Any predictions for the Eastern conference? Western Conference?

Phil Jackson is out - do you foresee the Lakers making headway into the finals this upcoming season?

Any thoughts on the east cost? Where do you see the season ending with this one?

I'm a die hard Knicks fan - but I'm realistic (given our current roster) - we're at least a seasons away from being "contenders". I'd be happy if we got a true center who has some scoring / rebounding abilities. If that happens, the Knicks might make it soon than anticipated.

Any thoughts?

The league just stopped a trade between my Lakers and the Hornets.

Chris Paul in exchange for Lamar Odum and Paul Gasol.

It was all but done and then the league jumped in a killed the deal.

    BTW,

    the league owns the Hornets.

The knicks were eyeing Chris Paul given that Billups is not what he used to be and there is no consistency with the guard rotation.

I gotta look up why they killed the deal. I'm hoping that the Knicks could grab Paul and a true center. ...

We'll see how this season winds up.

Looks like the Knicks are going to get that true center in Tyson Chandler. I was hoping my warriors would. Paul wants to play with his ex team mate Chandler but I can't see how the Knicks could afford Chandler, Paul, Carmelo and Amare.

Yep. The season starts the day after Christmas. I think it's 66 games.

Thanks Kurt. I think it's sad that my wife knew and I didn't.

Truth is, I haven't followed basketball since the last time the Knicks played
the Heat in a meaningful playoff game sometime in the early part of this
century. I'd have to look it up to find the exact year.

As a life long Nugget fan, I like what we got for Melo. IMO, Melo's the most over-rated player in the NBA. I think Mozgov and Gallo would have been a fair trade and all the other guys make it even better for the Nuggets.

Note to Tim: Tell your Warriors to keep their hands off of Nene!

    My prediction:

    Trumpets...

The Lakers will rediscover our heritage and come out of the west after winning a 5th and/or 7th deciding game in each playoff series before reaching the finals again - where we shall reclaim the crown that is rightfully ours.

    We shall protect and serve.

He was caught plotting against the realm and banishment is his punishment and besides Ron Artest can have more minutes on the floor.

          Liberator,

Such a wordsmith you are. LOL

It's true that the Lakers have been the achilles heel to the Suns Warriors for many years. And we've witnessed many phenomenal Laker teams in the past.

Mr. Bryant, Mr. O'Neill, Mr. Abdul Jabbar, Mr. Johnson and Mr. Rodman shall all go down as some of the greatest players ever to play, there is no doubt.

However, a dynasty has finally come to an end. With the absense of Coach Phil there is little hope they can bring things together. I forsee future problems with the team and Kobe eventually leaving. It shall never be the same again for at least the next 5 years as they rebuild. Remember, the curse still lives.

They may easily take my Suns out of the picture, if we even make it ( as you say ). But if we do meet at least we will not go down without a fight. My prediction: Lakers won't get past the West, let alone the East.

Good luck to You and Your Team,

LeBron has never deserved to be the REAL MVP. Just a whiner who blew it with the (supposed) most talented trio.

Rose was prematurely crowned, but long-term will be much better than LeBron.

I don't foresee the Lakeshow winning without getting either Paul/Howard (even with that, it MIGHT take time, but Kobe's played with both of them on teamUSA) and it doesn't look like a Paul/Howard trade is coming. I see Dallas going far again even though they lost both Chandler+Barea. We'll have to see what else happens before the season starts

Most teams could use another big body.

Of course he has never lived up to his draft status - but not everyone can and will.

As a friend of mine used to say...

        "He has 6 to give".

New Warrior coach Mark Jackson was a point guard so I'm sure he knows the X's and O's of the game but there's a lot more to coaching than just that.

I'm actually happy they got him. He will share time with Biedrins who is too skinny to cover the bigger centers. Plus, it's only a one year contract. He had a decent year last year.

I'm looking forward to the season. Clay Thompson is supposed to be a lights out type of shooter and can play defense on the larger guards in the league. Along with Monta Ellis and Stephan Curry, they are going to be an exciting and effective back court trio.

Oh man, it's gonna be a good season. Thank God they got the deal done.

Out East it's gotta be the Heat. I think this is the year LeBron takes it to that next level of maturity and dedication...hopefully no more self-inflicted head case playoff meltdowns. I like the Bulls and Knicks too but gotta go Heat.

Out West, Kobe is getting mad at Kupchak, and I'm not sure if that's good or bad for the Lakers. I'm not sure what their plan is right now. Mavs lost Chandler but are gaining Odom, which is a pretty good replacement part, so I think they'll be right there. I like the Clippers being sneaky good this year, and also the Rockets. San Antonio will probably be good in the regular season but not the playoffs (again). So this will be a bloodbath (per usual) but in the end I am gonna go crazy and pick the Clippers.

So then we have Heat vs. Clippers in the finals? Heat in a 4 game sweep.

    You heard it hear first!

Good ole Dallas doing what they're known to do. Get aging used to be stars to come in here for veteran presence. Way to go out and get the once great, offensively anyway, and now geriatric Vince Carter. Also, nice pickup with Mr. Kardashian, Lamar Odom. These are two guys I never would have thought to ever wear a Mavs jersey.

They're obviously just trying to stopgap the slide this year by releasing one of the main reasons you went all the way last year with our greatest center ever in Chandler. They also released arguably our second leading scorer before a season ending injury in Butler and also your backup point guard which is key seeing as you have 100 year old Jason Kidd who can't score and Roddy B, who can score but not much of anything else; much less what you think a point guard should, oh I don't know, pass and assist. It seems they're saving up for next year's big free agency class.

Now to the question of who wins each conference, I'd have to give it up to either Miami or New York in the East and it's anyone's game in the West. L.A., OKC, S.A., Dal, are probably the favorites although don't count out Portland and Memphis, although I think they have their work cut out for them.

I wouldn't sleep on my Nuggets...We won't win the championship, but we'll contend with just about anyone, assuming we can resign Afflalo.

Mozgov should be improved and with Nene and Galinari, we'll have a big, young backcourt.

    NBA Champs will be OKC.

Losing in 5 games, including losing games 3, 4, and 5 is not considered coming anywhere close to almost beating.

And as far as Dallas goes, obviously they weren't completely ready to open up the season. It happens every year with some teams and most this year weren't completely ready due to limited camps and preseason games. They even said it on tv that only Miami and OKC were more ready to go. After the first week, things will even out. Heck, they barely failed at cutting the final down to 8/9 points at the end. It's just going to take a couple of weeks for Odom, Carter, and West to get acclimated to Dallas' system and all playing together.

      Lebron deserves a championship????

I was one of his biggest supporters, although not so much after last years' debacle, and even I don't agree with that.

      IMHO...

He has to be at the right place at the right time and then the team has to "earn" that championship.

LeBron doesn't deserve anything but criticism. You leave and desert a city that's built it's hopes around you to go to a supposed 'dream team' and then you lose anyway by the more balanced team because he's too busy having mental issues in the 4th quarter of big games. He needs to grow up and realize that money and dream teams aren't everything. Be a stand up guy and be loyal to a team like some players are like Dirk and Nash and Kobe, etc.

Don't think so on the Lakers for a number of years. Kobe has 3 years left and they are really in need of a re-build. They will get Chris Paul within the next 2 years (Sterling is a pimp) and for a great start.

The Utah Jazz have have signed free-agent forward Josh Howard, the team announced Thursday.

Terms of the deal were not released.

Howard’s signing likely signals an end to the possibility of Andrei Kirilenko returning to the Jazz. Kirilenko is a free agent and currently playing in Russia.

Howard was limited to just 18 games with Washington last season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament. He averaged 8.4 points.

As LAKER Fan#1, I was a bit disappointed by what happened yesterday.

I began to get highly upset over the events that transpired yesterday but quickly decided it wasn't worth it.

    - A 11 point lead with about 3:30 to go and 6 point lead with less than 1 minute to go.

    As Dennis Green once said...

"We let them off the hook"

    - The new coach has already raised some concerns.

