Carbonite Saved My Life Tonight

I should probably post the Elton John classic at the end of this.

My week from hell continued yesterday when my XP computer finally bit the
dust. Long story short, I had my tech install Windows 7. I love it.

But...

I obviously lost everything as the old PC was scrap metal.

Fortunately, I was using Carbonite online backup.

Today, I started going through all the stuff I needed, starting with all my
Roboform passwords. Needless to say, 8 years online has generated a lot
of websites with a lot of passwords. Possibly as many as 300 or more.

Took me a while to find everything I needed but here I am at 12:43 (just
5 hours after getting to work) and back at the Warrior Forum.

I still have a ton of software to either reinistall or buy new versions of (a
lot of my stuff was very old and probably won't be compatible with Windows
7) but at least I can access all my accounts thanks to Carbonite and
Roboform.

I can't say enough about the Carbonite service. It literally saved my life
tonight.

Nice confirmation. I saw a carbonite TV commercial last night and thought, "Wow ,what an awesome service to offer". Guess they are the real deal hearing it from you.

John, when you go online to do a restore, after logging in, it's just like opening
up Windows Explorer. Everything is laid out just as it was on your computer.

Downloading is easy. You can do all at once or pick which files you want by
checking them off and clicking "Download."

The files download into a zip file and then once on your PC, you can extract
them and put them wherever they go.

They're for real, and very reliable. Just make sure you have your Carbonite password somewhere you can get it if everything crashes.

I have a friend who uses it. When her laptop got stolen from her truck on her way home from a trip, I loaned her one of my machines. She was back to work the next morning.

It can be painfully slow for a very large amount of data, but if you just back up the important stuff, it's a fantastic tool.

        Steven...

A little tip for you which will help you never to lose passwords again.

        You know what I do?

I keep all of my passwords in a A5 hardbound alphabetical telephone directory. (Knowing you, you might need an A4 instead)

Now, if I don't want to save a password on the computer, just open up the password directory - for example, let's say the site name is LinkedIn... I turn to the letter L and look for the entry. And look, there is the name of the site or program, here's my user name, and there is my password clearly written down.

Now if the computer kicks the bucket, I've still got all of this data completely safe.

For about £1/$1 it's a good bargain system to backup all of your passwords and takes 30 seconds to enter the data with each new program installed.

I hope this little security tip helps you out should the worst ever happen to you again. Put this advice to good use and may it look after you well.

        Kindest regards,

        Mark Andrews

Good To Hear. I think we all been in the same position at one time or another
and have sweated bullets wondering how we will get everything back.
Good to know that Carbonite works as advertised.

I absolutely give it 5 out of 5 stars. I still haven't figured out how to reinstall
the software yet so I can continue to backup on a regular basis. So many
things to do right now, don't know where to start.

Something else I just discovered with Roboform.

Let's say you don't remember the URL of one of the sites you have to log into
but would know it just by seeing the name.

Using Roboform, you can click on logins and your whole list of logins will appear
with an option to take you to the URL. So you don't even have to remember it.

I'm learning all kinds of neat things today.
