...the world is totally ****ed up?

This morning i was listening to the news and there's a good looking blonde lady who was doing a column about pets/animals.

Obviously this lady has NO EXPERIENCE whatsoever dealing with dog/cat and she was standing there explaining to a few million of people that it was NOT normal for animals to be frighten by lightning and thunder...

She was basically says that it was not normal for animal to behave with instinct (How they suppose to behave)

But that wasn't all... Then she goes explaining how human can make their animal feel better and remove all the "ANXIETY" by taking a few pills...

Yes that's not a typo... antidepressant!

So now there's a few million people out there who believe that if their animals barks or hide when there's a storm outside, they have a problem of anxiety and they will run to the nearest petshop to buy their animals some antidepressant just because a dumb blonde that obviously suck the hell out of his boss to have a column on a national tv morning news show, said so.

what the hell is going on??

I think I'm going to sell my home and run as far up north I can because there's an obvious epidemic of insanity that is growing and no one seems to have noticed it...

My opinion on this: When the ratio of human is greater than the nature surrounding them, their quotient is divided by 1000.

Well... you've been warned.

I'll wait for you all in NUNAVUT!
Oh man I feel better lol

  • Well, it IS a worldwide epidemic! HECK, I checked out info on the pancreas to validate some things I was saying today and some said "OH NO PROBLEM! The pancreas is ONLY so you aren't diabetic!"! GIVE me a break! It turns out the pancreas does less than I thought but less than 5% of it, by volume, has ANYTHING to do with diabetes! Will removing it make you diabetic? SURE! But that is NOT the only problem you will acquire!

It just goes to show you that if one reference strays too much from your idea, you should certainly keep checking. You can't trust any one site anymore.

And animals are SUPPOSED to be scared of lightening and thunder. Even HUMANS are, to a degree. WHY? Well, thunder represents a change in pressure that COULD cause problems, and certainly could mean lightning is on its way. And lightning could FRY you, or at least stop your heart. AND, since air is such a great insulator, if you are standing in an open field where there is a lot of lightning, there is actually a pretty good chance YOU could get hit! If you stand under a tall tree or something, the lightning may decide you are a good short cut, and STILL go through you. The fear encourages you to act accordingly.

  • Remind me of the other day... I went to the doctor because I had pain and pressure in my belly.

The doctor looked at me and ask: "Is there any even in your life that could make you feel stressed?"

what's that question for god sakes... Who in the world is NOT experiencing stress in his life!

Guess what was the brilliant diagnosis... Too much anxiety!

She took her pad and propose me to take some antidepressant...

I was sitting there trying not to listen to her propaganda that she was told to say in the last week-end convention.

1000 more prescription and She will get the huge BONUS... after all that "doctor" have a dream and goals to achieve too...

I think antidepressant are the new antibiotics... remember in the early 80's everybody was on the antibiotics?

    • At my local doctors you often have to wait as the medical sales reps get first chance to see the doctors before you the patient does.

My doctor usually gives me free samples of whatever the reps have just off loaded on to him.
  • Is there any location on earth people are still sane?

let me know... I'm packing right now!
  • Yep. People individually can be extremely intelligent. En mass they are about on the same level as hooved herds.

Don't worry about it. Just figure that if people are going to be stupid enough not to survive, they won't.

  • Um...do you really think "millions of people" are so dumb they won't be able to see through the nonsense just as you did?

Stress and anxiety can cause all sorts of physical ailments. I'm not saying your doctor was right or wrong, I'm just saying the diagnosis is not as far-fetched as you seem to think. In many cases, perhaps a majority of cases, the diagnosis would be correct. If it's not correct for you, it only means your case might be outside of the norm.

    • In which case we'll make sure you get the appropriate drugs for being outside the norm!!!

  • Might I inquire what network this was on?

Or should I venture a guess...?

did this lady also happen to be a "pet psychic"?

(Doggy Downers...how to turn your dog from a "Marley" to a "Wilfred"?)
  • Most people do not, do not, belong on anti-depressants. Less than 5% of people actually need to be. When I say need to be, I'm talking an actual chemical/hormonal/neurotransmitter imbalance. Most people will get "down" from time to time and feel bad, but that doesn't mean they should be taking something that if not needed, will actually make them more depressed as it changes the chemistry of the brain and completely disturbs your neurotransmitter production and re-uptake. Anxiety medication is similar, yet not as bad for you. It's easier just to prescribe these types of meds, than actually recommend a good therapist that can work with you on coping with any issues you may be experiencing. It's also easier for people to just take the meds than deal with the stigma of therapy and/or feel that if they go, they are crazy. It's a shame really.

