Finally Bit The Bullet And Downloaded Open Office

After being a Microsoft user for decades, I finally downloaded Open Office as
everybody seems to be sending me XLSX and DOCX files and my version of
Microsoft can't read them.

Well, I can't say enough about Open Office. It's a breeze and so far, doesn't
have any of the bugs that Microsoft has.

I am a convert...FINALLY.

XLSX and DOCX are the MS-Formats starting at Office 2007.
You can upgrade your Office2003 to read those files.

Anyway, Open Office is a good solution for home use.
Here in my business we need MS-Word because of some automation things that our other software we need, uses.

      Welcome to the family Steve
I started using OpenOffice back in 05(?)
Now that I'm using Ubuntu as my O.S. I'm using LibreOffice which is an off shoot of Open Office. Looks and works just like O.O. but I think it's just for Linux operating systems.

Open Office has nearly always been my choice -
we need more open source...isn't that how it was supposed to be from the start?

Open Office is a good open source alternative. You could also try Libre Office which is a fork of Open Office and in my opinion much better.

In 2008 I received a brand new laptop, box and packing and everything.

I had no complaints until I tried using Microsoft Word. Apparently I had to "unlock" and register it and I must have thrown away the key I needed to do so.

This is how I met Open Office.

To this day, I still have open office and use it to make pdf stuff.

But you know what sweetened the deal? The calc. Free spreadsheets galore.

Now EVE Online, you will fear the power of spreadsheets! Har, har, har!

I'm also a big fan of Open Office - I started using it back when it was StarOffice. I liked it because at the time you could put clickable urls into your documents, and Microsoft wasn't doing that yet. I still use MSOffice once in a while, but you just can't beat Open Office's price.
