I can't believe the NBA...

With all the money they make for such a non contact game, I think they are ridiculous. How much money is the NBA going to lose this year? All those teams, all those seats, all the endorsements. Wow. What a waste.

Anyone else going to miss the games??

What's not to believe? This isn't the first time in the history of sports that
    something like this has happened.

I've lived through more shortened or lost seasons than I care to remember.

    Doesn't even phase me anymore.

As for missing basketball, I haven't watched a game in years.

Greed. And as usual those that will be hurt the most are the working people, like the hot dog vendors, ushers, and parking lot attendants.

Yes, those are the people who will get hurt the most. I have no sympathy for
the owners OR the players. They're both out to drain as much money out of
their business as they can without any regard for anyone else.

Actually it's a handful of poorer owners that are causing this mess. Most of the owners including the Cubans and Buss's and others that have money want to make a deal and negotiate with the players because they can afford it.

The players aren't really to blame. They were getting 57% of the revenue on the last CBA. They were willing to go down to 51 to 53%, which is millions lost for them and much, much more in the owners pockets. It's pretty substantial. They were willing to negotiate and even possibly take 50/50, which is the lowest they should have gone, with other concessions such as salary cap, contract exceptions, and contract lengths to name a few. They are the product, unless the owners are going to suit up with management, the players shouldn't get less than 50%. They're a special commodity that people pay and want to see. It's not like in other industries where you can just go find replacements on that level. If you're thinking half talent scabs, then that won't work. Nobody want to shell out hard earned money, used to spectacular play and thunderous dunks, for some college flunky.

Stern has done everything in his power to sabotage any moving forward, siding with the handful of owners that were horrible managing their money and couldn't turn a profit despite still having tens of millions after salaries were paid. That's their fault for not hiring people that can manage monetary funds as well as not having enough money to actually afford to play with the big boys. People always get on the players, but look at the owners whose main talent is having a lot of money and in many cases are greedier than the players, but no one wants to talk of that.

It appears to be going to court and then on to ??????. Most likely there won't be a season. Players will be sharing funds with each other on loan, the majority of owners will owe tv money but will be fine, and the poorest owners will be the ones that suffer the most outside of fans. I can't say I'm not happy at the hijacking, plotting, poorest owners plight.

It's hard to have any sympathy for millionaires who complain that they aren't making enough money. They can cancel the whole season for all I care. Heck, they can cancel the NBA permanently, and I wouldn't miss it one bit.

I'm much more into college sports anyways. At least those guys are doing it for the love of the sport.

Yeah, I'm sure that's true for a lot of them. But there's just something about college sports that makes it seem more "raw" and more about the game itself, and less about the "externals". You don't see anywhere near the amount of out-of-control egos and entitlement attitudes as you do with pro players, which to me is quite refreshing.

But to be honest, I'm not much of a fan of college basketball either. Now if you're talking college football however... that's another story.

I quit watching the NBA about 5 years ago. It's a product that has been going downhill for a long time. It won't get any better until Stern is gone, IMO. It isn't just me that thinks it's a game in decline. Their television share is about half of what it was 10 years ago. I'd guess the longer the strike goes on the more fans they'll lose.

    Love the college game though!

I'll miss the pros and of course, this delays the regaining of our crown.

For all you who are not aware - that's the LA Lakers I speak of.

The college guys are fun when March Madness come around but I'll take the men over the boys any day.

The one good thing about the NBA if they cancel the whole season is that means Kobe Bryant won't win a Championship this year. haha

I do agree the NBA is more interesting than college. I was looking forward to seeing what Mark Jackson would do with the Warriors.

1/4 of my Nuggets have already signed to play in China: JR Smith, Kenyon Martin and Wilson Chandler.

...But at least Tim's Warriors are tied for first place!

College basketball is the only sport I follow where I'm not a homer. I'd root for the Colorado Buffs to beat anyone, but that isn't likely. So the two teams I root for are the NC Tarheels and the UNLV Rebels.

I believe all these NBA players have clauses in their over sea contracts to allow them quit and come back to the NBA this year if the season is saved. I heard if the season is saved now they would still play about 70 games.

...Except if they play in China, where there's no escape clause. And all 3 are playing in China. But I "think" they can play after the Chinese season is over, which is March/April...

However, all 3 are also free agents, so there's no guarantee they would have signed with Denver anyway. But still...

With the way things are shaping up, they're looking pretty smart since they're playing and getting paid.

I can't wait for the NBA to start. Its unfortunate that money is tied into sports ALL THE TIME. Why can't we just enjoy genuine people wanting to play good sports?...
