For low budget movies, I love Jackie Chan's Hong Kong movies...

    Night of the Living Dead

re: Jackie Chan, Hong Kong - One night we rented a Jackie Chan movie. I don't remember the title but it clearly was one of his earlier ones. And it was in Chinese. So it was kind of interesting trying to make it all out. Doh! There was an English version on the video too. Dumb but funny. I am such a fan though I rewatched the whole thing in English.

Just found this on Billy Jack:

    Budget - $800,000 (estimated)
    Rentals - $32,500,000 (USA)

    Night of the Living Dead

    Budget
    $114,000 (estimated)
    Gross
    $12,000,000 (USA) ( January 2000)
    $30,000,000 (Worldwide)
    Rentals
    $1,600,000 (USA)

Yep, Death Race 2000 was incredibly bad enough to be worth watching.

I would add to the list 'The Blob' with Steve McQueen, and more recently 'Tremors' with Kevin Bacon.

The Thing from Another World I liked, and when I was very young I remember a movie called Mole Men, I think.

The Blair Witch Project was cool. Freaky but cool.

There's also the Toxic Avenger movies. Love those too.

And yeah, all kung fu flicks of Jet Li, especially those that portray him as the legendary fighter Wong Fei-Hung.

Currently I saw a French film titled 'Wasabi' starring Jean Reno. I don't know if that was low budget but the movie was very hilarious so might as well share it here.

    Halloween

    American Graffiti

    Clerks

    Enter the Dragon

    Rocky (1)

    Texas Chainsaw Massacre

All had a budget of 1m or a lot less and made multi millions...there were others, but I actually liked these...

Paranormal Activity 3 was really good, and it would have been pretty cheap to make

Anyone ever see that low budget fan made Lord of the Rings movie?

Hunt for Gollum I think it was called. Absolutely amazing what they accomplished, most of it done by volunteers.

In terms of widely released "low budget" films?

Requiem for a Dream was produced for a measly 4.5 million and is an amazing piece of film. Darren Aronfsky's pi is great as well and is super low budget.

The original Paranormal activity was shot on prosumer camera equipment, on a strict seven day schedule and was developed because the creator was trying to overcome his fear of ghosts.

A lot of numbers have been thrown around but its safe to say that the cost to produce the actual movie was under $10k. I'm sure marketing the thing cost a bit more than that.

It's a favorite of mine, and not just because the guy who made it used to frequent a indie-filmmaking forum I posted on when I was still into that.

That reminds me of “Braindead.” (I think it was called “Dead Alive” in the US.) Directed by Peter Jackson.

Good movie although not one of my favourites. YouTube it if you're interested in low budget horror

        What's with all these lightweights?

        Invaders From Mars - $290,000
House On Haunted Hill - $200,000
Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman - $88,000
        Plan 9 From Outer Space - $60,000
The Hideous Sun Demon - Under $50,000 and shot in 12 weekends.
Robot Monster - $16,000 (4 days of shooting)
The Giant Behemoth - (The animation work cost $5,000 )

I'll stop there or I'll be at this all day. Some low budget wonders I couldn't
find stats for so I left them out, sadly...because they are some real classics.
But these should give you an idea of what REAL low budget schlock is all
        about.

At least somebody mentioned Night Of The Living Dead. But the rest of these?

What a bunch of panty wastes.

Plan 9 from Outer Space is the B-movie that I always think of when someone says low budget. It was so badly done that it took on a comedy effect.

Plan 9 is the B-Movie to end all B-Movies and yet it didn't have the smallest
budget. In fact, I don't even think it would make the top 5 if you could get
production stats for some of the amazing crap that's out there. Robot Monster
is probably in the top 5 and maybe close to the top, but I can't be sure without
            more research.

I've always been a HUGE fan of low budget thrillers. One day, when I have the
time, I'll dig up some more gems (with their production figures) so we can have
            a really good laugh.

Poor Bela Lugosi. The movie was so bad, he died mid production.

            He probably died from embarrassment.

I have a soft spot for The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Saw this over 50 times.

From Wikipedia: The film has taken in US$139,876,417 at the US box office since its release. The length of its run in cinemas (weekly for over 30 years), combined with its considerable total box office gross, is unparalleled by any other film. The original budget for the film was US$1,200,000 (estimated).
