How Many Years Would It Take to Make $20,000 a year from Internet Marketing Alone?

Hi guys,

I would just like to know how many years it would take for an average Internet Market to earn an income of $20k in a year?

I'm asking because I have a photocopy service business, and it's not really making a lot of money due to high overhead and really strong competition. I'm estimating about 4 years before I can earn an accumulated $20k of profit

I was thinking of closing and just switching to Internet Marketing.

Would you warriors have any thoughts on this?

Maybe some advice would help, I'm just totally lost.

If you think outside the box you might be able to make $20k/month. Of course that requires lots of hard work and knowledge about what you are doing, but it certainly is achievable. There are so many things to do that you should maybe pick one area of IM you will focus on like affiliate marketing. After that it's studying, studying and studying (it never ends). You have to practice your skills and test your knowledge in the real life situations to become successful.

If you aim to be average you will be average. To make lots of money you have to aim high but remember that it's always riskier when the bets are high.

How fast you get to the point of making $20K per year is totally up to you. Yes it can be done within your first year. The problem with most new people in IM is their failure to go with just one proven method and be consistent with it. They give up, move on to the next shiney object etc. etc. etc.

My advice, join the War Room. Take a look around, ask questions, find a method you are comfortable with, and then take action daily. The results will come.

I heard the War Room will overload you will a lot of awesome ideas. It might overwhelm me as I'm already overwhelmed with making money in affiliate marketing, stock market, real estate, blogging, and etc.

It is true though that at the sight of a few obstacles, I give up too easily. I'm afraid to lose a lot of time and gain nothing. That's really what I fear so I immediately change courses.

Maybe you can give me some advice on how to start.

I owe you my thanks. But can you still make that much now that it's already 2011 starting with nothing? If so, would you have any advice where to start in Affiliate Marketing, because my mind is so overloaded right now with information that I don't have any idea where to start. I still have so many ebooks to read.

I actually joined Maverick Money Makers before but I didn't make any money from the author's ideas because I had to spend the money first from PPC. I was also quite disappointed that the author was telling us to sell Maverick Money Makers membership. It's like buying a membership to sell the same membership.

I also lost money from Bulk Email Marketing that promised to send 100,000 emails to reliable leads. Unfortunately only 10,000 people read the email; only 1,000 of those who read clicked the affiliate; 0 people bought the product.

Any clues where I went wrong or how I should start? I've been asking in many forums before about Affiliate Marketing, but most of the people are telling me that you could only make money if you started in the year 2000 to 2005. Is that true?

I never had an idea that Warrior Forum existed, and I'm really quite glad that people here are really helping out.

    hi siocowiz,

with the right info or the right mentor to teach you it could be done in no time. 1st month, second month, 3rd, it's up to you and what paths you choose to take in marketing. Just don't get overloaded trying to do everything there is to do, pick something, get good at it, make money with it, then learn something else. Also don't get caught up too much in things that change overnight unless you want to be constantly course correcting instead of making money. Do something that is evergreen and will be more or less the same today as it will be tomorrow, true marketing.

The average internet marketer will never earn an income of $20k in a year: the turnover-rate of "people trying out internet marketing" is absolutely enormous.

You can make money with affiliate marketing, plenty of people are doing it, but your income is still dependent on someone else's program. My advice is to learn something, get good at it, and create a product teaching what you learned. Creating your own products will allow you to control your income much better and build a following of subscribers and fans that will buy repeatedly. You can do much more over the long term when the products you are selling are your own.

I understand completely. I was also thinking of making my own products. But I first wanted to get my first sale in Affiliate Marketing selling another person's product before I start my own venture. Apparently, I find it really hard. I'm actually started a blog already, and I've been posting my own articles before I plug-in products that I want to push. I was just thinking if there is another way to do it.

Let me suggest that you NOT shut down your business and start Internet Marketing!

Why don't you build an IM business in addition to your existing business. When the time is right, (i.e. the IM money is coming in) you still have the option to close up shop.

I would hate to see you go hungry.

