t listen.

Now if you could create a client that runs on ANDROID, JAVA, M/S WINDOWS, WINDOWS X, etc... and it would have the ablity to do what PDF does, convert PDF data to its data, which is encrypted and has a type of license key, etc... You would have a product that nearly everyone on this board would buy, customers would be happy, etc... Adobe would be angry, but wouldn't be able to do much if you vary the "look and feel". But it is a LOT to do.

Thanks for your great thoughts, actually you are right about the buyer / customer thing, but I didn't get ur first quote in which you talked about cheating.
Anyway when you were talking about servers, a big project such this one requires more than one servers, so if one goes offline the program auto switches to the second server, I highly doubt all 4 servers would go offline all together at the same time lol. I was also thinking about creating some new file extension which would be close to PDF But will have way more security. Anyway I Have many ideas in mind, your reply was very helpful thanks for it. A beta version will be released soon, I'll be glad if you review it when released ! Thanks !

Im sorry about that :/ Actually its really a pain to see this, for dvd's it is impossible to stop piracy coz u release the full dvd and It can be copied , even if you release it only online, people can use trackers to get to your video source and therefore sweep it. Good luck !

An Image inside a picture reader with photo hiding feature when screenshot is detected would do the job, but I guess a more complex system is needed, im thinking about several text encryptions.

OK, so you DID give details earlier! Yeah, BAD IDEA! When I said cheat before, I meant with regard to using the content in the LEGAL AND EXPECTED ways they wanted, such as on an ebook, or on a plane.

You will NOT ONLY deny it on an ebook, but EVEN on a plane. You aren't talking about a product, but a "service". BAD IDEA!

Text encryptions won't work, and neither will disabling screenshot. But, if you REALLY thought that, why not disable cut and paste. USUALLY people do that wrong, at least I HOPE it is THEM, and cut and paste works NOWHERE! I HATE going to a website that does that WITHOUT WARNING, and OTHER things break down. I may have 50 websites open at once. It takes a while to find the culprit.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Nope actually the main utility generates small programs which contains the images and those are highly secure in term of licensing. It is a desktop solution so no worries about getting crawled.

Your program sounds like a worse and worse idea as you go along. People HAVE done that sort of stuff before. And it would be interesting to see how post xp systems handle it!

You're right to a fair degree, but changing to to graphics DOES prevent normal text cut and paste functions. Of course there ARE other ways to do that same thing. But that aspect ration problem was ALWAYS a problem. People tended to be OK with it because the work around was simple, it wasn't THAT annoying, and there WERE standards. But NOW? EBOOK READERS(IRONICALLY), PHONES, NETBOOKS, various other devices. PDF is bad enough! But at least there is SOME controlling line breaks, and font sizes, etc... And having graphics makes the files LARGER.

Of course, like you said, it can be defeated ANYWAY! OH YEAH, what about the blind? BYE BYE AUDIO READERS!