Why were these guys in the game ( Steve Blake, Josh McRoberts and Devin Ebank at crunchtime - the last 4 minutes - instead of Ron Artest and Derick Fisher?

I sure hope the coach learned his lesson.

Laker GM Kupcheck should have hired a Laker - either Byron Scott or Michael Cooper as our new head coach instead of whatshisname.

    Missed Call By The Zebras:

That up & down call should have been made.

This is twice the league has conspired to harm the Lakers.

I now know the anti-Laker fix is in, and despite it, we shall have to overcome the extra obstacles placed before us by the enemies of the realm.

    Another concern...

Is Pau Gasol really committed to the Lakers - after we tried to trade him???

    I suspect he is not.

    Evidence...

2 missed free throws, a stupid foul that lead to a 3 point play, letting Mr. Rose make that shot over him, and lack of hustle on a critical play did not help our cause.

    BTW...

I hope we meet the Chicago Bull*hi* in the Finals.

All The Best ( even if you're not an enlightened Laker fan ),

I'm telling ya...Better not sleep on my Nuggets. We just whipped the defending champs Mavs in Dallas by 22, after leading by as many as 33 in the 4th quarter.

We are tall, fast, unselfish and very deep. And in this strange season with so many back to backs, don't under-estimate the importance of being deep.

Congrats Tim on your first victory and bringing Chicago back down to Earth.

Looks like Mr. Curry has bulked up a bit.

Meanwhile, my Lakers start the season at 0-2.

Thanks TL. They needed that one. Curry may have added some muscle but he still has bad ankles, even after off season surgery. Two sprains in the last week! :/

Don't worry about it, my Mavs are 0-2 also. Good teams don't stay down for too long. I actually like L.A. second behind Dallas, but Dallas by far first. Older teams just start slower. Plus Dallas has new players that need to adjust and gel and L.A. has a new coach in Brown, that has to adapt to the new team as well. I bet within a couple of weeks, these funks will inevitably end. I don't see Dallas and L.A. missing the playoffs this season at all.

Older teams will be hurting this year...This isn't a typical season and there's a lot more back to backs than in "normal" seasons. Look for the older teams to not do quite as well as expected due to tired legs from all the back to backs they have to play.

    3. Once again I won't watch more than 5 minutes of any game, because:

Possibly, but I once read an interview with an NBA ref years ago in Sports Illustrated and he talked about how it was their (the refs) "duty" to make the stars, or make the stars look good, I forget the exact words. He as much as admitted that certain players get more leeway.

It's the favoritism certain stars and certain teams get that turned me away from the game. The players and teams aren't on a level playing field, IMO.

They looked amazing in their first game but I guess only time will tell. Only team that has truly impressed me thus far is a) the Warriors and b) whoever wings Nugs/Blazers tonight! Go Blazers!

The Blazers "should" win this game. They are at home, rested last night while the Nuggets played last night and have to travel to play on the road.

The Blazers play their first 3 at home, the Nuggets play 2 on the road, 1 at home.

I will say this, I LOVE watching this Nugget team. They play the right way and are fun to watch. After all those "Melo" years of watching the ball just stop and watching one player go one on five, seeing a team that runs and wants to pass is a great change.

    Lakers shutdown Knicks 99-82 to raise our record 2 2 & 2.

The Knicks haven't defeated the Lakers since February 2007 - 9 meetings in a row.

Bryant has averaged 34 points against the Knicks during that span ... The Lakers shot 23-for-32 in the first half, their highest shooting percentage in a half in 13 years.

The Lakers made 77 percent of their shots in the second half against Orlando in March 1999.

Yesterday was the anniversary of the patent for the breakaway rim - forced into creation by Darryl Dawkins and his copycats.

Dawkins also set an NBA record for fouls in a season (386 in 1983-84), and he never quite lived up to the expectations that had been heaped upon him when he was...

... drafted out of high school.

Here's how he described the first of his glass breaking dunks...

    The Chocolate-Thunder-Flying, Robinzine-Crying, Teeth-Shaking, Glass-Breaking, Rump-Roasting, Bun-Toasting, Wham-Bam, Glass-Breaker-I-Am-Jam.

Three weeks later he did it again.

A few days after that the NBA ruled that breaking a backboard was an offense that would result in a fine and suspension.

He was traded by a talented 76'er team to help make room for Moses Malone and never won an NBA ring.

Dr. Dunkenstein claimed to be an alien from the planet Lovetron where he spent the off-season practicing...

... "interplanetary funkmanship" and where his girlfriend Juicy Lucy still lived.

His first wife committed suicide while he was on the road and now Darryl is married with 4 kids.

    More on DD...

Was he ever on the 76ers with Moses and Caldwell Jones at the same time?

And...I like my Nuggets chances on Saturday.

It will be the first of who knows how many meetings this year.

Normally they play teams in their own division at least 5 times and I think 4 times for members of the same conference and only 2 times verses teams from the other conference.

I hope we play at least 3 times so that there can be a rubber match if necessary.

Who knows, perhaps we'll meet in the playoffs.

After careful evaluation, IMHO, the Mavs were nothing more than a flash in the pan as everything jelled for them at the right time, ( a one off ) ...

...but they will not even come out of the west this season.

Mark Cuban's really enjoying his championship ( have you seen the commercial? )...

...and he should cause it ain't gana happen again - anytime soon - unless they get Dwight Howard next season.

The Thunder may take us to 7 games this time but they're not ready for prime time just yet.

No one else can stop us from coming out of the west as we still have 4 of the top 100 players in the NBA and they will be like a well oiled machine by the time the playoffs begin.

    My Prediction:

Lakers come out of the west and dispose of whoever the east ( Chicago or Miami ) sends to the finals in 7 games for our 17th world title - tying us with the Men In Green for the most NBA titles.

With his 6th title Kobe supersedes Magic to become the Greatest Laker Ever.

Well...We now know the Nuggets are (at least) the equals of the Lakers. Both games of the back to back between the two teams were carbon copies...Tie game with about 4 minutes left, the home team makes the plays down the stretch to win.

I fet Bynum was the best player on the court in the two games. But the Lakers couldn't handle the speed of Ty Lawson.

And Meta Tag was just about useless....

Man, John Wall does not look good right now. Are the Wiz already done for the year? I'm wondering mostly because I own a John Wall autographed card, and I want him to end up as a HOFer so that card will be worth money. :-). But the way it is looking, he just doesn't have the will to become a great player so I should probably sell now...anyone wanna talk me out of it? (Or buy it, lol!)

I didn't argue that it wasn't, TL. I just don't have any respect nor much tolerance for the favoritism. Fair is fair, and favoritism isn't. It's tough enough to compete against the best players in the world, but when you have to compete against them AND the officiating, it's just not right.

I'm not sure "Meta World Peace" is still in the top 100. He's looking a bit old out there sometimes. I'll give you Kobe and Gasol as all star caliber players. Bynum either can't stay healthy or his antics are getting him in trouble.

As for Dallas. They just blasted the 5-0 Thunder in Dallas. The slow start can be blamed on just not being ready. But you also have to look at the fact that Dallas added 4 new players. That's 1/3 of the team. Lamar Odom, Vince Carter, Delonte West, and Brandon Wright have to adjust to their new system here in Dallas and gel with the rest of the team. That usually takes a week or two and then they'll be back to their winning ways.

I'm not predicting them to be number 1 or 2 seed or necessarily make the Finals, but I'll say they're still a force in the West once they get rolling. Odom needs to play more than 20 minutes. He's only played that many once so far in 6 games. 2-4 record can be salvaged.

The heat looks very well this season and if they all stay healthy and continue to improve there team chemistry and now they have there fast break going very well they will be a very tough Championship contender.

The Bulls looks pretty good also and D-Rose still has a lot to show us plus the addition of Rip Hamilton makes me more excited and looking forward for them in the finals these year.

The defending Mavs are still good contenders these season but the addition of VC and minus Chandler in my opinion is not such a good move.

Here's a name for you: Kenneth Faried.

