R.I.P Steve Jobs - Life will never be the same?

I was sad to hear of the passing of Steve Jobs this morning. He was a true innovator and it's hard to imagine what modern day life would be like without his influence. You can't even leave your house these days without coming across at least someone using one of his products whether it be an iPod, iPhone or iPad. He has changed the way we consume news and entertainment forever. He has also changed the way we communicate with one another - for good or bad. He didn't just create products, he created a new way of life. For that he will go down in history among all the other greats... and rightly so. R.I.P. Steve Jobs.

  • I just saw this too... what a shock.
  • Very sad to hear this....R.I.P. Mr Steve Jobs.
  • Crazy. I had a feeling something was up when he resigned. Sad news.

    A true legend.

  • This must be the third or fourth thread about his death. They moved them to the off topic...

    • That would explain why I didn't see any other threads when I posted this one. I don't see this as 'off-topic' at all. He has played a huge role in this industry and discussing his passing and those innovations he has made throughout his lifetime is just as worthy as any other thread in this main discussion forum.

      Right?

me to call another member of the forum an "AssWipe!"

Regardless of how disrespectful I think his post was to Steve Jobs...
      (gawwwwwwwwwwd!)

  • This is very sad news to hear from a true Apple fan. Steve you truly changed my life for the good - thank you.

It was odd that he stepped down as CEO shortly before his death and died the day after the new iPhone was announced.

  • A Very Sad Day in the Business World
  • Apple was one of the most powerful marketing machines in history, still is of course. Steve didn't just innovate, he showed us how great products creates a cult which cannot stop buying.

Heck, I'm no fanboy of apple, but just looking around me, I have an iPod, an iPad (writing this from) and just checking out iPhone deals earlier this week.

Again, not because I'm a fan of apple, but because I'm fan of quality products that don't just look cool, but work better than anything else of it's kind.

And of course, he was an inspirational business person with a great sense of humour and incredible drive and vision.

Rip mr Jobs, you spent your time well.
  • IMHO, he's one of the best marketers the world has ever seen. Very few products can inspire the absolute shopping frenzy and make sales of more than a million units on the first day alone, but he did it.

The term 'Apple Fanboy' isn't used for nothing; the most hardcore of them will buy anything with their logo on it. This is marketing at its best.

It's sad to see him go. He was also a technological visionary that managed to bring the future to the present. Da Vinci, Tesla and the other great inventors would be glad to have him in their ranks.

  • Today the world lost one of the greatest minds we have seen in our lifetimes. This guy was not only a genius but a true visionary as well. He shaped modern computers, modern cellphones, and even revolutionized tablet pcs. Not to mention portable music players. I wish I had a portion of this man's genius. Now we will see if he was the only driving force of Apple or if they will continue in his image.

    R.I.P. Mr. Jobs.
  • RIP. Definitely an innovator.

    • I just watched his video address to the Graduating kids at some uni...
Here is something that made Apple what it is...
      I quote him,
This was about when he was a "drop in at uni" doing classes that interested him.
He spoke about the beautiful artistically drawn and composed posters etc around the uni and it attracted him to do a calligraphy course.

He said, "There was something about it, artistically subtle in a way science can not explain"

That is exactly what Apple is there in that statement!

      RIP Steve.
  • Deeply saddened by these news. Was busy the whole day and did not pay attention to the news, then on my way home fired up my (Android by the way) phone and then THIS...

RIP Steve, we will remember you.

    • He had a very courageous spirit. I found a lot moving in his talk, but especially this:

all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

    • I just heard the news myself I was very surprised to hear about his passing. God bless him.
  • RIP, it's really shocking that this news comes one day after the announcement of iPhone 4S...
  • Man, this is shocking. The guy just went to retirement in august. He worked almost till the end of his life. This shows how much action taker he was.
    • [1] reply
    • I think you will find he retired because of his illness - he knew this was coming. I think we all did after seeing the recent photos of him. Unfortunately it was only a matter of time...
  • Damn, this photo looks so terrible. Last time, i saw him was on stage presenting something. I guess it was related to cloud music storage.

But, i seriously salute guy's strong worth ethics. He got retired just 2 months back, i guess.

Thats hardwork. You cant escape hardwork and he loved what he did so much.

