Check your computer Date and Time??? ~Virus?~???

Hi Warriors,
Three people told me today that their system date and time were showing
Jan 5 2005 and also approx 1 hour and 55 minutes a head/fast.

I didn't think anything about it other than that was strange until a few
minutes ago when I happened to hover over my time icon and noticed the
time was off by 1 hour and 55 minutes??? I then I checked the date and it
was Jan 5 2005???

WTF???

Something doesn't smell right in cyberspace!

I and the others that I've spoken to do not converse to each other on the
Internet, We discussed this over lunch.

I'm running antivirus software as this post goes live.

    Run a full scan on all drives with malwarebytes.

  • Michael - over the next year there will be a lot of work on power grids going on. They are being tested and "refurbished" whatever the hell that means they are doing. If you start experiencing time problems, it might just be testing going on. I saw a warning that people's clocks might start spazzing. Frankly I don't understand the processes - or completely trust that answer - but thats what I read.

    • That is with clocks driven by the line frequency. I always thought that was dumb, but one person here talking about it being MECHANICAL clocks at least makes sense.

      In any event, computer clocks are DC with their own regulator. ALSO, the line problem would affect future tmes, not set time back.

    I am completely clueless on electrical science so concede to your expertise on this one.

    I just read something about clocks going blinky and why -- and that is the most I can say about it. When it comes to electric my knowledge runs to flick a switch and the light turns on, change a bulb if it burns out -- and never stick a fork in a plugged in toaster or pee on an electric fence.

    I know our grid is polluted and we get dirty electricity. That's my most technical knowledge of the stuff. So I'm guessing, and hoping, that is what is going on with the "refurbishing". If that's not right, I'd like to hear your comments about what exactly it is they are doing -- explain it in lay terms though -- When you get into your fields sometimes your terminology gets pretty thick.

    • The way I understand it, they have been regulating the frequency to make it precisely 60hz. Again, silly, since so much varies, but OH WELL! And the story is that they are trying to make sure they can forget all that, to cut costs. And least from what I can recall that I saw about it.

      As for dirty electricity, The voltage varies, and obviously there is noise because of cross talk, storms, etc... We may never find a way to make it real clean, so things like computers and the like have regulators and capacitors to make it stable and ride out gaps.