Well... the business isn't really doing well. Some months I have negative income, and most months I only make $200. It's been causing a lot of problems, and 3 businesses in the same area as mine already closed within the year due to low profits. I can't close down yet since I'm tied to contract, which ends in 6 months.

I made a mistake in not planning my business well from the start. But it's already I'm charging it to experience. I'm only 23 years old, I know that there is still a long way to go.

I started out in affiliate marketing too, and found it difficult as well. I find creating and marketing my own stuff a lot easier and more rewarding and I can get affiliates to sell it for me too

Hi Les, may I know what product you sold? I'm afraid to make my own product because it might be common among the rest. Also, I'm no expert yet since I'm just starting out, so I don't have any credibility. How would I market the product if that's the case?

I sold a variety of affiliate stuff, relationship products, different ebooks, internet marketing stuff. There's one thing about marketing, if you are affiliate marketing you will definitely be common among the rest unless you find ways to be different, but with your own products you will always be unique and in control. Don't worry too much about not knowing enough, you only have to learn one thing well to teach it and i'd be willing to bet you know more than you think, most people do. Your credibility will come if the product is good, you really only need to know what you are teaching well, no matter how small it is at first.

Hey Les, maybe I can add you on Facebook so you can mentor me how to do it. Would that be alright with you?

I am so grateful that someone is finally willing to help.

You can make that in a month, if not a week with IM. 20k a year is nothing for IM. Not going to tell you about ideas and such, just letting you know that 20k a year is NOTHING.

I'm assuming you earn 10-20k a month? I just have no clue how to do that right now yet

Depends on how dedicated you can focus on one thing at a time, how much time you can put in and your budget.

Internet marketing does cost money just like any business a lot less but there's still money needed.

If your going down the affiliate marketing route.

    Learn:

Niche research (including how to spot which niches buy) -> product research -> Keyword research -> competition research (recommend Market Samurai) -Basic copywriting -> how to build and host a simple wordpress self hosted site -> internal seo research -> Newsletter research (how to build one ect)-> build yoursite (make it at least 15 pages) -> external seo research (backlinks - articles, blog commenting, press releases) - testing (looking at your tracking account).

Each step is important, it seems like a lot but there's quite a bit of cross over between the steps.

With that your need at least $10 for a domain, $54 for hosting, $15 a month fo Aweber (an autoresponder) and you can try Market Samurai for free. Plus around $50 to kick start your backlinking.

That also presuming that you make your website yourself.

Check out share a sale, clickbank and paydotcom.com for programs to promote!

    Good-luck!

    Sam

There is no answer for this question because everybody is different.

I started in 2003. By 2005, I had only made $12,000 that year. Yeah, I was
as dumb as a stump. Didn't have a clue. I didn't have my first breakthrough
      year until 2006.

Some people make it big literally overnight.

Depends on too many factors to get into here which is why your question
      can't be answered for YOU.

How long will it take YOU?

      Not a clue.

I would suggest that if you are the type of person who is afraid to commit to anything for fear of not being successful and having wasted your time as you said, any type of entrepreneurship, including Internet Marketing, is not for you.

I'm not saying this to be mean - but simply to save you the frustration and disapointment you are likely to experience by going into IM.

The fact is that probably only 5% of people ever become really, truly successful at it (meaning long term (5 years +) independence accomplished from IM).

There are some people who are not cut out for self employment, and that's nothing at all to be ashamed of. If your the type of person who is better suited to work for someone else and you do your best every day, you have more to be proud of than the "successful" internet marketer who puts out crappy products.

Anyway good luck to you regardless of what you decide to do.

Answer to thread title: 6 months is a good goal. Break it down, $20,000 =

    200 $100 SALES - 400 $50.00 SALES - 10 $2,000 SALES -

Figure out a product, that meets the standards of your goal - Could be 2 $10,000 sales, or even one $20,000 sale.

In six months you could easily make 800 $25.00 sales... How? Its all around you... you are swimming in it. Look at the forrest. Look beyond the trees.

Break it down man. You got this.
