I seem to remember reading somewhere that FB might come out with their own search engine to compete with Google.

Interesting to see that Google is getting into the social niche and Facebook might be going into the search niche.

Has anyone else heard or read anything about this? I would like to get more information as I think that this would be a HUGE thing to the world wide web!

I think both Google and Facebook have gotten too top-heavy and invasive. It would be best for both to be knocked down a few notches.

hi! may be it will be possible for face book management to create a search engine that compete a Google but it will be a challenge for them to compete search engine like Google because in now a days it is the best search engine in the world not easy to compete it for any one.

i think facebook has the potential to beat google as a search engine. Think about it this way .Currently facebook's like button is the most popular button in the world and in future if facebook builds a search engine it will become very popular because it will return result on the basis of number of likes from different locations which is much better than google's ranking system which gives a huge weight to backlinks from other webmasters--- facebook's results will be based on likes of actual common people, not just webmasters

face book never beat the Google because all over world 80 % people know the Google.
when we teach some about the inter net. first we say you can search any thing in Google. Google update time to time. like face book you compare the Google +.

Facebook could create a totally different user driven search engine. They could get all their users to submit their bookmarks and organise them into an engine of sorts.

It would be a totally community driven search engine. They could also get users to constantly recommend their favourite sites. Or even do an engine based wholly on recommendations found on people's walls or the number of "likes"

A search engine like that might be hard to game.

I don't think Facebook will do that. And even if they do, I don't think they can beat Google. Yahoo! can't even go atop of the competition. That's my opinion.

That is not impossible. Facebook has the resources and the ability so I think that will happen.

I haven't heard about this, but it could definitely happen. Remember about 10 years ago the Yahoo search engine was IT. Then Google took over. It is only a matter of time before something else takes over Google. If that something else is facebook, I don't know.