I personally went in for anxiety, got prescribed both anti-anxiety and antidepressants, when I didn't want the antidepressants whatsoever. I took them for a week because I thought good old doctor knows best, until I read more into them and also heard about them in my psychology classes for my major. Bad news. Quit right there and used the anti-anxiety to get through what I needed and now no longer require either one. It's all big pharma and brainwashing doctors into thinking that people need all of the meds they do when most people are overmedicated as it stands. Don't even get me started on statin drugs like Lipitor. Highest money making sector of pharma when the fewest people require it. All about the money.
  • Is it really that kind of unreasonable? I still think there are already so many crazy people now, not shocked.
  • Dennis - millions of people will see through it. Unfortunately, there are 10's of millions who aren't, maybe hundreds of millions. The drug company profits for those things are becoming so high that they are in competition with oil - just for anti-depressants. The stats now sit at the average American taking multiple prescription drugs every day.

Anti-depressants are the new valium - the drug that they tried to put every woman in the world on back in the late 60's and early 70's. They made numerous attempts to put me on that drug. When so many women were getting sick, addicted, dysfunctional, and ODing on the drug and the medical industry got called out on it - their excuse? We needed the supplement because it wasn't in our system naturally !!!?????

Then it was antibiotics. They fed people so many antibiotics for so many things that antibiotics don't even help that now we have them in most of our municipal water supplies and the things they really actually do help against are now becoming immune to them. Also - do you know why they give antibiotics to cows? It's not to keep them healthy -- it is to make them fat. So what's one of the reasons Americans who were fed antibiotics like we feed dogs their daily treat so fat? Go figure.

Now we are on anti-depressants. I got to watch one woman convulse to death from them. I have seen an extremely intelligent and creative little boy forced to use these (DHS) and turned into a literally drooling lump from them. Not sure if mommy won her lawsuit against the school system and DHS for that one. Those are just two. People are being fed these things as the next greatest answer to life and they are rarely saying no. If a school system or DHS is involved with forcing a minor to take them - the parents will have their kids abducted by DHS for refusal to drug them. Suicide rates are climbing, too.

Yes - there are millions who see through this kind of thing - there are so many more than that who do not. And when it comes to force feeding.......what name do you put on slavery to make it feel more gentle?
  • Much of the problem with pets and pet owners is the way the owners treat their pets during thunder storms. The natural/typical reaction is when they see their pet is frightened to pet it and try to comfort it.

What they are really doing is reinforcing this frightened behavior. If you have a dog that's afraid of thunder and hides and trembles, if you pet it during this state, you are teaching it to act this way next time. Instead, during thunderstorms, you need to do something your dog loves to do, like play with a ball or go for a ride every time there's thunder.

If you can catch this thunder anxiety early enough, most dogs will learn to look forward to thunder and not be afraid of it.

    • Sal, the OP was talking about people getting antidepressants for their pets. I just don't see millions of people running out to buy antidepressants for their dogs and cats. Depending on which news station the OP was watching, there may not have even been a million people see that news clip.

That's some good, common sense advice right there.

    • This reminds me of a Frank Kern video, which apart from bad language, has been pulled, along with others. Grumble

But, in this video he had a go of so called Dr Phill, (knows Opera, etc) and apparently on one of his shows, he was saying how a young girl should go on antidepressants, because she couldn't watch Scooby Do, (kids cartoon)!

The think that the title of the show was, child is depressed because she couldn't watch Scooby Do.

And of course during the ad break, there were antidepressant adverts!!!!! Arrrgggg

Yep, money and fear of the lack of money is the root of all evil, (or stupidity)!

Explains why death rates dramatically decrease, when doctors go on strike!

People assume they know everything, but their stuff-ups, prove otherwise!

There's certainly a lot of stupidity and craziness in the world, but are you sure that wasn't satire?
  • Adults do - children don't. Yet some children are afraid of thunderstorms and some aren't. Adults will often jump at a huge crash of thunder even though they do know what it is.

I agree with the dog behavior - you need to respect an animal for what it is instead of dumping your human emotions on the poor pet.

    • Yes. Thinking of dogs as people is one of the problems some dog owners have. Dogs are much easier to train (and calm) if you respect them as dogs.
  • Just another post brought from the past for no real reason....