He's a rookie for the Nuggets. He doesn't get many minutes because the Nuggets are very deep and George Karl doesn't play rookies.

But this kid is a player. He's the NCAA's all time leading rebounder. He's the quickest jumper I think I've ever seen. Think Dennis Rodman that can jump and with a great attitude. He's the kind of kid that's easy to root for...I just hope he can get some more playing time this year. But sometime soon it will be impossible to keep him out of the lineup.

        Funny, funny, funny.

        Isn't Kwame Jordans' bust???

Kwame ran roughshod over those high school kids and needed at least a couple years in the college ranks but he went straight to the pros and the rest is history.

        BTW...

I'm pretty sure we meet the Warriors very soon.

Faried (aka Manimal) also had 4 rebounds and 4 block shots, including a blocked dunk attempt, in 10 minutes.

Plus, he hit two clutch free throws to give everyone tacos. Taco Bell has a promo...If the Nuggets score 110 points in any game, you get 4 tacos for a dollar. When the Nuggets approach 110, the crowd starts chanting "We want tacos! We want tacos!". It's become sort of a running joke with Nugget fans.

Faried isn't a great free throw shooter, but he hit both free throws with about 10 seconds left to give the Nuggets 110 points. The crowd went wild. LOL

So...When I refer to "taco time" for a game, it means I believe the Nuggets will score 110 or more points.

This is my favorite Nugget team in 25 years, since the Alex English/Fat Lever teams. I love watching these guys play.

And good morning to the NY Knicks...How's Carmelo working out for ya?

The Warriors used to have a similar promo Kurt, but the prize was a personal Pizza from Pizza Hut. I'm not sure if they still have them since it's been a while since I have seen a game in person. I know I have eaten quite a few Pizzas in the past though.

I like the Nuggets this year also. Very deep and well coached. I'm not a big Anthony fan either. He has great talent but has to get a lot better at being a real leader and team player.

Be wary of the Lakers early record. I think the Lakers have played 9 home games and 4 road games, not counting the Clippers game. Same with San Antonio...They've played a ton of home games so far.

I use the Doug Moe method for true standings:

I thought this thread was going by way of the death march for awhile there. Since it's back and running. Did you guys really have any doubts early on that Dallas was done. 7-1 since their dismal 1-4 start. Tonight, we have the Lakers at Staples for the special MLK day performance. TL, I hope, but rather know you will be watching as Mr. Kardashian comes back to town.

Since we're playing both Lakers teams at Staples, could you say that we're in the battle for L.A. as well?

Oh and I almost forgot, let's see how the Western Conference's best scoring defense does (Dallas - 89.7 ppg, down from a starting 105 ppg.)

No, you do not have the right to compete in The Battle For LA.

The Battle For Texas should be enough for you. ( It's a threesome )

I knew the game was coming on but I forgot all about it.

Looks like I'm going to have to leave myself notes - from now on.

Lakers pull out 73-70 victory as Derick Fisher hit winning 3pointer.

Warm welcome for Lamar Odum from the Laker faithful.

I'm glad he was only 4 of 12 from the field as I know he wanted to play well to make a point or two.

I have the feeling we'll see Dallas again in the playoffs.

Kevin Love is a beast! Why is he not talked about in the top 10 NBA players, possibly top 5? Let's be honest, most people have a combination of these guys in the top 10 (ESPN especially)

    Kevin Durant
    Lebron James
    Kobe Bryant
    Dwyane Wade
    Dwight Howard
    Derrick Rose
    Dirk Nowitzki
    Chris Paul

Why is the 2nd leading rebounder and a guy that gets a double-double 95% of his games not in the top 10? I believe he is also top 10 in scoring...

Blake Griffin (who Kevin Love and the Timberwolves recently beat) is also destroying him in All-Star voting. Blake Griffin is NOT that good. All he can do is Alley-oops and insane dunks. Griffin is not a good defender and how no jump shot. Kevin Love is a 36% 3pt shooter (better than Kobe), 2nd in rebounding, and puts up more points.

      Love >> Griffin in points
      Love >> Griffin in rebounds

After losing 3 in a row...

Kobe's 12 4th period points help Lakers pull out 96-91 win in the 2nd "Battle Of LA" meeting to even the season series at 1 game each.

    Notes:

While M. World Peace was in the lineup for aprox. 38 minutes, the Lakers outscored the Clippers by 20 points.

It got quite chippy out there.

    Hey TL...

You better watch my Nuggets. Just won their 5th straight road game, beating Sacramento by 30 points. And...the Nugs played without their starting C (Mosgov), starting 2 (Aflalo) and starting 1 Ty Lawson left the game early in the 2nd quarter with a sprained ankle. Our 7th man Rudy Fernandez also didn't play.

Basically, 4 of our top 7 players didn't play, and we still won by 30 points on the road. I'm telling you, this team is deep and plays like a team.

And...Did you notice we have the 2nd best record in the West?

Just finished watching the last period and the OT as my Lakers dusted off the Men In Green in Boston 88-87.

    Kobe had 27...

... and fellow Western Conference all star starter...

... Andrew Bynum had 16 points and 17 rebounds.

Pau Gasol finished with 25 points, 14 rebounds and a key block on Ray Allen at the end of the game to seal the victory.

    - We snapped a 2 game losing streak and break their 5 game winning streak.

    - We've beaten them 4 games in a row and 5 of the last 6 we've met.

    Lakers now at 15-11

I witnessed a young Golden State team fall to the TraillBlazers 93-91 as Gerald Wallace and Jamal Crawford hit big 3ptrs to help Portland pull away at Golden State.

    Question???

Why on Earth did coach Mark Jackson sit Montel Ellis for most of the 2nd half in favor of Nate Robinson???

Sure Robinson had a good game off the bench but no Montel in crunch time???

I was wondering that also TL. The reason given by Jackson is that Monta was not feeling well yesterday:

“It really wasn’t a decision (not to play him) due to anything other than the fact that he hadn’t been feeling well all day long,” coach Mark Jackson said.

Jackson said Ellis wasn’t able to participate much at the team’s morning shootaround, and the coach almost sent the shooting guard home.

“He didn’t want to go home,” Jackson said. “He’s a gamer. He’s a leader.”

Ellis went back to the locker room briefly in between the third and fourth quarters. When he got back to the bench, Jackson asked Ellis if he was OK.

“He said, ‘Yes,’” Jackson said. “But it wasn’t the normal Monta Ellis yes. … I just made the decision that was best, to shut him down. Nate (Robinson) was playing well, but that doesn’t matter.

“In a normal situation, I’m going back to Monta Ellis.”

You guys beat my Nuggets last night badly...But we were playing without our starting front court...Nene, Gallinari and Mosgov were all out.

I believe those 3 guys are our strength. That's 7'1 6'11 and 6'10 and all 3 can run. There aren't many teams that can match up with that.

Lakers hold off defending champs 96-91 - in Big D.

When LA was up 91-84 with about 1:05 to go...

    ... I said to myself...

"All we have to do is score at least 2 more points - the rest of the way and we should win this game"

Much to my chagrin, the Lakers proceeded to miss 7or 8 fouls shots in a row - down the stretch.

The defending champs closed to 91-89 with 20 ticks remaining before the Lakers...

... scored a point as Matt Barnes secured a offensive rebound and then proceeded to hit these 2 free throws to seal the win.

Pau lead the way with 24 points with 11 of 18 from the field.

Kobe was way off but made some very nice ally-oop type passes under encapsulating double teams in the 4th.

His age is starting to show and he's having a great time on the court, talking and smiling almost all the time.

I'm have the feeling that his turnovers are up compared to previous years.

    - I don't know why Matt Barnes is always in a jovial mood.

    - Let Fisher play as much of the 4th as possible - especially down the stretch.

    - Matt Barnes & Meta should play most of the 4th so that our crunch time line up should be...

    - Kobe
    - Gasol
    - Bynum
    - Fisher
    - Meta or Matt Barnes

Lakers shot 31 foul shots and the defending champs only shot 16 - in Big D.