Lot of us think, we will make few millions and buy a yacht and go on vacation with wife kids. But, seriously, you got to love your wokr, that even painful thing like cancer doesnt stop you from taking action.

Awesome, may his soul rest in peace.

One of the greatest innovator and entrepreneur the world has seen thus far.

You will be greatly missed by all.
  • I agree, the world lost a giant today.

But the story of Steve Jobs is still being written...

History books, in whatever form they exist in the future, will no doubt record Jobs as the greatest business and technology visionary and the most accomplished turnaround expert in the last 50 years.

He has to be ranked with men like Henry Ford.

  • Just read a few articles about it, I must say I'm a bit upset. My user title was "Apple Addict" for quite some time... disheartening news. Hopefully Apple, Inc. keeps coming out with amazing products that I can get lost in without the legend, Steve Jobs. RIP.
  • R.I.P Steve Jobs one of the Greatest Minds EVER!!!
  • A great visionary and innovator dying at too young an age. RIP Steve...

  • I didn't know Steve Jobs, and I never bought an Apple product in my life. But this was a sad day to hear that Steve went on to the great reward. He was an amazing person. To think that Apple fired him at one time, even though he started the damn company with his friend. And when they ran into trouble, they hired him back, and he went on to build that company into the highest capitalized company in the world. Hard to imagine that Apple is worth more than Exxon Mobil Corp.

    • Yesterday morning I told my 23 year old daughter that the 'father'
of her IPhone had died. She had never heard of him. That really saddened me. I made her watch CNN al day yesterday. Now she knows who he was.

R.I.P. Steve. You still are a great inspiration to so many people.
  • It's really sad - he's really a genius how not only he created apple, but also created a different world.

    • I always believed that we should never regret the things we did....but rather the things we didn't do.

      Steve......did it all.

He did it so well.....he had the world wrapped around blocks (literally) to touch, feel, and own his latest creations.

      That's not hype......that's true greatness.

And while I wish he could have stuck around longer.....better to have lived 20 lifetimes in ONE.....then shuffle along till the age of 100......accomplishing little more then flipping a remote control while eating a bag of friggin' Wavy Lay Doritos.

Steve figured out the secret to LIFE........DON'T PACE IT. LET IT ALL HANG OUT AND LET THE CHIPS FALL WHERE THEY MAY.

Most lack the guts to do that. Most are too worried about the "Jones Family." Steve wasn't. He sold them the latest and greatest manifestation from his very brilliant mind.

RIP......for sure. But thanks for being so great your legacy lives forever.

      peace, Vegas Vince

    • I'm not a big fan of Apple products, but I am a big fan of Steve Jobs. Sometimes I think he and Gene Roddenberry (creator of Star Trek) had some sort of mental connection.

A lot of items you saw in the original TV show Star Trek are products we use now. The computer Kirk used on a table (Apple II home PC), communicator (cell phone) tri-corder that Spock used (iPad).

Like Roddenberry, Steve Jobs was a true visionary and a marketing genius. Not everyone can create a company that has more cash than the US Treasury.

I remember reading a post somewhere that said...

"During the great depression of the 1930s people were lining up for bread. During the great recession of 2009, people were lining up for the newest iPhone."

      You'll be truely missed Steve.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I'm speechless, he truly lived a life of excellence and made a difference in this world.
  • R.I.P.

Hardly Off Topic! A true marketer if not one of the very best in our lifetime. How can this be off topic when almost everyone here clicked an icon with a mouse to go online and visit this forum? The man and Woz co-invented the mouse and Jobs marketed the graphical interface and the mouse to a world that didn't know they needed it. Top Marketing and relevant to everything > Marketing (with a Capital M).

    Jeffery 100% :-)

    • What a great shame but what a huge amount he managed to cram into his life and make no mistake, the years he was alive, he did have a good life.

I'm in awe of a lot of people that have a serious illness like this but battle and battle until they simply no longer can. The time between when he retired through his illness and the time he passed just shows what a great battler Steve was and a great innovator of our times.

      Rest in Peace chap.
  • Something was fishy about him quitting. Home he died of natural causes and not other wise.

Does any one know his cause of death???

    • Nothing fishy at all.

