Does anyone remember Conway Twitty?

I can't see any resemblance. Conway is country with a capital C while Van is,well,Van.
They both are excellent at what they do though.

I don't mean how they look KimW. Listen to some early Morrison stuff and there is a defo similarity in their style of singing.

Bravo, the style of singing is what I was talking about too,not looks.Conway has always been country,Van started out almost as a garage band singer (Them).
But I still cant seen anything similar between Twitty and Van,who sang songs such as Moondance and Jackie Wilson Said,Come Running,etc,etc, I could go on and on.
I know I will get blasted for this,but I think a lot of Van almost has a gospel feel to it.

Agree with you totally. Especially about the gospel feel. But listen to 0:32 and 1;10 in the video and tell me you don't hear a bit of Van there.

Conway Twitty, he's the man. Rockin' those sideburns!

But seriously, Conway Twitty I can stand. Any country music before the 80s I can possibly stand, depending on what it is.

A different kind of star for a different era! When I look at him I laugh, but his stuff wasn't so bad.

edit: And yeah I knew all of his stuff wasn't country, which makes him even more standable! I think his music appealed to a wider audience than just country music fans, when he was doing country.

Same here, I didn't know that about Conway.
I figured he was kinda like ole Uncle Buck here, who was country,but had some of his made into pop/rock by a famous drummer for one example.

He does rock pretty well. And if I remember correctly, he was pretty successful in rock.

Of course, I'll never forget Conway Twitty. His song "Don't Cry Joni" with his daughter Joni Twitty is one of my all-time favorites. I still have it in my iPod.

I can't see it, but I can hear it.

You can tell Elvis definitely had a big influence on Conway's rock years....I think Elvis had a stronger, richer voice, but I like Conway's signing too, especially on Long Black Train.