We held them to 40% from the field.

Lakers outscored TDCs by 14 points ( love the +/- stat ) while Bynum was in the game as he contributed another double double with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

    Lakers now 20-13.

Next stop OKC. ( who destroyed the Men In Green tonight )

No doubt they believe they are on a mission to royally serve the cream of NBA franchises on two consecutive nights.

I'm betting the Lakers will have a surprise for the young-ins.

    Other NBA news...

    Saw highlights of the Linster...

... it looks like the game has slowed down for him.

I he keeps the turnovers down, I see about a 15 point average 8 assist, 10 year career ahead of him.

My Warriors finally won a couple close games, which they have been losing all year. Monta Ellis had missed 5 straight game ending shots that would have either won or tied a game before draining one to win a couple nights ago.

Two interesting games tonight: Knicks/Heat and Lakers/Thunder. I'll be pulling for the Thunder and Knicks of course.

I too look forward to tonight's match ups.

Both games will be on TNT!!!!

Not much to say after last night's drubbing at the hands of OKC 100-85.

The game was closer than the final score indicated as we trailed by 6-9 points most of the 2nd half.

Our defense was good but our offense was unavailable.

Low scoring 2nd and 3rd periods helped seal our doom.

Durant torched us going 12-24 for 33 points.

Another off shooting night for Kobe (7-24).

    Bynum goes 5-15.

Pau had another good night of 22 points on 9-14 from the field.

After the All Star break we can pad our stats with vics over Minn and Sac but then we face Miami who destroyed the Knicks last night.

Lakers dust off undermanned Heat 93-83 after leading most of the game in sunny LA.

Lebron was d'eed up by World Peace as he only went something like 5 for 17 when Meta guarded him.

Kobe torched the hacker Wade ( 18 pts in 1st period ) ...

...who broke his nose during the All Star game as Wade was boo'd every time he touched the ball and cheered when he fouled out with about 5 mins remaining.

Kobe went a very efficient 14 of 23 from the field and when he does we're very hard to beat.

Since 2000, I'm sure the Lakers have lost 75% of their televised Sunday afternoon games but today it was a different story.

Last night played without injured starters:
    Nene
    Galinari
    Mosgov (1/2 the game)

    Backups:
    Rudy Fernandez

    Backup center (should replace Mosgov):
    Kosta Koufas

...And we still beat the Spurs IN San Antonio leading wire to wire.

It looks like we may get all our players back in the next week or so. Watch out western division.

PS...Yesterday was the 50th aniversary of Wilt's 100 point game.

People talk about it being unbreakable, and it may be. But if there is an unbreakable NBA record, it has to be Wilt averaging over 50 a game for an entire season. Kevin Durant just had the first 50 point game of his career a few weeks ago, to put Wilt's record in perspective.

Lakers lose to the Wizards 106-101 in the 2nd game of a road back-to-back.

    But that's no excuse.

    The Wizards????

I live right outside of the district and every other year the family enjoys the Lakers live when they come to play the Wizards.

I'm glad we didn't spend around $600 for tickets and go to that game fully draped in the Laker royal purple & gold.

( At least 1/3 of the crowd is always adorned in purple & gold at the Wizard-Laker games )

It would have been extra embarrassing and a humiliation - in public cause the Wizard fans would've gave us the business.

Thanks Kobe for going a Allen Iverson like 9 of 31 from the field.

If you're not having a good shooting game why not concentrate on other aspects of the game?

But I guess Kobe is determined to lead the lead in scoring - come hell or highwater.

What a waste of a game that should have gone in the win column.

After the Lakers were down 94-89 with 2:37 remaining...

Lakers score final 8 points of game to take out The Men In Green in Lala Land.

That's 3 straight vs. our hated rivals and 2 in a row on Sundays!

Kobe had 10 in the 4th as he shot a smart 9 of 20 from the field for a total of 26 points - below his league leading average of about 30.

Lakers outscored the Celts by 10 points with Matt Barnes playing only 17 minutes as he went 3 for 3 from the field.

Once again Meta shut down Paul Pierce.

Lakers now at 25-16 after disastrous trip but have still won 7 of last 10 games but only 7-14 on the road.

I don't think all the blame should be on Melo. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan of his, but I think another reason is Jeremy Lin coming back down to earth and looking more like a slightly improved version of the player the Warriors had last year. Lin still has a lot of potential but he isn't an all star yet.

          Hey Tim...

I'm not saying it's all Melo. Much of it has to do with Lin's first games being against weak teams. Lately, the Knicks have been playing strong teams, and we see the results.

My point is Melo doesn't help win games like everyone thinks he does. He's also "anti-chemistry". Before he got to the Knicks. Amare was being considered for MVP.

With Melo out, Lin was breaking records for points in his first career starts.

Simply, Melo doesn't help other players be better because he's what I call a "slow scorer"...Instead of being decisive and make a move in a couple of seconds, he's got to have the ball forever to make a play. And scoring is all he does.

BTW, the Knicks are now 2-8 since Melo returned...While the losing isn't all his fault, no one can give him credit for helping the Knicks win. And he isn't a top 10 NBA player for sure.

Mello reminds me of another "slow scorer" one Adrian Dantly.

AD ( whom I've met along with the guy who claims he taught AD everything he knows )

...would hold the ball forever before finally making his move.

Tuned in to the last 5 minutes and...

...watched Paul Pierce score 8 in a row in the final 3 minutes to put away the Clippers as Boston won 94-85 in the Staples Center.

No problem. The Warriors are driving me crazy again, by looking terrible for many games and then going on short runs of good play beating very good teams. They probably will be in their comfortable spot of not being good enough to make the playoffs, but not bad enough to get a shot at a high draft choice. :/

    Lakers trade Derrick Fisher.

Thanks for the many years of service and the big shots helping us win 5 titles.

Now it's Steve Blake and Ramon Sessions sharing point guard duties.

Sessions averaged 10 ppg and almost 6 apg with Cleveland this season.

The Lakers acquired Sessions and Christian Eyenga, who is expected to play for Los Angeles' D-League team, from the Cavaliers for veterans Luke Walton and Jason Kapono, clearing the Lakers' logjam of veteran small forwards who hadn't played much for Brown.

We also got backup big man Jordan Hill from Houston.

Hill, the disappointing eighth overall pick by New York in 2009, will get a chance to improve the Lakers' frontcourt depth.

We could use another big body.

The Lakers saved money in the deals, clearing Walton ($6.1 million) and Fisher ($3.4 million) off next season's books and shipping out two first-round draft selections who won't have to be paid next year.

The Lakers no longer have the NBA's highest payroll this season, but Kupchak said the Buss family won't shy away from making the Lakers better.

    Go Lakers!!

    Other news...

    - Knicks and Trailblazers let their coaches go.

    - Dwight Howard staying put for now.

    - Dallas assigned forward Lamar Odom to Texas D-League team.

    - Gerald Wallace comes back to the east coast for the Nets.

And the Nuggets trade Nene for 7 ft center Mcgee and Turiaf. I believe this was nothing more than a salary dump. Turiaf was cut immediately...The speculation is to create room for free agent Wilson Chandler.

I'll miss Nene. He's a really good guy. I just don't understand why you sign him to a big time contract, then trade him a few months later.

And good morning Coach D'Antoni...How do you like the Melo trade now?

Let me add...Part of the reason Nene was traded is the play of rookie Kenneth "Manimal" Faried....He's really starting to play well. Had 18 points and 16 rebounds tonight in a win against the Celtics on St. Patty's day.

And for his 18 points, Faried didn't miss a shot or free throw. He isn't a great scorer but gets his points on hustle and running the floor.

At the start of the season I posted to watch out for Faried and he's looking better all the time. The best part is, he's a great kid with a great attitude. He's easy to root for.

Watched most of Lakers serving the World Champs last night 109-93 with the Lakers leading since the middle of the 2nd period.

We've beaten them something like 13 of the last 16 times we've played - during the regular season but that's the regular season.