He'd been ill with a form of pancreatic cancer for some time, he resigned due to ill health concerning that and sadly died from that.

    • The work is completed.

      The machine rotates.

The creator - one of the trigger of mobile computing revolution - had rest.

      Forever.

I stopped and thought about what I got from this man?

Firstly, I'm not a habitual Apple fan, but I use the Apple products everyday, because they make my life easier. These are at my fingertips, would be difficult to do without them.

Secondly, his life and career influenced me inspirationally, sometimes. Despite of his family circumstances, he looked after himself early. Founded a garage company with Steve Wozniak.

This company has grown into what? Steve Jobs was a millionaire at his age of 24. The Apple's liquid reserves were higher than in the United States Treasury, this summer. What a career! How inspirational it is!

The New York Times called him one of the greatest innovator of the modern capitalism.

Eric Smidt (former managing director of big G.) called him 'the most successful business leader of past 25 years'.

Bill Gates called him 'the most inspiring leader.'

I'm far from these leagues. But, their examples spur me to take action.

      Thanks, Steve. Rest In Peace.

  • Was sad to hear this news. He was a truly inspiring person.
  • I can't really put into words what he has meant to the world of technology. As large as Apple became he always seemed like he reatained his core values that launched the home computer industry in the first place. He didn't seem to follow standard practices, he did things his own way inspired by what he loved, which was technology. He really was the leader of tech. Sad to see him go.
  • He changed the world of technology due to his inventions and creative ideas. He is also one of my favorite persons in the business world because of his commitment and attitude. I was very shocked when he resigned as the CEO of Apple and didn't know about his sickness.

  • Steve Jobs was a visionary, one of the few people who understand how technology can directly benefit all of us. We can't imagine living without smartphones now, but they used to be ugly, clunky things which only business people used. The idea of a tablet PC seemed unnessecary until the iPad. These inventions will be foundations to be built upon and adapted by both consumers and industry for years to come. The new Siri intelligent personal assistant will be (would have been?) a quantum leap forward in true intelligent interaction with machines. It's a sad day when we don't have someone like Steve Jobs to move us forward. Let's hope others are inspired to carry on his work.

Very curious to see how apple performs in the next months and years...
  • I feel for his family, but cannot agree with all the genuflecting in this thread-he was a man, not a god-granted, a smart one, but a "great" one-I'm not so sure, and I doubt anybody else who didn't personally know him is either.

He was certainly not a "rebel" (as that fanciful, misleading Apple ad with Bob Dylan, Ghandi, Ali, etc, implied), at least not in the sense that Martin Luther King and Ghandi were-both willing to sacrifice themselves (they knew they'd almost certainly be killed, but relentlessly championed the oppressed anyway) both going up against the guns of powerful empires to defend the oppressed, and both of whom bravely died as martyrs. Jobs died too young, but was no martyr, and was no Edison or Tesla either.

He was a smart business man who knew how to leverage the brains of other people and promote his own personal mystique so well that plenty of Apple fans are now adding to Jobs' credits, inventions that he did not invent.

The people who did will never be known, and probably never make more than the wage they made while working out their brilliant ideas and most of the people who think it was Jobs will die thinking that.

I wonder if any of the Apple admirers among us have thought to start any threads eulogizing the many sweatshop workers that died (of suicide) this year alone, after contributing to Apple's massive profits with their blood sweat and tears, not to mention keeping the price from climbing even higher, by subsidizing every Mac purchase, and every dollar of Mac profits with their underpaid labor.

For every great marketer, there are a hundred workers providing them with the actual stuff to market, without whom the Steve Jobs' of the world would never get anything built, and none of us would have heard of him, let alone be worshiping him as a fallen hero.

"Death Is Very Likely The Single Best Invention Of Life"

I was sad to hear of the passing of Steve Jobs this morning. He was a true innovator and it's hard to imagine what modern day life would be like without his influence. You can't even leave your house these days without coming across at least someone using one of his products whether it be an iPod, iPhone or iPad. He has changed the way we consume news and entertainment forever. He has also changed the way we communicate with one another - for good or bad. He didn't just create products, he created a new way of life. For that he will go down in history among all the other greats... and rightly so. R.I.P. Steve Jobs.
