Steven Wags Inspired The Hell out of Me! - Again!

Im tired of pushing reports... its demeaning to my professionalism, and to my forums image, competing and getting lumped in with posers.

Sure its been a fun learning process...Sure I have made money, though less than i would have doing other things... but Im ready to move on, though I dont mind helpng other people learn it. I think learning to sell reports is a cool thing for awhile...

But its not what I want to keep doing to fund my forum.

I am going to start offering services instead...and charging what they are worth to fund my time on my forum instead of peddling reports. Taking on training clients, writing pitches like others write ad copy...that sort of thing.

Im not going to pull any punches... you have to be able to justify running your forum either through report sales or something else... Sure it only cost a few hundred dollar per month to run,. but the TIME costs alot more, if you really want to do it right and make it a real time help center.

This isnt the way to do it for me anymore.

Im authentic and I dont care what anyone thinks of this post. Im going to be like Wags and quit pulling punches.

Thank you Steven! This decision feels much more dignified and worthy of the high cost I have paid to be me, a true world class telemarketing professional, not a pittance peddler!

New pathways being carved. No regrets, no turning back, especially after this post! lol

Onward and upward!

Now come on Steven and tell me Im not crazy!

    John, you're a raving lunatic.

    J/K. :p

Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. I've been confronted with similar decisions
myself, not so much with IM but with other things...mostly my music.

I can be a sell out and write the kind of crap that publishers want and contest
judges call "good" or I can write the kind of music that I like and say the hell
    with them all.

I'm tired of trying to please people who can't be pleased.

With my business, I do things now because I want to and NOT because I
have to. In fact, I'm putting together a product now that I am really excited
about. It has to do with a luxury commodity that a lot of people buy and
need info on how to go about doing it.

Now that I can afford them, I can go out and learn HOW to get them and
not get ripped off...which is what I'm doing.

    And guess what?

There are so many people out there who will pay for this info because they're
tired of getting ripped off too.

Yeah, the report has NOTHING to do with making money online and it's the
GREATEST feeling in the world to not have to worry about who is going to
    buy it.

I KNOW who is going to buy it...people with lots of cash to spend.

There is so much more to business than just "how to make money online" but
so many people are so stuck in that mindset (that is what IM is, isn't it?)
    that is strangles them.

    NO...THAT ISN'T ALL IM IS.

If anybody thinks that, have them go to sites like Amazon or Barnes and
Noble or WebMD or, hell, Wizards Of The Coast.

The myopia of Internet marketers boggles my mind.

There is a HUGE world out there.

No reason anybody can't go out and conquer their piece of it.

On another note, me and you gotta get together somehow and do some
music. I'll write it, you record it so it doesn't sound like sh*t and maybe
if you still have some contacts with something between their ears besides
saw dust, we might actually get something published, recorded and, here's
    a novel idea, popular.

I know if I really put my mind to it (and with the right performers) I can
    come up with something marketable.

But until that time comes, I'll just keep on writing whatever the hell makes
    me feel good.

In fact, one of these days I should upload my tune "The Men In The White
Coats Parts I and II" for you to have a laugh at. The recording quality sucks
(it was done on a crappy analog recorder many, many moons ago) but the
    song is a hoot.

Anyway, that's it for me for now.

John...it's your life. You gotta do what makes you happy. Otherwise, you're
    living somebody else's life.

And that ain't no way to live.

Glad I was at least some inspiration to somebody.

Not sure how writing reports is demeaning. To me, a report is just a miniature textbook. It might not be your preference - but there's nothing demeaning about it if you are giving useful information.

I feel the same way about cold calling. I feel like total trash when I do that and so it doesn't work for me. Yet look at the millions that do that with success and feel no shame in the activity?

I think as long as honesty is a key - we don't have to feel demeaned doing anything we do that provides value to those on the receiving end.

I've gotta upload it to YouTube. Right now it's just an MP3 on my MP3 player
along with my other goofy tunes.

Oh yeah, "Hero Of The Stupid" is another goof ball tune I did for a friend of
mine who we call hero of the stupid.

They we both done roughly around the same time, circa 1990 or so. I had
the worst recording equipment back then and sung like crap.

      But damn I had fun.

Thanks Steven. Im still going to do reports because they are helpful, but Im not going to count on them to fund the forum. I feel like every project should fund itself, so Im going to start offering services. Ones that cost more. You inspired me to not be afraid to charge what Im worth for these kinds of things.

Yeah, we really need to make some music. Im looking forward to getting back to that as soon as the kids are back and things settle down, we could do a weekend lock down and come out with some awesome stuff!

Sal whats demeaning is when 20 other guys are stealing your stuff, re writing it, and then popping up with rehash of it and claiming they have a new idea... Well honeslty thats flattery, whats demeaning is when you have to defend your credibility against those same guys all the time. Not worth it.

People that appreciate your reports are cool, but having to prove your credibility all the time is demeaning, especially when most of the ones challenging it are posers.

Maybe its one of those days... Lastly its discouraging when everything you write end up being a free download on some crap no morals website.

It sucks that people buy your stuff that you put out with good intentions just to rip it off and give it away.

Steve - I just listened to White Coats - I enjoyed what I could make out of the lyrics, but missed a lot of them. The music was provocative.

I normally don't let people hear my old stuff but I figured what the hell...we're
      all family here.

I know you shouldn't draw comparisons when it comes to music but it's a a bad habit of mine. Men in white coats has a bit of ELO, Syd Barret, Hawkwind and the Daleks from Dr. Who. I've said this before but your sound has a real "British" touch to it.

Yeah, I was very heavily influenced by the Brit Invasion in the mid 60s and
then the Brit prog rock invasion of the early 70s.

Actually, listen to The Move's "Cherry Blossom Clinic" and you'll hear a lot of
"Men In The White Coats" in the intro of the song. In fact, that song was the
inspiration for Coats which is actually a bit of a parody of Clinic.

Hey John, I'm not sure I understand the question.

Do you mean how to make recordings on the Internet or do you mean how to
start a career on the Internet?

If it's the former, no clue. I record stuff here, put it on CD, copy it to my PC,
process it through Camtasia Studio to make an FLV file and then upload it to
      YouTube.

If it's the latter, I guess you would go about it as you would anything else.
Put up a site, upload songs, market yourself via Facebook and Youtube,
build a list and a following, then upload CDs to Amazon and sell.

Hopefully, I've answered your question somewhere in there. If not, if you
can clarify what you meant, I'll take another stab at it.
