One of my friends from Mexico was killed yesterday.

Scary. Terrifying. And most importantly sad. I am sorry about your loss. I have family near the border of Mexico and Texas. I fear for their lives every time they come to visit and tell a story about how bad it is there... I can't imagine how bad it is in the actual country.

Btw Patrician - Please understand I am not trying to pick a fight with you, or even change your mind on the these issues.

It's obvious that you care, which is more then can be said for most people. I respect that. We all arrive at our opinions based upon our unique life's journey, and very little is likely to change them.

I also do not want to hijack this thread with our disagreement.

I think we can both agree that flowbee's friend was murdered by vicious animals (I can't bring myself to call them human beings), and those animals are in Mexico.

Sadly now the only thing any of us can do is pray for flowbee's friend, as well as her friends, family and community....and maybe say a prayer for all of Mexico because they could use it.

Crimes happen every where.. I am very sorry about your friend but we all have to keep moving on, live our lives as best we can, stay out of trouble and lets not make this a crime of Mexico against America... peace to everyone ^^

For us it's pretty much unthinkable that they would show the pictures.

But what I believe has happened, and I could be wrong, but this is my opinion, is that the killings there have become so awful, so out of control that the media showed some pictures in some instances trying to get some shock value.

Trying to get people to say "OMG, what is becoming of us" and hoping it would have an impact.

Instead the violence, both on the part of the government and the cartels, has only continued to escalate, but now the genie is out of the bottle so to speak. Having shown the horrible images a few times before now it must be shown every time, or there is no reaction what so ever.

Currently you can get away with murder in parts of Mexico. In Juarez, for example, not even 1 in 500 homocides get's solved.

But still the original point that I made is true. If you stay out of the drug affected area's, and stay away from drugs yourself, Mexico is not very dangerous. (I'm speaking from the point of view of a tourist visiting. If you are a Mexican a number of things can happen. You could see something you shouldn't have, one of your relatives could be involved in the drug or human smuggling business and someone has a vendetta with them etc..any number of issues).

Still though I go visit my family in Mexicali a few times a year, grandmother and grandfather, gramma in her mid 80's, grampa in his 90's, both live there, as well as couins, aunt's, uncles etc. It's a very safe city - one of the most safe in all of Latin America.

It would be nice to keep this thread on track and not political. It would be a shame if it was deleted or just turned into a bunch of back and forth bs.

It was nice arguing with you, you are a fine person, 100%. It is nice to 'debate' and even to disagree without getting nasty about it or 'shooting the messenger' and to come out of it as friends.

Oh God I hope the girls parents did not see those pictures. With any hope, perhaps an authority can assure them the girls died rapidly and the rest transpired later.

Eduardo - I am so sorry. I can't imagine your devastation. My sister had a neighbor family that went for a vacation in Mexico and were never seen or heard from again. Perhaps something good can come from this unspeakable incident. Maybe it will save someone else's life. Mexico is just plain becoming too dangerous to travel in. Maybe some others will take this as a warning and stay away. Perhaps they need to see the reality to understand.

I know that isn't much help for you now. I wish I knew of a way to help - but I don't. The best I can do is offer my condolences to you and share some hope that you will sleep well again soon.

We are not safe anywhere we are... suspicious murderers must be sentenced to death..they worth it!killing innocent people and to think are ladies, no strength to fight against them?Have mercy on the victims..lets hope and pray they rest in peace..

That is horrific news, it's extremely sad that the press don't think about the families and relatives to show such things

Sad to hear that and they put it in the papers, I live in Thailand and they show pretty bad things in the papers. A mini van crashed here not so long ago on the motorway and people come out of it and were tangled in the bridge above and they were in the papers was gross.

Feel very very sorry for your lost ...........and deeply upset that one human can do this kind of things to another.......unfortunately this kind of things happens all over the world.
You must think that your friends are in a better place now, where pain is no more, suffer is no more only peace and tranquility.