Since we started the season 14-12 we're now 15-6 for a season record of 29-18.

We've lost a bunch of games to teams like Utah.

New point guard Sessions had a big impact on the game as the Lakers outscored the Mavs by 28 points while he was in the game while going 7-8 from the field.

Kobe had 30 on a smart 11-18 from the field.

Seems like Kobe has decided it's easier to score after getting the ball after running around a screen or two instead of his normal tough iso game.

Pau had 27 on a spectacular 13-16 from the field.

Bynum only got off 5 shots for 9 points as the Mavs quickly doubled him every time he touched the ball and the Lakers still outscored the Mavs by 16 points while Andrew played.

Getting ready for the playoffs and we could use some consistency.

There is one thing you guys have going for you in the playoffs.

If you can make it to the Finals then it's either going to be the Bulls or Miami.

And with your big guys, you can exploit their weakness... their only weakness basically.

Lakers now at 33-20 on the season after beating a sprited Golden State team 120-112 and have won only 6 of last 10 games after losing to 2 or 3 sorry teams over the last 10 games.

We should have at least 37 or 38 wins by now as lots of breathing room on the Clippers.

Bynum hurts ankle only 12 minutes into the game.

Romon Sessions continues to prove his worth with 23 points on 7 of 10 from the field.

    T. Murphy plays 26 minutes and the Lakers outscore GS by 18 points while he's in the game.

    - Only 13 games remain until playoff time.

    - Linsanity out for season.

    - Celts blow out Miami in Boston.

    - OKC blows out a Derrick less Bulls team.

The Celtics EASILY beat the Heat in Miami! Two wins, back to back, against the Heat!! How can people say Lebron is the greatest player ever when he isn't even better than an old Kevin Garnett?

I'd hate to face the Celtics in the playoffs the way they are playing now. Doc Rivers is a great coach also. I remember hoping the Warriors would hire him many years ago before the Celtics did, but no....

Lakers rally from 17 down in 3rd to beat OKC 114-106 in double overtime!

Meta World Peace formerly known as Ron Artest...

... finally snaps and unleashes a ugly elbow on the potential 6th man of the year- James Hardin - knocking him out of the game.

You can see what happened here...

    Thunder at Lakers - NBA.com

I believe Meta will be suspended for at least 5 games.

OKC dynamic duo was dee'd up and went only 14 of 56.

Kobe comes alive in 4th with clutch 3 pointers late in the game as he went a horrible 9 of 26 and scored 26 points.

We received major, major contributions from Blake, Ebanks and new comer Hill all of whom played most of the second half.

Looks like we're a almost a lock for 3rd seed in the West and it looks like we'll be playing the defending NBA champs in the first round.

Lamar Odum didn't work out with the Mavs and was released a couple weeks ago.

    BTW

The Heat and the Bulls engaged last week and it got mighty chippy - often.

I see these two in the eastern conf finals.

Except...It's my Nuggets that are in the #6 slot at the moment...Which makes it the 9th straight year we've made the playoffs. Only Dallas and San Antonio have longer streaks.

I'd much rather play the Lakers than either the Spurs or OKC, no offense TL.

Although I did chuckle when I heard an "expert" say the Nuggets would struggle against the Lakers' height. BTW, the Nugs have three 7 footers and a 6'10" "small" forward.

The Lakers may win, but it won't be because they are taller.

The Lakers used to be the Show Time team. Now, they are looking to slow down the top young teams. I think the Lakers would love to play stall ball like they used to in college. Darn 24 second clock!:

Actually the great UCLA teams were also great a stall ball.

I'm glad there is a shot clock in the pros and with the youngsters.

Yea in the 80's we would simply run other teams off the court because we could but we could also go toe to toe with anyone.

Ask those Celtic teams of the 80's.

The first time we met them in the 80's was the one that got away.

They roughed us up, had two last second victories and then took game #7 with 51, that's 51 free throws.

The 2nd and 3rd time we met them in the 1980's we by design, beat them at their own half court game.

The Kentucky that just won the NCAA title reminded me of showtime.

They pushed the ball every chance they got and slowly but surely wore down and/or simply outscored their opponents.

That championship game against Kansas was amazing.

Now, we have to be as smart as possible and do whatever it takes to win.

If we play our best ball and Kobe shoots anything close to 50% instead of having those 9 of 25 games we can come out of the west.

His shot selection will be a big test of his leadership skills.

Nuggets at Thunder - April 25, 2012 - Game Preview, Play by Play, Scores and Recap on NBA.com

    Good luck.

Durant scores 32 in an attempt to secure his third straight NBA scoring title in his final game of the season.

Before last night's game Durant lead Kobe by 11/100 of a point for the scoring title.

I think Kobe must score at least 35 points in his final game of the season verses Sacramento.

Since the 3rd seed is all sowed up for the Lakers, I expect Kobe to play and shoot at least 40 times to make sure he wins the scoring title.

I believe tonight is the last night of the regular season.

Wow! The warriors got lucky. See, they made a BAD trade a few years ago that included this years #1 pick. If they finish with the 8th pick or lower after the lottery, they don't get a #1 pick. So, it's been a race to the bottom for the last half of the season. With Curry injured, Monta Ellis traded for the injured Andrew Bogot, and David Lee out for the season it looked like a cinch to get to the bottom. Well, they lost 22 of their final 28 games, but still tied with Toronto for the 7th worst record. Today, they WON a coin flip!!! Yeehaw! haha. So, they have a 72.4% chance of keeping their #1 pick! Ahh. It doesn't get much better than this for a Warrior fan. lol.

The top seven prospects ( perhaps )

Anthony Davis, Kentucky (6-10,220) — PF
      Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky (6-7, 232) — SF
      Bradley Beal, Florida (6-3, 207) — SG
Thomas Robinson, Kansas (6-10, 237)— PF
      Andre Drummond, UConn (6-10, 270)— C

It was a fun game to watch...Durant got the "shooters roll" on that last basket.

I hate seeing injuries affect teams, especially this time of year. The Bulls will probably be OK this series, but that's about it.

And good morning Knicks fans...I see my man Melo went 3-15 for 11 points, "leading" the Knicks to 67 total points.

    Lakers shut down Nuggets 103-88.

    - Ty Lawson stymied as his lack of points - only 7 instead of almost 17, was the difference in the game.

    - I discovered the Nuggets have scored more points in the paint than any other NBA team.

    And so...

    - Bynum ties NBA record and sets new Laker record with 10 blocks and a triple double.

    - Kobe shoots a smart 11-24 on his way to 31 points as the Lakers controlled most of the game.

    - Steve Blake's 3 pointers in the 2nd period sent us on our way as he joined 6 other Lakers in double figures.

    - As I predicted earlier this year, the Lakers beat the Nuggets 3 of 4 time they met in the regular season.

    - BTW, Denver appeared listless and seemed to have stage fright and it's hard to beat anyone shooting only 35% from the field.

Let's get this over with asap because we'll need all the rest we can get.

    BTW...

    - Clippers came back from 27 down to beat Grizzlies 99-98.

    - Celts defense does a great job verses the Hawks but offense was nonexistent losing 83-74.

    - Chicago is in big trouble as Rose goes down for playoffs after tearing ACL after another one of his famous "jump steps" doesn't go so well.

I believe the "jump step" is illegal and is an up/down violation but for some reason some players have gotten away with it once it was created.

IMHO, you can not leave the ground and land without first shooting or passing the ball.

Well this time it was the Chicago MVP's undoing...

... and unless one of the big three of Miami also gets hurt I have no doubt who will represent the east in the finals for the 2nd year in a row.

Just watched the last 5 minutes of OKC holding off the defending champs again.

Mavs came from 16 down in 2nd to take the lead in the closing minutes.

But the youngsters held on and are now up 2-0.

Bottom line, the Mavs must steal at least 1 game from OKC in OKC to win the series.

    They're getting closer and closer.

The young boys were cool from the line hitting 37 of 39 free throws.

    BTW,

Miami takes care of Knicks again to go up 2-0.

