Hi all,

I'm new to the internet game and would like some advice on 1) how to go about driving traffic to my website and hopefully conversions and 2) what is the best way to start an email campaign when you don't have enough of a following yet. I was told that I could purchase a list but the email marketing companies prohibit purchased lists. Are there strategies to get a concentrated list (pet owners) that the email marketing companies wouldn't frowned upon? The site is an online pet supply store, selling pet foods, toys, treats, beds, etc. I buy products from different manufacturers so not my own unique products.

Thanks for your advice.

    Your questions are too broad.

I recommend reading some internet marketing books first. Then ask some specific questions based on what you read. Try Web Marketing for Dummies...that's a good start.

    1) Start by doing SEO, getting free traffic from blogs and forums. That will get you the first push
    2) Instead of buying a list, buy a solo ad to a squeeze page.

Get a regular job to feed your daughter.

Work on your business on the side.

If you don't have resources to buy traffic then you're going to have to use free methods and free methods take time and patience.

JasonParker is right. Patience is key to what you need to accomplish here. There's no easy, faster short cuts to building your online business.

If you want to get people to sign up for your pet supply product, start by building a site that offer free information, listings, how-tos, videos, anything... Once you build enough content, try your hands on some basic SEO, you don't need to be an expert to get some decent traffic... basic SEO is enough to get you going... and that will help you build some legitimate traffic on your website. Setup a newsletter form on your page... on every page. Entice them with daily or weekly updates, say videos, how tos, and other info... anything to get them to sign up. This is the half of email marketing (Activecampaign, Mailchimp, etc), the other half is to actually send out your newsletter. Don't stop at your website - use Twitter to your advantage, build a Facebook fan page to get more fans, then setup a newsletter form on your fan page using iframe... Anywhere you can find the opportunity to cultivate your list, you do it. But there's no easy short cut to this. Any business saying there is, its a scam.

      HELP......daughter needs to eat now!

      You can't be serious.

Your daughter needs to eat, to quote you "now!", and you are asking about email and traffic???

Cripes, jack, go feed your freakin daughter, because if you can't feed her "now!", I doubt you can do much else.

You need to be in a social services center or at the mission where they are handing out food, or seeking help and advice from a relative or getting a job or something.

Jack in the Box got specials 24/7 like 2 taco's for 99 cent, and you can get a whole loaf of bread , milk, a dozen eggs and other stuff for 99 cents at the 99 cent store....if you can't feed your daughter on that dude, you got bigger problems than email marketing.

This has to be a forum spam prankster or joker, just to see what people are going to say, like some doofus kid stickin a stick in a tigers cage rattling it around to rile up the beast for kicks and amusement, cause its a slow day and theres nothin else to do, you're bored.

      This thread should be nuked.

Thank you for your advise. Sounds like purchasing a list isn't the way to go. Evicta, thanks for the comprehensive answer, I think I know what needs to get done. Again, thanks guys.

First of all, someone ELSE has already started collecting funds to pay for the wake and funeral of 2 women. I guess they can include your daughter, who is probably dead now of not having enough water.

Yeah, this medium isn't known for emergency actions. You know what happens if you call a hospital? They waste your time playing, in the most inefficient way possible, a message saying "IF...This...is...an...e...mer...gen..cy... hang...up(CLICK)!" NOW, if you stay to listen to the REST of the message, it says "...the...phone...and...dial...9..1..1...!"!

But you want the secret? One that works VERY well? HECK, I once did it and made over $1600 in less than an HOUR!(NO advertising fees!!!!!! NO list!!!!! NO affiliates!!!!! NO JV!!!!!) Too bad that, like I said then, there were caveats, etc... ***I*** turned off the spigot. Heck, one guy named William Gates III, another named Warren Buffet, another named sam walton, another named Steve Jobs, and another named Steve wozniak are among those that did this! One guy once found some watches that some guy decided not to buy, and cut a deal. He sold THEM and started a little business. Maybe you heard of the store named after him? SEARS! He had such great luck with the watches that he built a fulfillment center practically around train tracks. The rest is history. He got some guy to create some raincoats, and he eventually built a clothing line.

OK, want to hear the secret? Get somethng people want, have a USP, and SELL! SIMPLE! Of course, you are askng OTHERS, so good luck with the USP. That also means it is likely too common to be what people want, so it is harder to sell.
