Craigslist ad sums up America !?

Let me preface by saying I've never posted anything on this section or any other
section of Craigslist but I'm feeling very compelled to do so right
now.

I just got back from a trip to Wegmans and am in awe at the current
state/behaivor/mindset of "people". As I'm walking in, I go to grab a cart and
notice three guys (late teens/early 20's) all standing together but on their
cell phones texting and blocking the majortiy of carts. So I sidestep them and
grab a cart from the sole lane they weren't blocking. I get my cart and proceed
but I can't help but notice the people lined up to return bottles/cans. I'm not
knocking them (I'm pro-recycle) but it looked like they literally crawled out of
a dumpster and needed the deposit money to get through the night. I asked myself
"why don't they just stop consuming this sugarwater and use the money for a
necessity?" Then I realized Coke and Pepsi are a necessity for the majority of
people in this country. I should also point out that each one was overweight (if
not obese).

I get inside and start doing some shopping. The procuce
section was the most "normal". I grabbed some apples, a few bananas, and some
strawberries since it's that time of year. As I left the produce section, it
started getting depressing. I see a kid poking his finger through a package of
ground beef and laughing his cute little head off. I don't blame the kid (I did
that once too when I was his age but my mother grabbed my hand and basically let
me know if it ever happened again, I'd lose my hand). However, I DO blame his
mother for not caring the least about her son destroying multiple packs of meat.
She was actually entertained by his behaivor. So I grabbed some chicken breast
and continued on. As I'm passing the "organic food" section, I hear two guys
laughing hysterically so I walk back a few steps to see if George Carlin had
risen from the dead doing one of his stand-up acts. Nope...wasn't him. The two
guys were "tickling" each other. In laymans terms, they were a couple of gay
guys. I'm not anti-gay, but it was just weird watching them be so flamoyant in
public. Being "out" seems to be the "in" these days.

I get to the cereal
isle and see a guy pushing around one of those carts that resembles a car for
the kids to sit in. His gf/wife was about 10 feet away yelling out loudly which
cereal he wanted. He had his back turned to her pushing the cart the opposite
direction with the two kids screaming their heads off as he's looking at his
cell phone. I stop at this point waiting for him to pass me but he's in the
middle of the isle and knocks into my cart. One of the kids then throws a canned
fruit. The guy stops looking at his phone and gives me this annoyed look as if
it's my fault im in his lane. A fuse started to light up inside me. As he starts
to move his cart back to the right side of the lane, I throw my shoulder into
him and knock him off balance. He says "hey" but in a very non-threatening way,
so I glace back and he looks away. His overweight gf didn't seem too pleased
with me. I grabbed some Wegmans brand cereal with almonds (it's really
good).

On to the next isle to get some pasta and sauce. I see a mom that
resembles my math teacher in high school. Is it her? Can't be...nope, wasn't her
but I instantly smile since I was very fond of my math teacher. She smiles back.
Her daughter was next to her..I'd say she was 15 or 16. Lip peirced, glazed
eyes, and of course TEXTING. The whole time, this girl is rolling her eyes and
being dramatic. About what? Who knows. Most likely something to do with a text.
I glance at her and she glances back at me really quickly and then looks back at
her cell phone. For that split second when I was able to see her eyes, I felt a
weight on my shoulders. This girl, along with the majority of people in the
store, had severe mental issues.

What happened to these people? Is it the
fluoridated tap water? The anti-depression medications? The fast food consumed
on a daily basis? The chemicals in diet sodas and chewing gum? The constant need
for people to feel "connected" by using a cell phone but really aren't connected
to anything? Movies? Music? Reality televison? Lately, the majority of people I
see look dead inside. Battered...beaten...tormented. SLAVES. I then ask myself,
"What will these people do when civil unrest and social breakdowns occur in the
not so distant future? It's going to be an ugly sight. Well, thank you for
reading my thoughts (for anyone that made it to the end). Just the ramblings of
a 30 year old male who's losing hope on "people".
I'm Living in London UK and have to say, it's NOT just in America.
What's happening to our countries and cultures ?
Remember the day's of good manners and well behaved kids ?

Lol, Pepsi didn't create these fat people.

I've been hooked on Pepsi since about 1980, I'm 6'1" & weigh 180 pounds (never drink that diet crap).

Don't get me wrong I love the internet, I do however think that the internet & cell phones are the root of all evil in todays kids.

To much information is not a good thing, one kid picks up a bad habit & it goes viral via text + internet.

When I was a kid in the 70's & 80's we didn't know what was going on outside of our own towns, & didn't care. Hell, we were kids!

Todays kids are being pumped full of hate, from information overload.

Those 50,000 friends on Facebook, will never show up at your birthday party, lol. Hows that for being social?

When I was a kid, being social was all the kids in the neighborhood going down to the school & playing hoops or baseball almost every single day during the summer, or anytime we had a chance.

