World Series

OK....

Here we go!

As a life-long Reds fan the Cards are mortal enemies.
And, I've hated Tony La Rusa since his days with the A's.
But then, there's always the '90 series.
(What's the difference between a puppy and the 1990 A's?
A puppy quits whining a few minutes after you spank him :p)

However, having said that, I really, really hate the AL!
For one thing, they play with 10 men. Baseball is played with 9.
They have a D(ick) H(ead) in every line-up.
I've had more than my fill of the media thinking MLB revolves around
NY and Boston.

So everything considered...

Go Cards! (At least they represent the Reds division.

  • I'm not much of a baseball fan any more, but I'll root for the Cards, mostly because of Pujols.

What I find interesting is how interest in the WS has dwindled over the years. When I was a kid, they'd bring a TV into school and everyone would watch the WS. Now, it's tough to even get anyone to post on a thread about the WS.

  • My favorite team is the Minnesota Twins so I'm an AL guy (who wants to see a pitcher "bat" AKA strike out).

I'm a bit undecided about this World Series. I'd prefer an AL team win and the Texas Rangers have never won the big one so I'm rooting for them. But, two former Twins play for the Cardinals (Nick Punto and Kyle Lohse) and I really liked Punto in the 7 seasons he played for the Twins so I'm also kind of rooting for the Cardinals.

After watching game one on TV, I found myself rooting for Nick Punto and the Cardinals so that's who I'm rooting for now. Whew.
  • Baseball is absolutely the best game ever played.

Although I also have a soft spot for the Reds, I'm a glutton for punishment myself... I'm a Cubs fan - I had hoped Milwaukee getting back home could pull off back to back wins for the NLCS title as I too cannot stand the Cardinals (or La Russa) either.

Watching Game One drove me nuts. It was as though Washington took the bats right out of Texas' hands with the 'move the runner over' strategy. Stupid. Up until tonight all a Texas batter had to do was step in the box and he got an RBI, something about the World Series causes some teams to change everything handing wins over.

    Texas in 6.

    • I agree.
What hurt MLB is free agency.
It used to be your team was YOUR team.
But now, players move around so much that's not true anymore.

I'll get into the Yankees later.

But, for now, I'll just say I have soft spot for the Cubs.
      The "loveable losers".
How can you not feel for Cubs fans?

      Missing game 2. Back later.
  • Oh yeah....

Who ever thought it was a good idea to make Tim McGarver a "color" man?

And, why is he still doing it?
    He really stinks!

  • The Rangers score 2 in the top of the 9th to beat the Cards 2-1 and even the series at 1 game each.

This is only the 4th time in world series history that a team has scored the winning run when trailing after the 8th inning.

    Is this a sign??

Nolan Ryan predicts the Rangers will win in 6 games.

    • Great game!
Especially the play by Andrus shoveling the ball to second.

Even though it went to the ninth 1 - 0 I had a feeling that
      1 - 0 wouldn't hold.

Nolan knows his sh*t for sure. But, he may be a little biased.
(just because... I have a Nolan Ryan autographed ball ).

  • how can you have a 'world series' involving one country?
    • [2] replies
    • Tell that to the Toronto Blue Jays. They'll love that you think they're part of the United States.
    • There's a team in a city called Toronto. It's not in the U.S, but in Canada, so there's 2 countries.
  • I was waiting for the day that purists would actually take their mortal enemies over a team and league just because they like offense. Well, it works both ways. It's just one of those things. People from the N.L. think the A.L. is cheating with their "10" men because of the DH and people from the A.L. think the N.L. is just outdated with their purist rule of pitcher batting and manufacturing runs and just a more boring version of the A.L. The good news though is that the Rangers have the power to hit like the Yanks or Red Sox, which suck , and can also manufacture runs with their small ball. The first true hybrid team. That's why they're one win away from outcoaching, outplaying, outhitting, and outpitching those pesky, lucky to be in, Cardinals. That being said, I still congratulate them on just making it and beating two of the best in the N.L. But down with the 'squirrel' and up with the Rain-Juzzzzzzz.

    • So I hear that LaRusa made some questionable moves in the last game.

What exactly did he do besides hitting the pitcher 8th?

    • I am one the "evil" baseball purists.
I hate the term 'small ball'!
'small ball' IS baseball the way it is meant to be played.
You want to see a bunch of home runs and high scores, go watch a softball game.

      "Chicks dig the long ball".
      "Chicks" don't know baseball.
      Are you a chick?

A great pitching duel is one the most exciting games in baseball.
If you don't understand, no explanation is possible.
If you do understand, no explanation is necessary.

I could go on and on, but but I'll put it on hold for now.

    • I hate the Cardinals because of all the years they beat up on the Mets in the
80s so I'm rooting for Texas.

Mets will rise from the ashes...someday.

  • O.M.G.

I could swear Charlie Daniels is coaching.
  • What a wild & crazy game!!

That was a barnburner for the ages.

I hope game #7 is just as good.

  • I was very surprised and amazed at the comeback of the Cardinals. I was 100% sure that the game was about to end and that the Rangers were going to win it all.

It should be a very good game tonight. Maybe 15 innings?
    • [1] reply
    • If they go 15 innings tonight who the hell is going to pitch?

They'll have to be making roster changes in the middle of the game.
  • I added my post twice by mistake. Fixed.
  • I got a case of beer on the line for tonight's game. Come on Rangers!

    • I got a case of beer FOR tonight's game!
  • How can Washington not start his ace????
  • who's in the world series lol?
  • Damn it it's gonna be another nail biter. Go Rangers!
  • Congrats to the Cardiac Cards!!!

That's two in a row for Texas.

Will Nolan stick with Ron Washington???

  • I was really rooting for Texas to win, never won a WS etc.
But i think the wind was knocked out of them in game 6,
they were 1 pitch away twice in the game.
I don't think you can recover from that...
Will they be labeled as chokers now?

Anyway, Cards deserve it after coming back twice in game 6...
  • Mhm congrats to you Cards fans - you deserve the glory but I'm still extremely proud of my Rangers - they've had two kick ass seasons in a row. Very thrilling!

    • Ron Washington has to go. Letting the pitcher hit in the 5th inning of game 6
with just a 1 run lead was a HUGE mistake and, IMO, was the turning point of
the game, in spite of how it turned out. They could have put it away right there
so that it never came down to the later innings.

Game 7 was just a big disappointment. Texas was never even in it.

Oh well, I've seen worse chokes but this one is going to take a while to get
      over.

Congrats to Cards fans. I guess you earned this one.

Wonder what Big Albert is going to be earning when his next contract comes
      up?
  • OK Steven and anyone else...

Once upon a time...Wasn't Nolan Ryan a Met on the same staff as Koosman and Seaver? And wasn't there another pitcher on that staff that was pretty good?
    • [2] replies
    • Well I was rooting for the Rangers. I always root for whatever team my husband doesn't - that way it is fun to watch the game together. It was a sleepy game compared to game #6 and my hubby is happy. So life is good.

P.S. I am a life-long Reds fan. Nothing will top the Big Red Machine of the 70's, with Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Ken Griffey, Dave Concepcion and Tony Perez! That 1975 World Series was darn exciting!
    • I grew up in the NY metro area.

That would be a pretty good pitcher named...

      Gary Gentry.

That was some staff but they never won 20 games at the same time like my Orioles.

      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • OK, Kurt and anyone else...

Who was nicknamed the Toy Cannon??