Rumors are Stotamire broke his hand in the dressing room after the game.

Tonight we face the Nuggets in game #2 at 10:30 eastern.

I'm looking forward to us going up 2-0.

Barkley commented on what he perceived as Denver's lack of playoff intensity in game #1.

    I hope it continues.

Good luck to your team tonight unless it's Denver.

I woke up just in time to see the Lakers spurt from 36-34 to a 9 point lead in the 2nd.

It's now 55-48 at the half.

I didn't know Denver was the leading scoring team in the league.

        Hold on fellows!

        BTW,

Philly takes out a Roseless Bulls ballclub 109-102 to even the series.

Could a upset be in the making???

Celts beat the Hawks without Rondo 87-80.

I wouldn't be surprised if Celts win this series.

Yeah...We led the NBA in scoring with our leading scorer (Ty Lawson) averaging about 16.5?

It's a tough game...Does Kobe EVER get a call against him?

PS..I give my Nuggets credit for not giving up. Were down by 19 and have fought back to make it 5 as I type this.

We didn't play well, but we played hard and didn't give up. The Nuggets generally do play "the right way" and I've really enjoyed watching them this year.

The thing with the Nuggets is they can get cold from the outside and they did tonight and couldn't hit a 3 to save their life.

    That was scary.

Lakers go up on Nuggets 2-0 as Kobe explodes for 38 on 14-29 from the field.

    Bynum chips in with 27!

BTW, Kobe is #2 on the all time NBA list of 30 point games in the playoffs - second to Jordan.

Kurt you're right, you don't give up.

It was scary how fast you guys could make up points and now I understand why Denver is the highest scoring team in the league.

Afflalo didnt' shoot well, but I thought he played Kobe very well, despite Kobe getting 38. Kobe didn't have many open shots, he was just hitting with a hand in his face.

And good morning Melo...Way to lead your team to an NBA record 13 straight playoff game losses...(Although Melo has only been around for 7 if them.) You go Superstar!

Looks like Miami's path is now very clear and they should get a lot of rest before the finals.

No one in the east should take them to 7 games like maybe Chicago could have.

So Miami easily beats the Knicks. Big surprise. Charles Barkley then says anyone who watched this game can see that lebron James is the best player in the world. "By Far!". So what were James' stats against the mid level Knicks in this game, which was actually close until the 4th quarter? 9-21 FG, 8RB, 5 assits, and 8 turnovers! That's the best player in the league? By far!?

You know what? Don't say anyone is the best player until they have won a Championship! Something Barkley doesn't know anything about in the NBA.

After being down by 27, Lakers close to within 6 in middle of third.

That Lawson dude is a problem as Nuggets outscored Lakers by 23 points when he was in in game and when Mcgee was in the game Nuggets outscored the Lakers by 30!

Thanks Kobe for going 7-23 from the field.

Ty Lawson may be the fastest player with the ball in the NBA. His biggest problem is he's too "nice" and unselfish. When he gets aggressive, he's hard to stop.

Plus...Faried and Mcgee combined for 30 rebounds, 15 each. And I'm still waiting for Galinari and Afflalo to get hot.

Lakers starters need to pick it up, because the Nugget bench is killing the Laker bench.

It's hard to beat the Lakers scoring only 88 points when we score only 92.

This is the 2nd time in four game Nuggets held to under 90 points.

-Laker bench the key as Steve Blake drops 8 timely points in the fourth as Denver forced him to take some big shots and he answered the bell.

-Jorden Hill ( now I know why he was the 8th pick in last years's draft, )

......adds a double double of 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Laker bench chips in with 26 points.

Great game as it was nip and tuck all the way through with 18 lead changes and the game was tied 16 times.

May as well finish them off in game 5 back in LA so we can be well rested for the young upstarts from the land of OKC.

I think you're right. The Spurs are playing good ball. You gotta give Popovich credit with what he's done with an aging team. Stephen Jackson was a good addition also. I don't think anyone else would want the guy because of his attitude but he fits in with this team, which he helped win a Championship a few years ago.

George Karl combined with the Lakers getting hot from 3pt line almost lost this game for the Nugs. Up by 15 with 6:30 left, Karl tells Nuggets to slow it down. Big mistake.

Javale Mcgee and Andre Miller lead Nuggets in scoring, both bench players. And I thought Mcgee out-played Bynum for the 2nd game out of the last 3.

Back to Denver for game 6...

Yeah...Andre had a great game. Not only did he come through in the clutch, he made Mcgee better. Miller is great to watch. The guy can't jump two inches, is slow as can be, yet he produces using smarts and fundamentals.

In Harrington's defense, he's hurt and probably shouldn't be playing. He tore the meniscus in his knee the last week of the regular season.

No matter what happens in the next game, the Lakers will have been in a series. Other than the first game, one could make a case that the Nuggets have out-played the Lakers.

IMO, the difference has been the Lakers' experience. The Nuggest are the second youngest team in the NBA, and have the youngest starting 5. Miller and Harrington are the only players with any age/experience. I just hope they'll keep this team together for a few years and let them gel together.

Thanks for getting on my nerves Lakers.

Now we have to win game #6 in Denver or God forbid game #7 in LA.

I wanted us to get this over with asap but I never thought we were a 5 game series better than the Nuggets.

We could have used the rest for OKC but now the worst is highly possible.

    Thanks for giving them hope.

I beseech the Lakers to spare me the indignity.

            Actually, I did not.

I couldn't take my normally scheduled nap, around 6pm, and therefore my body conked out about 10:00. ( I'm up every morn at 06:00 )

What upsets me a little is how the national sports scene has acted like it's all because the Lakers haven't given their best. None of them have said that it might be that the Nuggets are just as good, if not better.

Players like "Manimal" Faried has outplayed Gasol and Ty Lawson has dominated Sessons. Both Mosgov and Mcgee have given Bynum problems.

The Nuggets are very deep and have 10-11 players that can play. Every game it's a different player or two stepping up for us.

The truth is, the Nuggets have outplayed the Lakers after game 1. Had the Lakers not stolen a game or two, this series would be over.

And people bring up Metta Tag not playing...We're playing without Rudy Hernadez and Wilson Chandler, two of our top 8 guys, and two of our better outside shooters. We'd go 12-13 deep if they were playing. And I think we would have been a top 4 seed had we not had so many injuries this year.

The Lakers may win, and they should at home, but I'm conviced the Nuggets are at least their equal.

I'm a die hard Knicks fan - but I'm realistic (given our current roster) - we're at least a seasons away from being "contenders". I'd be happy if we got a true center who has some scoring / rebounding abilities. If that happens, the Knicks might make it soon than anticipated.

    Well...

I watched the movie Haywire with the kid and then...

I tuned in at the 10 minute mark of the 3rd period just before the Lakers went on a run and Denver, (much to my chagrin ) went on their run.

I was getting angry but then I remembered my pledge to not get angry and said to myself just enjoy the game.

( besides, my right thigh was getting sore from me slapping it - so that had to stop that also )

    Big bottom line...

Laker bigs come through big time.

    BTW...

If we had hit more of our foul shots, especially and even while Denver was making that 3rd period run, our cushion would have been 5 or 6 instead of Denver going ahead in the early 4th.

    - Bigs Gasol & Bynum combine for 20 offensive rebounds!

    BTW...

No two starting bigs in NBA playoff history have combined for...

    - 35 rebounds
    - 20 offensive rebounds ***
    - 10 blocked shots
    - 40 points

    - Steve Blake was forced into glory going 7-11 from the field and 5 of 6 from 3 point land for a unpredictable 19 big points.

    - Meta and Blake combine for 9 of 20 from 3 point land.

    - Meta deed up Gallinari and Andre Miller to the tune of 3 of 23 from the field.

    - Meta serves up a 18 point difference when he was in the game for 43 minutes.

    - Denver doubled Kobe almost every time and forced other Lakers to step up and hit some shots - and we did.

    - Size beats speed this time.

    - Kobe hits a big 3 and slaps five with Justin Timberlaker on the way up court.