When a major hurricane came through our neighborhood a few years ago, power was knocked out for almost 10 days.

It was weird. Normally, you can drive through the subdivision and MAYBE see one person out getting a newspaper or walking the dog.

But about three days into the power outtage, I had a knock at the door. It was an invitation from a couple that lived two houses down that I hadn't met in the 9 months I had been there.

They asked if I'd like to join them in their front yard with a few other neighbors for a picnic. I agreed, and could not believe the number of kids that were out on bicycles and skateboards... some were actually playing with a frisbee on the street. I can't remember a time that I saw so much neighborly activity.

That went on almost daily until the power was restored several days later.

I can't say when it was that I ever saw any of those people again, other than the occasional drive by and wave.

It's usually too damned hot to go out. Or too cold. Or there's a good movie on. Or I'm on Warriorforum. Or I'd rather be napping.

    What have we become?

    sandman123,

I THINK, and I HOPE that that was a MOSAIC! A collection of VARIOUS experiences put together to APPEAR to be much worse. The TRUTH as I see it? And this is a limited view of some parts of America. Some people DO text, and call. Happily, it isn't THAT bad. Most states now have LAWS against it in cars, etc... People in general are RUDE! YEAH, they will block you, take FOREVER, and walk right towards you. I walk down an aisle and, almost without thinking, anticipate obstacles and avoid them. The RESULT? There may be a wide empty aisle with NOBODY in it. I might be walking down the MIDDLE, and NEVER walk a straight line! WHY? Because people, even one, may come into the lane and act like a steve seeking missile! There ARE people that go around blocks, into dumpsters, etc... and take cans. NOT to recycle, but to get money for it. EVEN adults are unsanitary. Even in RESTAURANTS! And they make alot of noise about brats today. BULL!!!!!! The only ones that REALLY care are those that wouldn't do it, and nobody ever listened to THEM! I know, because I am one. I was bullied by kids DECADES ago. And bullies never disappear, they just change their methods.

Frankly, if I were as stubborn as when I was a kid, I might have died LONG ago from starvation.

I was in Massachusetts, heard that it was easy to become a health inspector, and toyed with the idea of being one just so I could shut every place down.

Ragz, the same thing happened with me a few times.

The sick part, is that its all done FOR THE PURPOSE of putting us into a zombie state - hear me out:

Bisphenol A in all the soda and soup cans, genetically modified GMO corn based high fructose corn syrup in all candies, breads, juices, etc, which is manufactured to be laced with mercury. Aspartame, outlawed in many countries, yet Donald Rumsfield's drug company fluffed the FDA.. the same Donald Rumsfield who gave the north koreans nuclear power.. Fluoride in the water, continuous war, greater good, etc etc...

Alot of people don't like Alex Jones, but remember, hes just the messenger...

Sounds like everyday life where I just moved from. What is a real indication for me that people are just zoned is the amount of them that just walk out into streets with moving traffic without watching where they are going. They remind me of the cow herds I run across on the 4 wheel paths. They get into the road and just stare at you like they don't know what you are (both, cows and people). Now that people are walking and talking on cell phones and texting they just keep walking without even noticing that traffic had to stop for them because they are in the road. In my view, there should be absolutely no prosecution of anyone who hits someone who walks out into a road with moving traffic. When people become that stupid and subconscious that they will walk in front of a moving vehicle, they no longer deserve protection.

That sounds like going into Wal Mart when it's busy here in the U.S. Bad kids, stuck up adults, and adults just wanting to get away from it all. . . I think the problem all stems from bad parenting rather than more internet and texting and videos on the net. Those are partially to blame, but letting your kids do nothing but that is going to happen unless a parent controls it. Kids will continue to do whatever they want unless disciplined. Now everyone wants to be the perfect parent and friend their kids from the start. Let's give them a trophy just for showing up, let's make sure they look they're a padded knight ready for battle before they go skate or bike, let's make sure that we childproof everything and not let them eat dirt and disinfect everything. Parents now need to take a lesson from my parents from the 80's; probably the last time there was letting kids be free but also making sure that discipline was doled out. Now no one wants to spank their kids on the butt when younger, especially in public out of fear, nor do they want to scold their kids for unacceptable behavior. If the kid is tearing stuff up, give them a reason not to on their behind. That, I'm sorry to say to some people, is not abuse. You're not beating their face or breaking bones or being overly harsh. I got worse than just a hand spanking. I used to get the belt and I turned out fine. I'm not condoning belt, but at least a hand spanking when they're a child to keep them in line. Timeouts and negative reinforcement don't always work. We've become too progressive I fear, intentionally vilifying and forgetting what has worked in the past. I'm 32 and I completely agree with just about everything you stated in your rhetoric. Let's hope we return to some of the better values before society implodes on itself.
