Hi everyone
I’ m Nhat, come from Viet Nam. I’m an Information Technology (IT) student in University school in Viet Nam. I like Networking and I hate Programming. I think if I learn Networking I will not learn anything about Programming. But now, on second year in University I see everything I learn all include Programing. I start boring and I think IT is not my forte.

During 2 years in Uni, I go to internet to find some work to cover for my learning. I now I found thing called Internet Marketing. In Viet Nam IM is not popular. I think this is my forte, because I can sit with computer hours and hours to find about IM while I can’t sit one hour for programing. Now I have some knowledge to make money from IM and I have, but not much.

Now I need some advise from all WF guys about DO YOU THINK GO TO IM AND DROPOUT THE SCHOOL IS GOOD WAY FOR ME ?

Please give me advise as much as possible. Thank all

Sure - you go ahead and drop out of school and if the Internet doesn't work for you for any reason, you figure out what will since you no longer have an education to fall back on.

Also - if you are so bored learning programming - did you ever think of going for something that actually interests you? Education is supposed to open up fields you are interested in, not just get you a job.

No no ! First you try to complete your studies ! I guess you can even continue your Technical side after your graduation and remember there is no value for your Technical skills without a Degree in your pocket.... and if you talk about earning you can do it till you have strength in your body !

It's better to fall back on your college grade when your not making it in IM. However, I think many of us would love to go full time IM (including me)!

    HeySal is right.

Why not do or continue learning IM in your vacant hours or during weekends, and still continue with your study?

Thank for you advice, but I think when internet is on, IM will continue exist.

Your English isn't very good at all just now. The money in IM is in the English speaking world so learning to speak perfect English should be your first goal.

If I were you I would switch over to business and minor in English at university.

While doing that at university you should be practicing your English as much as you can in your spare time and practicing writing articles until you can write at the level of an educated English speaking person. Note I said *educated* English speaking. So you want to speak better English than 70% of Americans/British.

Until you've done that I'm afraid you're going to struggle to make good money in IM. Even signing up to CPA networks will be hard. People judge you by how you write and if you're writing with broken English then people assume you're clueless.

I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do though. Whatever you do in the end just stay positive and believe in yourself and you'll get there. :-)

Why don't you continue your education anyway? If the education system in your country is anything like the one in mine, you've been studying stuff you never liked since the last 8 odd years. What's a few more years?

If you don't have the aptitude for it then, that's a different scenario. You don't have a choice in that case. But, if you CAN program, but you'd rather not, then why not do it just for the sake of gaining a new skill? A new skill wouldn't hurt you!

Plus, programming skills would help you in the IM world.

Welcome to Asia, Sal. lol. Here people take up careers just for the pay. In fact, the more "experienced" people advise you to take up blah.. blah.. just because there's huge scope in that field. Bull****!

Everyone with an average IQ, takes up science in high school. I too am doing engineering in IT, and I know one guy out of about 120 in our college (my year), who is passionate about coding like me. Most people in my class took up engineering, just because it pays well (although not well enough), or their mom and dad forced them to!

          That's the way it is!

Don't be so sure about that! No one guarantees that there will always be internet or that people will access it the same way they do today. I have a gut feeling that something dramatic will happen on/to the internet in the next 10-20 years. :p You never know!

Not so different here, Sumit. A lot of people just look at college as a means to well paying jobs. They hate school because they have been led to think that they have to have the big money even if they HATE what they are doing. Parents here can be pushy, too. Two suicides I knew in school were basically a result of parents pressuring the kids into fields they hated and were having a hard time in.

And = hoangminhnhat - I didn't say that the internet was going to stop - just that most don't make it in IM and that future regulation might make things even harder. You saw what Amazon is doing to affiliates in the US? Consider if something causes that type of problems for any - whether doing their own businesses or just being affiliates.

Even most athelets in the US know that they are putting their lives at risk if they don't get a back-up field they can go into if their sports careers don't make them the money they need to be able to set up to live without it while playing. It's just not good sense to put all your efforts into something that might not take hold in the first place, or might get crashed later unless you have a way to get a back-up career. You don't sound like a person with a business mentality - you sound like you want an easy way out.......you're dreaming. There isn't one, so stop expecting an easy way to go and do what you have to do to make sure you are going to be stable no matter what happens.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, so why bother asking us?

Lots of things in life are boring. An education is one of the few that reward you for being bored. Sal gave you excellent advice, but since you didn't like it, I'll try to give you some advice you will like...

Yes, drop out of college. The world has too many educated people in it already. All those smart people earn more money than average. You don't want to show off like that, do you?

Seriously, IM is wonderful ... if you make it. But I'd guess about 99% of those who try never make more than a few hundred dollars in their entire IM careers, if that. Do you really want to throw away a comparitively sure thing for a shot in the dark? You've already got a couple things working against you, as far as IM goes.

Why would you need to drop school? School is where you find all the fun and great memories that you would cherish forever.

Most IMers don't even spend the entire day marketing. They only spend like 2-3 hours per day doing it.

No - I think it would be a very bad idea.

For the reasons I've explained to other people who've asked ... here, here, here and in a few other threads, too.

But I do appreciate that how one feels about this question depends on one's initial attitudes to the purpose of education. If you look at it only in terms of earning ability, my perspective may be of limited interest to you.

I wish you well, whatever you decide.

Unless you make enough money in internet marketing NOW - what are you doing?

You aren't going into IM because you are excited about it - or have already done enough work online to know it's what you want to do.
You are bored - and looking for something more exciting. Hate to tell you - but there are many parts of working online that are boring but have to be done.

Deciding to "be an internet marketer" is nothing - making it profitable is the hard part.

Getting a degree of any kind is better than IM on average. Yes, some people make it big doing it, but the degree is definitely more important. You're more likely to make more money doing something with your degree than internet marketing, which can be like gambling at times.

Balance is what you should be focused on. You should never put all your eggs in one basket especially when it comes to IM since there are so many traps. I'd say that you should get your education and then in your spare time, do a little IM. People who go full-time in IM usually have a complete plan laid out as well as a team in order to generate a 5 to 6 figure income. Making that much money takes a lot more work then people think.

id say drop out of studying programming, you are clearly not turned on by it.

most people will spend years trying to make money online and it will never happen for them for various reasons, (main reason being they lack skills) especially if they are pursuing their dreams via the bizz opp merry go round.

Internet Marketing, is an extremely lucrative industry to be in, WHEN, you know what your doing, it can take a few years to learn the skills needed. for the most part, its not instant cash as all the dooshbag gooroos would have you believe if you just buy their product

you are clearly a very bright kid, study summin that really interests you, get a degree and a job that excites you, build your internet endeavours on the side.

get a degree in a part of internet marketing that you enjoy, you will be invaluable to a company if you have skills that can increase their profits

search google for jim yaghis, internet business academy, i hear its extremely good

    hope this helps
