In college I had to take a course Arts 310 - it was required in order to make sure all us science majors at the liberal arts college had an appreciation of art.

I had transferred into the school so obviously my theatre studies and acting classes at that 'other' university didn't qualify for me to have an appreciation of the arts.

Unfortunately for me I ended up with the head of the department as the instructor. Unfortunately for him he ended up with me - an older student paying his way through college who spoke his mind - and aced the tests. I made the humongous mistake of telling the instructor to his face - in front of the class - exactly what I thought of his class and the so called modern art forced on civic buildings in NC. what I called urban turds.

Since I aced the tests the only thing he could give me was a C- - despite all 90% or more on the tests. Basically I was dinged for my attitude - of disagreeing with the arts teacher at a liberal arts school - imaging that! I had an opinion different that the instructors and was willing to defend it.

Oh - on the final the one thing I wrote to the question What is art? Basically that anything can be art - but most of it is 'bad' art. What I called urban turds ;-) he didn't like me much......

He had the last laugh though - I had to pay to take the class since it was 'required' and I received no transfer credit to take its place. Except the next semester when the bozo went ahead and accepted my theater appreciation xfer credits. So - I paid for the class, the C I 'earned' counted toward my GPA, but the xfer credit finally accepted did not count for my GPA.

which is where my opinion that most art professors are useless slugs upon humanity comes from ;-)

HEY, it sounds like she MUST have done a good job!!!!! I mean they couldn't recreate the mess? Art is supposed to be more that a mere mixing of colors or textures. I was in a hurry and short of time, but I gave the selection of the two colors of paint on my house more thought than many "artists" give their work! HECK, the contractor and I must have spent like 10 man minutes doing so! HEY, there are a lot of colors, and none were perfect. 8-(

DON'T blame the cleaning lady that did her job! Blame the "artist" and insurance people!

My sister is an art teacher - and an artist. There are times she does something really nice, but frankly, most of her stuff I just don't "get".

I always thought I just had a few neurons that didn't fire properly in that category. It's really nice to hear that others feel the same way.

The one piece of art that really wowed me was the Winged Victory. It's on a landing on the staircase at the Louvre, so it's towering over you as you walk up the stairs. And it is magnificent up close. For my money it's the finest piece of art ever produced.