    - With the game in hand...

... Kobe jokes with TV commentator Steve Kerr telling him that with these double-teams even he could still play in today's game.

    Kurt,

Hats off to your Mountain Dwelling Nuggets.

They are an irritatingly scrappy bunch that does not know when to stay down.

We expended a lot of energy in order to win this series.

    But...

I look forward to this season being one of the more glorious Lakers campaigns in our illustrious history, capping Kobe's career with our 17th world title.

    Next to yield, OKC.

Heat prevail over Pacers without Chris Bosh.

He may be back after for the conference finals if the Heat get there.

Lakers visit the upstarts OKC tonight.

Hopefully OKC will be rusty tonight and we can steal this game since we have to steal at least one game in OKC to win the series anyway.

Meta meets James Harden again tonight and it should be most interesting.

If we can shut down at least one of their big three in every game, we have a shot.

    Massacre at OKC:

Reminded me of the Memorial Day massacre we suffered at the hands of the Men In Green back in the 1980's.

Weird, ugly game. Durant tried to hit the rim on the second free throw at the end and shot an air ball! Haha.

It was very generous that OKC gave the Lakers the opportunity to win one game in this series. That's it though. Two more wins and the sweep is on, Jack Nicholson, the Kardashians and TL notwithstanding.

    Gentlemen...

Lakers crumble in final 2 minutes.

Leading by 7 at that 2 minute mark, I remarked that all we need is just 1 more basket or just 2 free throws in this last 2 minutes and then it would be real hard statically, for us to lose.

I was happy as a lark.

Fortunately, I'm not the type to throw things when I get angry.

If I had been The Mighty Hulk, I doubt my block would have been left standing.

I would have at least picked up and slammed my basements', 61 inch, Sony, 10 year old projection, HD Ready & Active , Square Screen, re-sized to accommodate Widescreen, now down to a 55 inch widescreen with 3 sound systems:Big Bose CD Player on top of TV, Surround Sound, with the TV's speakers all going through a sound altering device called the Xpander.

It can take a two speaker system and turn it into what sounds like surround sound.

Anyways, my reaction to the final 2 minutes of the game is funny now...

... but it wasn't funny then.

Now, I know what it feels like to be an "Watcher Of Basketball Disintegration". To watch my team crumble and then lose for no reason.

( Inspired by a scene in Rush Hour 2 or 3 where French actor Daniel Atteualle playing a cab

driver says delightfully to Chris & Jackie...

"Now I know what it feels like to be a American, to kill for no reason". )

    He's a funny guy.

But's that's OK, we still have 2 more chances to beat them in OKC as long as we protect the homeland.

    I predict...

...The 2012 playoff season is going to remind me of the 1988? World Championship in which we had to win 3 7 game series to win the title.

Give me a minute to brag a little...Kenneth Faried was #3 for rookie of the year.

If you remember, I said he's the guy I wanted the Nuggets to draft at #21 (22?) in last year's draft and he got comparisons to Dennis Rodman for his rebounding.

I bet if they held the draft today, he'd be a top 5 pick. Looks like I got that one right.

I like both Faried and Thompson.

Faried is pure hustle (with hops) and Thompson is a pure shooter. I like watching players that hustle and/or can shoot. I think when shooters get on a real hot streak, it's a lot more entertaining than dunks.

It's amazing how different Klay is as a player than his dad was...

Your Warriors just need to figure out that when you're down, you don't trade good players. You try to add to them. You see it time and time again, bad teams think they'll somehow get better trading their best players.

Yep. The W's have done that over and over. Trading Ellis this year is a gamble, especially since Bogut has been injured so much. Now, they have two guys who are very injury prone: Bogut and Curry. I would have preferred them trading Curry for Bogut since Ellis is only a couple years older. We'll see though.

I understand "playoff defense", but these teams are missing wide open 15 footers.

No kidding. You know, making a basket is just as important as stopping one. I get how playing good defense is important in the playoffs, but you still need to score more than your opponent and making wide open 15 footers once in a while helps. Consistently also.

Looks like I had the OKC/Lakers series just right...

OKC was my preseason pick to win it all...But right now, the Spurs are the team to beat.

I'll take the Spurs in 6 over OKC. Then the Spurs will dominate whatever team comes out of the East, I'm guessing it will be Boston.

I have no idea how Lebron was declared the MVP... Kevin Durant is an absolute stunner. That guy has ice in his veins and performs his best when it matters! Not only that, but he's humble and lets his game do the talking. A true champion.

While everyone has been focused on the Heat, you have a potential dynasty developing in of all in places... OKC! Durant, Westbrook and Ibaka are all still in their early 20's.

I'm excited to see how this season plays out... It seems like the NBA Western Conference Finals are essentially the real NBA Finals.

Good lord the Celtics/76ers game is ugly! At the half Boston is shooting a blistering 37% while Philadelphia is not too far behind shooting 28%. :/ I really don't think it is the defense either. Or the shoes.

Like I said above...The 6ers should hire me because I can miss shots just as well as they do and I"ll do it a lot cheaper.

It seems none of the teams in the East can score...IMO the real championship series is the Spurs/OKC series.

Spurs win their 19th in a row, including 9 straight playoff games. They're looking tough. Reminds me of Moses Malone's "fo-fo-fo" 76er team.

Yeah, this is going to be a great series. I'd say OKC really never got into a rhythm and they still were in the game. SA really does know how to leverage what they have. Watching them is like watching a chessmaster in action. They always seem to find the open man and capitalize on easy baskets.

Looking forward to Boston/Miami tomorrow... I definitely want Boston to win, but then again... I'd love to see OKC prevail over Miami in the finals

They sure are playing well. I remember them going through long scoring droughts in the past but man are they playing good exciting offensive ball now. Plus, the great team defense of course. Pop is a great coach! This season shows it again.

I still am rooting for the Thunder, but I will be happy if the Spurs win it all. Either team should be able to dispose of the Heat/Boston.

Also rooting for the Thunder but you have to respect the Spurs. They are MASTERS in the fundamentals, and just flat out execute. And so well coached. I'm gaining more and more respect for Popovich, especially hearing him motivate his team during the time outs. I think if Vince Lombardi coached basketball, he'd have a similar style. That's the problem with most NBA coaches; there's this corporate, bureaucratic plastic nonsense that divides the players and coaches. No true respect. That clearly doesn't exist in S.A. and I think that's the biggest reason why they are where they are and have managed to attract and retain the roster they have. Leadership goes a long way. (For what it's worth, I think all 4 remaining coaches are solid)

We shall see... Not looking good for OKC but they still have a shot. If the Spurs do win, hopefully they go all the way.

    Tim you're right.

If OKC wins the next game there will be big pressure on SA to win game #5 or else we may have a 6 game series with OKC winning 4 in a row.

I can't see Boston beating Miami and it looks to me like Miami will be in the finals once again.

If Bosh returns in this series it could go only 5 games.

Yea, OKC tried their best to lose the game but SA just wouldn't take it.

        also...

From what I saw, the refs tried their best to help SA - but to no avail.

That offensive foul call on Westbrook when he couldn't even turn after catching the ball was a crock.

I was reminded of the Bill Walton quote of ...

..."since when is a elbow to the face a foul?"

I still wouldn't be surprised if OKC blows game 6 in OKC and then loses game #7 back in SA.

yeah did you see when he blocked that shot right before halftime when the whistle had already been blown? lol NBA playoff basketball!!! He'll mature... and despite his dumb plays (like that double dribble late in the game) he has moments of brilliance (like the clutch jump shot he had late in the game) Dude is fearless, gotta give em that...

Boston is one win away from defeating the highly over rated Miami heat! I must say, the Miami crowd is the least exciting in the playoffs. OK, you guys wore white shirts. How about making some noise? What is this? Tennis? Unbelievable!

The Heat just simply lack chemistry. I like Wade but he just looked disinterested in the final moments. Trying to be above it or some BS. The Celtics are for real. Championship players and coaching as they have proven in the past. I'm still pulling for and expecting the Thunder to win it all though.

