Music You Probably Never Heard But Might Love

If you're an NFL fan you've probably heard this song as a soundtrack to NFL Films clips...It's a song by Sam Spence who is a very underrated composer.

Listen to the song on its own merits and not just as a sound track...It's pretty cool.

I like Hazeldine, Frank. The music reminds me some of Neil Young on the Ragged Glory album (I think his most underrated album).

oncewerewarriors, let me help you ... posting videos is a little different than embedding video on a web page. To embed a video, find the one you want at YouTube and click the Share button. Then click the Show Options link, and put a checkmark by the "long link" option. Copy the code in the text box. It should be one line that looks something like this:

To embed the video here on the forum, place that URL in between BB URL tags. Like this:

You'll have to change this ( to [ and this ) to ] and should embed the video. I had to substitute the brackets so it wouldn't turn into a link. I think this is the video you wanted:

Im a new Paul Black fan! I have never heard such a unique slide tone. Most people think its effects when someone sounds so different.... but its really that people have different ways of touching the strings....This guy has a real cool touch. Thanks Dennis!

another great example of personal touch. at about 3:11 the drums stop and she starts pounding this one note... most people would just hold the note down with their left hand and pluck with their right... there isnt any reason not to hold the note down (on the surface) because it doesnt change... but the "tone"... the personal feel comes from the fact that she is simultaneously hammering down on the note instead of holding it down with her left hand, and she hammers at the precise moment of striking it with the right, then lifting back up so the note doesnt hold out at all... "Yeah staccato, big deal" right?

No thats not it, its the timing when she comes back down on the note and plucks at the exact moment of hammering down on it causes that fat kind of out of phase tone combined with the staccato feel that comes from immediately raising back up off of it and ending the sustain... also the way she is hammering down close to the fret gives it a little extra buzz, so this note has alot of texture... not real heavy effects other than distortion... She looks like she is thrashing mindlessly but she has developed a personal way of attacking her notes... Now I dont think that makes her Steve Vai or anything... but it tells you that even "seemingly" clueless type rockers who dont play a million notes can have technique and be intentional... and they sound the way they do for a reason. I appreciated her alot. Alot of [people think an individuals sound comes by accident, but I appreciate that she seems to be doing that on purpose. Its more than I expect from most obscure type thrasher guitar players. Ill bet she is also real attached to her fender Jaguar (or Jazz master), because she seems very intentional about her tone.

Peoples personal feel is really important... A note is not just a note... If it were she could just hold it down with the left hand and not move her hand from the note, and just pound on it with the right...because the actual note doesnt change, but the way she attacks it gives it a personal tone thats unique.

I can understand why they (sony) used him, he has a real nice way of hearing a slide and playing it. Very unique. Almost similar to the way he sings... Music is so cool if you are really into it, you can hear all the little nuances that alot of people miss...Which is probably why you can appreciate a guy like this, being a musician.

Frank, I like that too. Kind of a lonely sound, but it has the same kind of appeal to me that Robert Plant's Big Log does. I'd give you another "thanks" but my button is gone.

These groups I feel are under-represented in the forum and of course maybe they are obscure and not to anyone else's taste as they are a bit different - a bit ethereal and a bit eccentric - but I like them.

I don't normally listen to rock, pop or rhythm n' blues music. I'm more into classical, easy-listening and folk.

Hoewever, I really like these two. Their harmonics are fabulous; their percussion and voice - superb. I REALLY like their style!

Val, when you're on YouTube click the Share button. That will open a dialog with a Link to this video url. To the right is a link that says Show Options. Click that, then check the Long Link box. Copy the url.

Once you've done that, paste it in between [url] and [/url] BB tags. The link for your video would then look like this:

If you have the editor turned on for your account it's even easier. There's a little blue globe with two chain links. Click that icon and paste in the url and you're done.
