I've seen most of those videos already, love the drum.
It's naturally on my list of drums to own.

It's the first I've ever heard of a hang drum and I feel like I need one.

The first video, that's just over a mile away from me, the lighthouse on the headland, that's 'Fraggle Rock Lighthouse'.

He's playing this in Little Pendennis Blockhouse just under Pendennis Castle built by King Henry Vlll.

If you want more, go to Youtube and type in Panart or Hang Drum. (Pronounced hung drum) - they're made in Switzerland since 10 years ago.

Another variation is the hank drum often made out of old gas bottles.

Thom, I've just had an idea...

All we need is a conductor and about 50 of your motor bike mates. We'll create the first ever motorbike gas tank hank drum band to tour across across America - the conductor up front and the rest of the clan banging away on their gas tanks as they're riding along Route 66 to create a fearful din of music never before heard in all of America!

Tell you what! I'll be the conductor lol. I've got lots of experience...

We could raise a fortune for charity.

One of the guys I ride with regularly is a bass player. When we're stopped a traffic light, we're both beating our tanks in time with the motors
We both have v-twins with somewhat loud pipes so the motors get that cha-chung cha-chung sound going on.

YIKES! It starts out sounding like a TRAFFIC JAM! Visit cornwall AGREES!
However, when it was realised that there was a public demand for the marching cacophony, they started collecting money as they marched, and true to this day - every single penny collected by the Falmouth Marine Band has been donated in support of local good causes
Marching cacophony! I'll have to remember THAT one!

I was going to mention hang drum when in ThomM's recent thread about drums.

(Wondering why you didn't mention them - as i was betting they were among the faves/wish list)

Also kind of wishing for a new music thread this past week...

    Thanks Mark -
I will be bookmarking them - already had the monkees too.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! It's amazing that they have such a clear and long sound when you realize that each part is set to a different frequency in effect. It's almost like a cross between a cymbal, drum, and GUITAR! So they make about 20 a month, have a lock on the market, and have done it since 2001? WOW!

    From wikipedia:

A Hang (pronounced [haŋ], with vowel sound between those of the words hot and hungry) is a musical instrument in the idiophone class created by PANArt in Switzerland.[1] The Hang is made from two deep drawn nitrided steel sheets that are attached together creating the recognizable 'UFO shape'. There is nothing inside the Hang but air. The top ("Ding") side has a center 'note' hammered into it with seven or eight 'tone fields' hammered around it. The bottom ("Gu") is a simpler surface that has a rolled hole in the center with a tuned note that can be created when the rim is struck. The Hang uses some of the same physical principles as a steelpan but with a nitrided surface and structural change of having two clamped shells with a small opening so that the instrument is a Helmholtz resonator.[1][2] The creation of the Hang was the result of many years of research on the steelpan as well as the study of a diverse collection of instruments from around the world such as gongs, gamelan, ghatam, drums and bells.[3] Metallurgical and acoustic research by the makers has led to significant changes and refinement in structure, design, and process over the years since the first Hang was offered.
