Hello Warriors,

Any Jazz fans here? Personally, I love Jazz. After a long day, it's great to listen to some George Benson or Ahmad Jamal. Sometimes, I'll just turn on the local Jazz station and just mellow out.

For the Jazz fans here, who's your favorite artist?

I'm not a huge jazz fan, but do like some. Instead of an "artist", my favorite jazz band would be Return to Forever, although they are probably more "fusion" than pure jazz...

And I love the contrast in this song between Chick's piano and Al's guitar:

And here's probably my favorite fusion song...Especially the first part, featuring a certain "uncredited" guitar player we'll leave unnamed for now...And some simply amazing bass work by Stanley Clarke.

I like listening to Jazz music, especially if I would like to unwind or relax no special favorites, I just love the music itself.

I'm with Kurt on this one.

I personally never got into traditional jazz because as far as I was concerned - it was just too complicated to follow.

I have a early jazz collection - up until the 1950's but then they lost me - with the be-bop and the cool jazz stuff of Miles Davis etc.

As teenagers my friends and I started listening to the Jazz Fusion in the early 1970's which is jazz but with much easier to follow rhythms.

I missed out on most of Chick's fusion but did and still do have the privilege of listening to other fine fusion artists.

The fusion is my 2nd favorite genre of music close behind the funk.

BTW, Kool & The Gang & Earth Wind & Fire started as jazz groups.

Here's my Jazz Fusion playlist on my Itunes account.

    ( instrumentals , I also have a list that includes vocals )

    Hey TL,

What do you think of these...If I had to pick a single song, Freeway Jam may be my favorite song of all time and Thelonius has some good funk elements:

      Pretty cool!

I'll have to add them to my collection.

My fav Jeff Beck song is Blue Wind.

I had that album growing up and listened to that one song at least 500 times.

Blue Wind may be my second favorite song of all time. It may even be #1...I go back and forth between Freeway Jam and Blue Wind. Love how Beck and Jan Hammer play together...

I had the privilege of seeing Beck and Hammer at the Palace Theater in Albany, way back when. Simply incredible.
Funny thing about that concert. George Thourgood and the Delaware Destroyers opened for them and where booed off the stage.

I never added any songs from my favorite artists!

    Ahmad Jamal

Herbie Hancock He ranges from Jazz to experimental and is most known for his song "Rock It". "Rock It" is kinda like a precursor to the Techno genre.

    George Benson

Love jazz. From Jelly Roll Morton to Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Chucho Valdez ....

Here's something I was listening to about 35 years ago. Julius Hemphill on sax, along with drums, cello and trumpet. The sax solo that starts about 2:30 in is one of the best I have ever heard and still gives me chills listening to it. ( Not for the timid used to Grover Washington )

The king of fusion imo, Miles Davis - Agharta ( side A and B )

Ornette Coleman made a revolutionary album back in 1960 called Free Jazz. It's cover had a painting by Jackson Pollock on it, so if you don't get Jackson Pollock's work you won't get this music probably. It's abstract and improvised. There is a double quartet playing. One quartet for each stereo channel....
Ornette Coleman on sax, trumpeter Don Cherry, bassist Scott LaFaro, and drummer Billy Higgins on the left.... Trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, bass clarinetist Eric Dolphy, bassist Charlie Haden, and drummer Ed Blackwell on the right.

I listen to all genres of music, but Jazz is one of my favorites.

I can't recall many names, but one that always catches me is Yoko Kanno - Yoko Kanno - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is one of my favorite songs in existence and I listen to it at least once a week.

Yoko Kanno did the soundtrack for Cowboy Bebop (my favorite anime). I have the entire sountrack to that series and listen to it quite often. It's so good! The music has so much soul!

      Ha.

That's why I'm so addicted to it.

Every single time Yoko Kanno comes on Pandora, I begin remembering the moments of Cowboy Bebop and how much I enjoyed the music.

Sorry about the politics in the video...Disregard the pictures, but it's the only version I can find online of this song....It's called Jamaican Boy and is Jeff Beck and Stanley Clarke and is one of my favorite songs. Note that the song is repeated a few times for the video...This song always puts me in a good mood.

NOW we're talking! One of my bands plays some Ornette tunes and does quite a bit of that free improvisation. I love that stuff (although I like pretty much everything that's been listed in this thread, including the fusion stuff).

As I get older, I find myself listening to more Jazz...because I've grown enough to appreciate it.

I would have to go with the OP on George Benson though, I've listened to him since I was a teenager on KDAY (don't know if it's still around) in L. A.. He really is an underrated musical genius. Just ask Whitney Houston, who made a couple of his songs famous.
