3 yr old Adolf Hitler taken into State Custody

Can the state take a kid away from their parents because of his name? That sounds illegal and wrong. Even though they were insane to name their child Adolf Hitler. Poor kid. Set for a life of bullying. It's not his fault. And his sister's middle name is Aryan Nation.

A 3-year-old boy named Adolf Hitler and his two Nazi-named younger sisters were removed from their New Jersey home last week and placed in state custody, police said.

Adolf Hitler Campbell and his sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, were taken from their Holland Township, N.J., home on Friday by the state's Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS), Sgt. John Harris of the Holland Township Police Department told FOXNews.com.

Their father, Heath Campbell, is expected in court Thursday in Flemington, N.J., in connection with the case.

Kate Bernyk, a spokeswoman for the DYFS, said confidentiality laws barred her from commenting on the case or even confirming that the Campbell children were involved.

"DYFS has their reasons and they normally don't release any information, so we kind of have to go on faith with them," Harris said. Police were not told what the agency was investigating.

"I've dealt with the family for years and as far as the children are concerned, I have never had any reports of any abuse with the children," Harris said. "As far as I know, he's always been very good with the children."

Speaking generally, Bernyk said the state's "decision to remove a child is based on the safety and well being of the child and the risk to that child, and that decision is made in conjunction with the courts and the county family court judge."

The Campbells made national news last month when a ShopRite supermarket refused to sell them a birthday cake with Adolf Hitler's name on it. The story generated a slew of angry Internet chatter.

Forensic psychologist N.G. Berrill said naming a boy Hitler could be considered child abuse.

"Part of it is the infantile nature of the parents' behavior," Berrill said. "You can name your dog something weird, but they think they're making some kind of bold statement with the children, not appreciating that the children will have separate lives and will be looked at in a negative light until they're able to change their name. It is abuse."

Last year, a New Zealand court removed a 9-year-old girl from her parents in order to change her birth name: Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. In that country, officials do not deem a name abusive unless it causes serious bullying.

Heath Campbell told the Easton-Express Times last year that he named his son after Adolf Hitler because he liked it and "no one else in the world would have that name."

A paper to be published in March in Social Sciences Journal by economists David E. Kalist and Daniel Y. Lee of Shippensburg University found that unpopular first names, when mixed with factors like a disadvantaged home life, can increase the tendency toward juvenile delinquency.

Lee told FOXNews.com that Adolf and Hitler were not names they looked at for the study.

"Hitler most likely would be an unpopular name in the sense that not many people name their children with a name [like Hitler], but we didn't particularly look at particularly bad names like that," he said.

Valerie - If they want your kids they will take them and just custom make charges to justify it. They are NOT YOUR kids any more.

As far as the names - It's a tough call. I think they are right that the kids will have a lot of torment from society over them - they could suffer psychological damage without help from society when they get old enough to realize who their namesakes are, too - and that's not fair.

Taking a kid out of a home in which they are not being abused is going to be pretty freakin' traumatic, too. IF that is the only reason the kids are gone that is also child abuse. I am hoping they have better reasons if they pulled the kids. They can just enforce a name change and don't need to take kids from parents over them. Unless there is something more dangerous going on this is just another "conditioning" procedure.

I believe (the real) Hitler's grand-nephews are from New Jersey, or somewhere nearby.

Hitler's older half-brother had a child with an Irish woman he met while living in Dublin. That child, Willy Hitler (yes, really!) fought in the U.S. Navy during WW2 and later settled in New Jersey (or somewhere nearby) where he had 4 sons.

I expect when these kids are older they will change their names (or stop using parts of their names) themselves.

To call it child abuse is ridiculous - and I don't understand why child services say they had lots of contact with the family but then go on to say the parents are good parents. So why the contact?

The abuse is taking a 3 yr old away from the parents he knows and loves. I think the names are stupid and wonder just how bigoted the parents are - but there's no law I know of that says only people who believe a certain way are allowed to keep their children if the kids are well cared for.

But isn't that what happened in Texas when babies and children were taken from their home and families because of one complaint from a person who said they were living in a cult where girls were abused and forced into marriage? The complaint was proven to be false - the person making it was not a 16 yr old girl and had never lived (or been to) that family compound. But even after knowing that, the children were distributed throughout the state and kept from their families until the court ordered them returned home.

      Political correctness run amok.

Too many people in power think they have the right to control how other people live.

If you're immature enough to call your kid Adolf Hitler, you're clearly not mature enough to actually raise the kid.
I thought Moon Unit and Dweezel Zappa were a bit strange - and they weren't given other names more "ordinary".

Fact is - the three kids were given odd names (we don't know why but we can guess) but the father sure doesn't look a skinhead.

When they are in school and going forward they have given names they can choose to use -

        Adolf Campbell
        Joycelyn Campbell
        Jeannie Campbell

I knew a university student once whose name really was Ima Pigg - not way to get around that one!

If you took away children from immature parents - there would be a glut of foster kids. Where do you stop - do you take children from non-standard religious parents or atheist parents...do you take children from obese parents. "Normal" is subjective.

I know this is a topic I showed stay away from but I know firsthand from ruined lives that CPS in north america works on their own grounds, they make their laws as they see fit and bend everything else to match.

In regards to the names, although I disagree with them being good names for children because of the image it strikes in people when it is heard, no where on the child birth certificate forms does it state anything in regards to naming the child after someone historical. Whether or not they are regarded in the way Hitler is.

One of the main resources for money for the local governments is foster care and adoption. When times get tough, they target families to take their children for any reason. They can find dirt on anyone and make it fly by corrupt judges. The American way for the last 60 years. Why do you think over 50 % of Americans are adopted or foster care kids. ABOLISH ADOPTION - A Petition by Americans For Open Records

No, I do not agree with them naming their children after Nazis, but that is their "rights" under the US constitution. They and their kids will end up with the consequences of those names....which will end up being changed due to social pressure.

Years ago, my children had elementry teachers named Mr. and Mrs. Sexhour. No kidding!

To give your child a name that is going to be a burden their entire lives is a sign that the parents are either immature or really dont care about the child's feelings. That is a form of abuse to a lesser extent. The worry is whether this abuse escalates and by law nothing should be done until the abuse has escalated to a height where a law is actually broken.I dont know how the authorities got past this.I have an idea that there is proof of further abuse which they cannot publicise for the time being.Only time will tell

I actually found this story appalling and quite disgusting that someone would literally name their child after a person who has committed such evil cruelty to so many people.

Yes, it's abusive. But, should the kids have been taken away. No, I think the parents should have been taken to an insane asylum. The kids could have been given to a family member who has some stinkin common sense.

Ahhh, another move into a communist regime I see...

Now we apparently have limits on what we can name our children.
