Hi all,

I am reaching out here...does anyone here know of or have a used or refurbished Dell 24" LCD Monitor they want to sell/get rid of.

Ideal model is DELL ULTRASHARP 2408WFP. The specificity has to do with the type of panels it uses. Certain models use 6 bit with 2 bit dithering, and that model has true 8-bit which is rock solid.

My budget is only like $200, but I am currently dealing with a crappy 17" CRT at home, and I build websites and design for a living so you can understand this doesn't work out all that well in 2008.

With my wife and I always trying to pay down debt and medical bills, I never spend money on myself or my stuff and definitely can't afford a new monitor.

This is specifically the type of monitor I am after:

Yeah. Mine went out the other day now I'm using a crt which was meant for my other computer.
Check craigslist, local classifieds and eBay like I am. Something is bound to come available soon.
    I'm a web a graphics designer too but I really don't need a 24 incher.
One of my friends and clients has a 32" and that is just stupid. I shouldn't have to move my head to view the internet.

I have a 24" just like the link I posted here at work..and it is FUGGIN sweet. That is why I need one just like it.

Problem with the 22" monitors, etc... they all use a 6 bit panel with 2 bits dithering...so you get ghosting, etc...

The Dell Ultrasharps are nice, plus play HD really nice.

Heads up to you. You've really done your homework. I may have to learn this from you. I never really knew about monitors but I never liked the HD monitors for they stretch everything out.

If you setup the resolution properly, they shouldn't stretch anything. You'll just get more screen real estate.

I often check the Dell outlet - the stuff moves very fast and don't know how it is with monitors there but they have some great deals.

I have a 22" and paid $250 new for it ($300 with a $50 rebate). Funny your mention of ghosting. My parterner also bought the same monitor, but I had ghosting and he didn't. After a few days, I apparently changed some setting somewhere and suddenly the ghosting was gone. It's crystal clear and has made me significantly more productive.

I bought a Dell 22" from Best Buy last year around Christmas and had to return it.

I just couldn't look at the screen for much more then a few minutes. Between my CRT, which is over 10 years old and still "decent" from a pixel standpoint, and the 24" at work...the 22" just seemed "OFF". I found out it has to do with the cheaper panels they put in them to try and keep them competitive with the more expensive monitors, but for someone who lives in "Pixel land", I could instantly tell a difference between the screen quality of the 22" and the 24" I have.

I'm with Kay on this one. I've bought a bunch of stuff through
Dell outlet. I've always been pretty happy with them.

You might find going with dual 22' monitors (or even 19"s) is a
greater boost to productivity. I don't think I could go back to
a single monitor. Video cards are reasonable on Ebay.

Yea, been there done that. I was hoping I would cross paths with someone one day who is on there way of getting rid of their 24" monitor and would do so cheaply.

The prices on the outlet are still high.
