What could have happened to jcpenney...

I am really, really aggravated. My Christmas shopping was going great searching their clearance to get a head start on a few things this year. Their clearance site is very poorly organized, you never know if what you want is available until it is supposed to go in the cart. As I reached close to the end of the men's category, every time I hit next, I was taken to cnn, the news site.

Even the shopping cart was taking me back to cnn. A full Norton scan found nothing wrong with my computer and it wasn't happening on any other site. I'd surely like to get my order, but there is no way I am ever pulling that site back up again. Maybe I should try a few more different sites now that my computer has had a full scan.

Anyone else having problems or know what's happening?

  • Google JC Penney - they got slapped by Google big time for backlinking in all sorts of crazy ways at the start of this year to gain SEO...

Sounds like they're doing it again? Or this is a straggler?

I really doubt this has anything to do with the Google slap. The Norton scan got rid of tracking cookies and didn't bring anything else up as a problem. Since I don't know what was happening, it probably isn't a good idea to access that site again just in case there's a problem. I've had specific advertisements stalk me from time to time in the past from visiting various sites; this was different in that my computer was directed to cnn by clicking the links on Penney's site in their clearance section.

I do seem to remember visiting cnn's site maybe a day or so ago, but nothing was happening like this on any other site. I think I'll stay off that website as well.
