Link baiting is probably the best way to build backlinks. All you need is some decent content, tools, or something that people will link to. I've only tried link baiting through giving away web templates with a link in the footer, and that worked pretty well

Do any Warriors still use free reports with links back to their website as link bait? Is it still effective?

I used to do this years ago with great success but I've not done it recently. This thread has got me thinking that now might be the time to get back into it.

I've used link baiting very successfully by writing content about controversial subjects. I tend to do this with politics, religion, etc. but if I was selling products I'd adapt the strategy.

For example, instead of reviewing a new PC I'd write an article about why Macs stink and then compare the newest Mac to the new PC I'm trying to sell. PC lovers will link to it as a fine example of why PCs are better and Mac lovers will link to your "idiotic" article.

I'm not into selling products but I'd be willing to bet that those of you who do could think of lots of ways to use this technique.

Love it. There's nothing quite like writing a controversial post to get a reaction. I wrote 1 on why HCG was not an effective weight loss tool and the reaction I got was incredible. I had quite a few ferocious arguments going on in the comments section :-).
