The Mother of Heatwaves is Coming!

In Adelaide, South Australia where I live, the forecast for the next week is:

Tues: 41 C (106 F)
Wed: 41 C (106 F)
Thurs: 41 C (106 F)
Fri : 39 C (102 F) Thank God for the cool change!
Sat : 35 C (95 F) Break out the cool weather gear
Sun: 37 (99 F)
Mon: 35 C (95 F)

Now I have asked before that we trade for some of that crazy frigid northern hemisphere weather, but I didn't get any. And I am sure I sent some heat north!

So come on, I want, say, 5 degrees C less. Is that too much to ask?

PS - Jesse, my avatar and wonder dog, won't go outside when it is hot. I open the door and she looks at me as if to say "Are you nuts?", turns around and goes back to sleep.

    Ron,

If it gets too hot for ya, send some of that heat towards the U.S. for us. It's FREEZZZZING here in Michigan.

for nearly three weeks now without a break.

Then the bushfires started this week, and all hell broke lose.

But last night it was so cold here in the Central Goldfields, vic. that we had the electric blankets on.... go figure!

Diary of a Brisbane Summer (by a Pommie!)

      August 31st
Just got transferred with work into our new home in Brisbane!!

Now this is a city that knows how to live!!

Beautiful sunny days and warm Balmy evenings.

      What a place!

I watched the sunset from a deck chair on the verandah.

      It was beautiful.

      I've finally found my home.

      I love it here.

      September 13th:

      Really heating up.

      Got to 35 today.

      Not a problem.

Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car.

What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this.

I'm turning into a sun worshiper.

      September 30th:

Had the backyard landscaped with tropical plants today.

      Lots of palms and rocks.

      What a breeze to maintain.

No more mowing lawn for me.

Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

      October 10th:

The temperature hasn't been below 30C all week.

How do people get used to this kind of heat?

At least today it's kind of windy though, but getting used to the heat and humidity is taking longer that I expected.

      October 15th:

      Fell asleep by the pool.

Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body.

      Missed 3 days of work.

What a daft thing to do.

      I learnt my lesson though.

Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

      October 20th:

I didn't see Kitty our cat, sneaking into the car before I left this morning.

By the time I got to the hot car at lunchtime, Kitty had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stank out $3,000 worth of leather upholstery.

I told the kids that she ran away.

The car now smells l ike Whiskettes and cat shit.

      I learnt my lesson though.

No more pets in this heat.

      October 25th:

The wind gives me the shits.

It feels like a giant bloody blow dryer!

And it's as hot as hell.

The air conditioner is on the blink and the AC repairman charged $200 just to drive over and tell me he needed to order parts.

      October 30th:

Been sleeping outside by the pool for 3 nights now.

Bloody $450,000 house and we can't even go inside.

Why did I ever come here?

      November 4th:

      It's 35C degrees.

Finally got the ol' air-conditioner fixed today.

It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to 25C, but this bloody humidity makes the house feel like it's about 50C.

      Stupid repairman.

      I hate this bloody place.

      November 8th:

If another smartass says, "Hot enough for you today?" I'm going to throttle him.

      Bloody heat.

By the time I get to work the car's radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

      November 9th:

Tried to run some errands after work.

Wore shorts, and sat on the black leather seats in the ol' car... I thought my ass was on fire. I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs.

Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried ass, and baked cat.

      November 10th:

The weather report might as well be a bloody recording. Hot and sunny.

      Hot and sunny.

      Hot and sunny.

It's been too hot to do anything for 2 damn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week.

Doesn't it ever rain in this damn place?

Water rationing will be next, so my $2,000 worth of palms will dry up and blow into the bloody pool.

Even the palms can't live in this heat.

      November 14th:

      Welcome to HELL!!!

      Temperature got to 38 today.

Now the air conditioner in my car has gone.

The repairman came to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today, mate?"

My wife had to spend the $2,500 house payment to bail my ass out of jail for assaulting the repairman.

      Bloody Brisbane.

What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here?

Ask Jesse if it's time to launch a PLR, public domain, or original works on global warming? You think he'd be inclined to agree?

Not quite as bad as Arizona in the summer, Ron. Isn't that kind of temp normal down there for your summers? I thought Ausies got blasted in the summer as bad as Arizona or worse just by matter of fact.

The Northern Hemisphere is getting colder again - more ice at the poles than there's been since 1979 and temps that are like they were when I was a kid.

Try going to sleep when it's still 111 degrees outside at midnight in Phoenix, Arizona and you don't have air conditioning because the power went out!

    Been there, done that!

Now quit yer cryin' and go take a cold shower.

Back in '74, when I was out on the porch, drinkin' lemonade, I got a sudden chill.

Now mind you we had a freak heat wave that year, must have been 120 degrees and I was cookin' eggs on the sunny spot of the porch, when alla sudden, a huge blanket of snow fell on us.

Or maybe It was sleet, I couldn't rightfully tell without my glasses on. All I know is it was cold and not hot anymore and...

Sorry folks, grandma got ahold of my computer. She's just remembering the time she dozed off and fell into the fireplace and we put her out.

I felt your coldness too although I haven't seen nor touch a real snow. But one thing is sure, you've got to love the snow or face the consequences of being overwhelmed with "anger" in your heart. Love the things you hate, and it will give you warmth embrace in return. Got me?

I actually got to 43.2 C today (109.8 F) and will be 42 tomorrow. I am really looking forward to Saturday when only 38 C (100 F) is forecast.

It is a little too warm for the beach for me. The sand burns your feet!

Ron, I'm in Brisbane, not as hot as you but plenty warm enough. I usually run with my black and tan working kelpie, but he just won't go out in this weather. His black coat soaks up the heat and you could just about fry an egg on him.

I told Guinness about Jess's annoyance at having her gender mixed up, and he could really relate. He was referred to as "she" at dog club on Friday, even though the necessary equipment was nearly hanging to his heels!

Theresea, I loved that diary. I emigrated from Scotland as a child and arrived in Brisbane at the end of September. Baptism of fire, hehe.

Firstly, Jesse is a girl and gets very angry if people make a mistake like that and it is not a good idea to upset a German Shepherd. She is obviously far too cute to be male.[/QUOTE]
