Hi fellow Warriors. I just wanted to ask for advise on how to fix the blue screen of death. I already googled it and basically it was saying that the problem could be caused by installation of new software or hardware. Wanted to ask for suggestions from you guys. Thanks in advance for your answers.

The BSOD is *****NOT***** an error! It is a REACTION from a TYPE of error!

If you want help, it is best to say what the ERROR is! This is like saying "A light on my dash went on, how can I fix it"!

Steve is right but in my own personal experience, while the BSOD is a symptom of the problem and it will give an error code and a possible fix, I have found that to stop from going bald from pulling your hair out it is simpler to just do a system reload.

BSOD could be anything. So much so that Microsoft worked hard to ensure that you wouldn't see it in their Vista and Win 7 releases. That said, its a matter of elimination. If you just installed new hardware that is an easy place to start. If you just installed new software start there as well.

Boot into safe mode and try to do a system restore. That, in most cases will solve your issue. If hardware, you'll need to physically remove the added-ware to see if that solves the problem.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

I kept getting the BSOD yesterday after I installed Zonealarm onto my computer. I think it started clashing with the existing Windows firewall that came with the computer. Maybe the same thing is happening to your computer? Did you install anything new recently to make this start happening? I hate the BSOD, its so frustrating lol

You might check your case temp. Make sure the fans are working. I was recently getting "video scheduling error". I reinstalled the video card, updated the drivers, cleaned up the computer, all the usual stuff. Don't know what caused me to look at the temp widget but the box was smokin'. Took the side access off and the back exhaust fan was hung. Replaced it with a Panasonic 26db I had around (real ball bearings, not plastic) and the temp went right down. Problem solved. Wonder I didn't cook the thing.

When you hear someone telling you what YOU can't do, they are usually talking about what THEY can't do.

Definitely a good thing to do. Usually BSOD is an indicator that there are software/driver issues, but they are commonly caused by (or are the precursors of) hardware being fried. Last time I had major issues with the BSOD was my old mini-tower. Long story short, overheating caused drivers to be corrupted, followed by the graphics card starting to fry, followed by the motherboard starting to fry. Catching it at the beginning can be the difference between buying an additional fan and buying a new computer.

See what I mean Deji! The above are only SOME things! It could be a null pointer. It could be some kind of privilege problem. WHO KNOWS? Memory problems, heat, power are wildcards, They can do almost anything, and certainly trigger this problem. A computers CPU is almost like a person. I mean a person's core temp goes up only like 9f, and they could DIE!!!! That is less than 10% and a bit unbelievable, but true. Your temperature gets to like 105f, and you better go to the ER. They will likely work to get the temperature down. OK, with a CPU it must go up a bit more than that, but it can happen FAR faster! A couple minutes could do it.

And with heat. On older machines, simply turning off the machine could cause the fan to break. On newer machines, you could knock a cable lose that could maybe cause it to stop. Of course, a part out of spec may get things to heat up without allowing the fan to compensate. BIOS changes have been known to cause problems on newer computers. And when I say newer computers HERE, I mean like maybe 5-8 years old. Fans USED to run continuously. NOW they may be controlled by circuitry on the CPU. And ANYTHING getting too hot can cause problems.

Th best way to solve the BSOD is a quick reformat. Other than that, try to login to safe mode and do a system restore.

You can copy the BSOD HEX error code that is provided on the screen, then Google this to determine what exactly caused the error. Everytime you receive the BSOD it provides you with an error code at the bottom of the coding you see telling you what caused the crash.

Usually BSOD comes with an error that looks something like this 0x0000001E and that would usually tell you what kernel error it is and what driver is causing the problem.

      • MY SURVIVAL PLAN:

I have cleverly backed up my computer to Mozy.

I have also purchased a new DELL computer that will be going under the X-Mas Tree this year.

That way, IF I do get "THE DEATH OF THE BLUE SCREEN" I'M COVERED!

OK, that's still 2.5 weeks ago. So, wish me luck, until then

        JMB

P.S. I've read so much about The Death of the Blue Screen that it scared the death out of me not to have a couple of back-ups in place. Therefore, I have heeded the advice of others here and have done so.

Wishing you much success and luck with your dilemma!

In many cases BSOD shows a STOP code that can be used to help figure out the root cause of the Blue Screen of Death. Most Blue Screens of Death are hardware or driver related so updated drivers could fix the cause of the STOP error.

yes ,..the Bsod is not an error,..its just effect of not working driver, or error on the hardware...try to wipe the driver and then install the driver again,..

If you suspect it's new software, you can roll back the registry to a previous date, as well as removing the software that you suspect might be causing it
