My heart goes out to him and his family.

I'm not entirely sure on this, but I heard he had some sort of cancer (I
could of sworn it was Pancreatic). He certainly looks frail. The other day
I was looking at pictures of him from late 2000 and WOW! This is a HUGE
difference. It is certainly sad to see anyone suffer from a disease, especially
    cancer.

Yes, the doctors said he is going to die soon. I forgot the estimation (in months) the doctor gave him. Seriously, I read that everywhere. And yes, really saddening. Could this be the cause of his step down just recently?

The guy loves Apple. I couldn't see him resigning unless things were very bad. Yes, sad.

He has had at least liver and pancreatic cancer. Multiple site cancer generally means like a 100% chance of metastasis, which is a VERY bad sign. Basically, his place on any list would be low, and his chances of needing something are high. And pancreatic cancer certainly isn't a good one to have. He probably can't be on a list for a pancreas transplant, and the pancreas is pretty important. It turns out that it has two basic functions. It assists digestion of food(through enzymes), and determines how various components of the foods, carbs protein cholesterol and fats, will be used/stored.

Frankly, I am surprised he lasted this long. In a 2005 speech he is quoted as having recalled that doctors told him he had no more than 3-6 months. Apparently, he has had the cancer since at leas 2004. It was detected as early as mid 2004. So he has lived 7 years, and almost that much longer than the doctors predicted.

As for the last presentation? They didn't even know if he would make it, but he really wanted to. And this is not the first time that he has looked so frail. Frankly I was as surprised as you seem to be a couple years ago, having not really followed him.

It is scary how so many tie him so closely to the company and all. They even forget about Lisa and Next. Although lisa COULD have been nice if they didn't push so hard to make it 100% user incompatible, and it were priced it at 50% of the price. And Next could have been nice with the same provisions. In fact, apparently, the mac owes a lot of its history to next, or certainly to lisa. AND, with the mac, they DID lower the price and make it more compatible. And they forget how Jobs pushed a lot of the old talent out of the company.

The ipad was really reactionary. It was a late comer. Introduced years after the concept was mass produced, and after it seemed to be taking off. The ipod and iphone would probably have happened earlier, but apple WAS a computer company.

Don't forget, Apple exists today SOLELY because someone at HP said the SAME thing! Wozniak practically went to them, handed it on a silver platter and said HERE is a computer! Take it, it's yours! HPs response? "NO THANKS, we're not a computer company! GOOD LUCK!" And that was good and all, but Wozniaks move was actually a good one. As an engineer, had apple taken off, and he HADN'T offered it to HP first, HP could have come after him for violating his contract.

I never really looked at the MP3 player market but, if apple were the first, they might have looked at the old successes, and new prices, and wondered if the market were saturated anyway.

I just came across pictures that shows that much of this picture was photoshopped by pointing out some of the very small flaws that only a Photoshop expert could notice.

... it originated on TMZ, so the fact that it is not quite 'real' should not come as much as a surprise, as they are much more of a tabloid than an actual source for news.

I will try to dig it up again.

never liked this guy, never bought any Apple product. Maybe some sweatshop workers in China would find comfort in seeing this picture. Oh, sorry, these are workers, they may not even have a desktop computer, not to mention the trendy, stylish, pricey i****!

Just because he is thin doesn't mean he is in the last stages of his battle. My father in law has been battling liver and pancreatic cancer for five years now. Some months he's thin (when going through treatments), other months he's back to himself. The diminished appetite is a bear to overcome when getting chemo. The **** they're putting into him seems worse than cancer.

Whether it is photoshopped or not makes no difference to the fact that he is very ill and his life expectancy is limited. He appeared to be wearing some sort of hospital gown and it is almost impossible to prevent a paparazzi shot near a hospital.

The shortness of resignation letter suggests that his health had suddenly deteriorated sharply and that he did not plan for that.
