Laptop shopping...UGH!

Hello all...

Well, as luck would have it, someone decided that they needed my laptop worse then I did.

Yep, they broke into my house and helped themselves!

Now I must begin the challenge of trying to find a good replacement.

Hopin' you guys might have some suggestions. I would even be open to a good used machine.

I have done some looking around already. There is just so much to choose from and so many conflicting opinions. One of the very reasons I decided to see if I could get a lil help here.

Thanks in advance for any guidance you might be able to offer...

    Get a refurbished one.
Most of what they call "refurbished" are returns that are practically brand new.
    I got an $800 Compaq for $400 at Micro-Center.

Hope you didn't have lose too much valuable info & programs on the stolen one.
Too say nothing of passwords, etc.

Many refurbished ARE essentially simply repacked products that never really were bad, but refurbished is SUPPOSED to mean they were looked at, tested, the original complaint, if noted, checked and corrected, and any bad parts replaced. USUALLY they tell you that they are NOT responsible for blemishes, or minor wear and tear.

It's almost like buying a flight with name your own price on priceline. You may get the functionality and use, but have problems elsewhere.

    Really appreciate the suggestions...

And yes @Icombs, I am concerned about those very issues. Hopefully I have gotten most of the passwords, etc... changed in time.

You didn't say what your wanted to spend.... you can find plenty of good deals on CL. For Windows I've usually stuck with HP for laptops/desktops with no problems. I have a Macbook Pro as well. I'm not sure how the warranty's work or transfer for windows laptops when selling, but with Mac's it's transferrable along with Apple Care, and even if it doesn't have Apple Care, you can purchase it yourself as long as the computer is still under the normal warranty. I say that b/c you can find some killer deals on CL for Mac's.
