Hardcore PAWN

I don't know if anyone outside the US can see this, but has anyone watched this?

I watched a show today and FOUR people so far today figured that they would get a certain amount and INSISTED that they would be paid that! I mean it wasn't "take it or leave it". It was "TAKE IT!!!!!!"!

I once heard how at least one company does this. The idea is to estimate what it would likely sell for, and offer no more than 30% of that price. So one guy had a small computer, WITHOUT even a CHARGER, and INSISTED that it be bought for $70! SO, based on the formula I gave you.....

Assuming it was equivalent to an eee1000 netbook, and worked

NEW cost ~$250
W&T - ~ $50
@30%= ~$60
Charger ~ $20(needed to test and sell)
PAYMENT ~ $40

So the guy should have gotten MAYBE $40 for an eee computer. But they couldn't determine WHAT it was or if it worked without the charger and the guy INSISTED on $70!

UNREAL!

For those that don't know, a pawn shop basically does secured loans. If you come back in time, you can buy the item back at a set price. If you don't, they try to sell it.

  • I love those shows, but I like Pawn Stars more than Hardcore Pawn. The customers and products coming in just seem a lot classier. All though Hardcore Pawn can get exciting with all of the riffraff coming in.

    • I've watched both and also prefer Pawn Stars. The problem with Hard Core is I don't find any of the 3 owners likeable at all and the show is really more about conflict than anything else...But with Pawn Stars, I like the characters. Chumley and the Old Man make me laugh and their stuff is a lot more interesting from a historical perspective.
  • I find anything intentionally done in front of a TV camera to be only 1/3 believable at most and that is being generous ; )

    • I do like Pawn Stars because they get some very interesting stuff in - and Chumley is hilarious.

    • Yeah, you never know. I agree with all the rest but the "TAKE IT!!!!" attitude was one I found INCREDIBLE! I mean you are going in with stuff that almost ALWAYS has a degraded value and THEY take the risk, and you DEMAND a certain price? Hey, you don't like it, you LEAVE!

They ALL tried to say this was the US so they could say anything anywhere and DEMAND! ONE said "In the US, you get what you demand". Gee, if that were true, HE could demand that she give it to him for NOTHING!

    • Well I'm in front of a camera and I'd have to say it's very real. Right now I'm talking about how good these 2 reality shows are. Now I am talking about how all reality shows are completely 100% true and completely ad lib. Everyone loves .....[Camera leaves the room]. Ok. Phew. Yes, very unbelievable indeed. But I still like Pawn Stars. (P.S. - I just realized that both show names sound like porn types "Porn Stars" and "Hardcore Porn." I wouldn't have realized this until talking about both side by side and reading them on the screen. Just call me slow or maybe it was unintentional by the writers.)
  • Both Pawn Stars and Hardcore Pawn are entertaining...I find Hardcore Pawn more realistic to what a real pawn shop deals with....never once do you see anyone in Pawn Stars need to be escorted out or swearing like a sailor....

Both seemed staged to me...like most of those reality shows....(all worked up on trutv is the worst for staging the scenes...lol) I was watching Hardcore Pawn and a lady came in with some crap jewelry, started agruing and stormed out....as she walked out the door, I noticed a mic clipped to her jeans in the back....producers placed it and staged the scene....proof was right there....made for good entertainment anyways & I still watch...lol

    • Pawn shops, and bail bonds companies USED to be considered SEEDY! NOW, not so much. SO, I could see how pawn shops may not be ALL that bad. Besides, if they DID film real scenes, they couldn't do it non stop.
  • I'm also a Pawn Stars fan. Love the history and the cast is great. Loved when the old man bought pizza for the staff except the guys who shot the cannon. And he threw the left overs in the trash right in front of them.

I get a kick out of Hardcore Porn when a customer gets out of line and Les waits until a couple of his bouncers show up then he gets all mouthy and tough.

I also like Storage Wars and all the locker auction and regular auction and flea market and picker shows. I worked in flea markets a life time ago and have experience with all these types of characters.

    • I saw that one...The Old Man said something like "I like firing cannons too", then got his revenge with the pizza.

Another one I liked is when Rick and The Old Man set up a race between Cory and Chumley in the parking lot. I thought I'd die laughing at Rick and The Old Man laughing at them....
  • A couple of American friends were laughing at me when we discussed this show. With an American accent you can hear the difference between pawn and porn - with a British accent they both sound the same.

Pawn stars is my favourite of the two. I like it when they take an old rusty piece of 1950s junk to the restorer and it comes back looking top notch.
  • Pawn Stars is my pick...I enjoy seeing the unique items people bring. Hopefully I'll get a chance to go there next time I'm in Vegas.

I think I read that Hardcore Pawn is staged for the most part.