I was amazed at all the hustle situations that the Celts won - almost every one of them - especially in the 4th period.

The Celts zone also threw the Heat for a loop and the Miami coach may be on his way out the door as he is being out coached by Doc Rivers IMHO.

I think we are!!! Yeah buddy, awesome to watch!

Kinda reminds me of watching the Bulls in the 90's... Yeah, I know... of course they are FAR from that kinda team at this point... but what I mean is you feel compelled to root for them. You can feel the confidence, the resilience, and championship type of attitude. It's like they're never out of a game.

I think we're watching the birth of dynasty. And c'mon... Let's all agree that KD is the undisputed MVP. It's really not even close. I did want the Celts to win, but I almost want the Heat to pull it out so they can get STEAM ROLLED by the Thunder just to show how much of a superior they are

That would be ideal but I'd rather Boston win, because Miami is capable of playing very good ball. I don't think as a team they are anywhere near the level as OKC, but with Wade and James they would have a chance, so I am hoping Boston gets it together for one moregame. Boston looked tired in the last game, for once showing their age.

OKC dispatches the Spurs in 6 games.

With the leading scorer in the league, the leading shot blocker, the 6 man of the year and another top 20 scorer I understand why they may well be the next NBA champs and a real force to reckon with over the next decade.

They also lead the league in turnovers which reminds me of the great Oakland Raider teams of yesteryear ( with their penalties ).

If this team stays together they will be a major prob for the other franchises for years to come.

The range of Keven Durant is frighting and I heard he's on a mission to visit the WH after he was somehow left out of a collection of NBA players that played with the POTUS last summer in his native D.C.

I look forward to another sports situation ( like with the Packers and Charles Woodson ) where the POTUS has to eat a little crow.

It should be good for a laugh or two.

LeBron James played one of the best games in recent NBA playoff history, going 19 of 26, scoring 45 points and grabbing 15 rebounds as the Heat blew out Boston 98-79 to force Game 7 - back in Miami.

    - Bosh gives Miami 28 big minutes along with 7 points on 3 of 8 from the field.

    - Paul Pierce goes only 4 of 18.

Why do I have the feeling that Miami and James will fall flat on their backs in game #7 after such a fine performance in game #6?

I'm really looking forward to the game on Saturday night.

Although OKC is following the natural progression to an NBA Title, it's the Heat's turn in the barrel.

I like what Greg Popovich said about OKC after they lost the series:

"As sad and disappointed as we are, you really have to think about it's almost like a Hollywood script for OKC in a sense. They went through Dallas, last year's champion, then they went through the Lakers, then they went through us. Those three teams represent 10 of the last 13 championships ... I don't know if anybody has ever had a run or gone through a playoff playing those kinds of teams. It's just incredible and I think it's pretty cool for them."

So, while I get what you are saying TL about Miami winning because they lost last year and if you look at it historically many times a team will have to lose in the Finals before winning, I think Oklahoma has proven they can beat the great teams. I think they will be the exception and win on their first try. We'll see though. The finals is certainly added pressure and that added pressure can get to a team, but these young guys on OKC seem oblivious to that pressure. The one guy I worry about the most for the Thunder is Westbrook. He needs to have a solid consistent series.

From a completely objective POV I really think OKC is gonna destroy Miami. Better players, better talent, better coaching, more heart, better chemistry, better fans...etc. Just about better in every regard.

From a personal standpoint, I absolutely hope they do, and look forward to watching. DWade is alright. And I kinda like Chalmers... but beyond those 2, forget it. It's a bunch of individuals and inflated egos... You have Chris Bosh with his 2 tacky diamond earings, and his "injury". I question anyone who sits out from the NBA PLAYOFFS over an "abdominal strain"??? And the fact he came back and played well, I think says a lot about how serious that injury actually was. Yeah, let's see how you play up against Ibaka... And then you have Lebron... when you declare you're going to win EIGHT championships before you even have won ONE... to me that declares that you'll never be one of the greats.

Yeah... there's NO WAY Miami is winning. I predict this Heat team will be to the NBA what the Bills once were to football. Lebron has sealed his fate in history as a talker, not a winner. I mean... did you guys see how they were celebrating in the locker room after winning the eastern conference finals??? To me, that tells you everything you need to know.

OKC in 5 - if Miami is lucky.

lol... Hey, when you're wrong you're wrong.

It seems like everything that could possibly go right for Miami is. Unreal shooting %, role players stepping up left and right... etc...etc...

And the opposite for the Thunder. Role players playing subpar. Shots going in and out. As Jeff van Gundy said "It's a make or miss league." And I definitely feel like that statement is applicable to this series. But you have to give it to the Heat - beating this Thunder team, they deserve the title.

This has turned out to be a phenomenal season. I'm just disappointed it's over! lol

And the Thunder are very young. My expectation is the next few years should be very exciting.

OKC doing to the Heat exactly what they did to the Spurs...Down double digits in the first half, make a little comback in the 3rd, then dominate in the 4th.

Yep! I think this was Miami's best chance of a win actually. I see about a 20 point win in game two when they won't have the jitters at the beginning.

I kind of have the same feeling. Plus, I don't think OKC's "other" players get enough credit. Their role players are pretty good at their roles. And Westbrook is Wade'e equal athletically. We already know Durant has ice in his veins.

For Miami, other than the Big 3 the only player I like and think can play is Battier.

It's remarkable how they seem to follow that same pattern and their two superstars really carry them in the 4th.

    What a game!

It seems like If the Thunder don't get about 16 fastbreak points each game they have trouble scoring.

    How about that Shane Battier?

Doesn't he have a national championship ring from Duke?

He's shooting nearly 50% from beyond the arc in the playoffs and averaging 17 ppg in this series.

    BTW...

Miami is passing the ball more than I've ever seen them before trying and getting good shots.

Miami also has someone other than the big three stepping up big but will OKC do the same?

The series is now tied at 1-1 with the next 3 in Miami.

Will the series return to OKC???

To be fair, scoring on the fastbreak is one of OKC's specialty (and it makes the pace+flow of the game in favor of OKC's style; like that 3 from Durant after steal on Wade)

Miami played really well in the 1st quarter, I actually stopped watching in disgust only to return in the last 4 mins in the 4th. It was a great ending (minus the nocall foul)

I think OKC will come out attacking in game 3, losing a close one like will get them ready for game3.

Watched "Murder At 1600" with the kid so I didn't see any of the game until about 10 minutes to go.

Youngboys miss their foul shots again as Miami repeatedly goes down low to win game 3 and go up 2 games to 1.

Thunder go only 15-25 from the charity stripe.

FYI, that 10 missed foul shots and they lost by 6 points.

This team lead the NBA in foul shooting percentage (81%) but they're only shooting about 70% in this series.

Heat win shooting only 38% from the field.

    I hear...

Youngboys could have broken the game open in the 3rd when they were up by 10 but then committed 2 fouls on 3 point shots that resulted in 6 straight points for the heat without any baskets.

During the same stretch, Durant was out due to foul trouble and the coach also sits Westbrook down for a long 4 minutes as Heat lead going into the 4th by 2 points instead of being down a bunch..

    End Game:

When Heat were up 84-77 with 3 minutes to go I said the Heat must score at least 6 more points and it would be almost impossible for OKC to win the game since OKC would have to score at least 14 big points the rest of the way in order to win

The Heat scored 7 in the final 3 minutes and hung on to win 91-85.

    On a Tightrope:

OKC can not afford to lose game 4 or they'll be down 3 games to 1 but I remember Miami being up 2-1 verses the Mavs last year and we all know what happened.

    Question??

Since a player leaves his feet on a "jump stop" move, why isn't it a up/down violation??

    Something I Noticed:

Heat coach Eric S. slips on the court often when his team is on defense providing a 6 man on defense and may have also clouded the angle on a crucial in bound OKC turnover near the Heat bench near the end of the game.

Former St. Johns coach Louie Canaseca used to do the same.

Yeah, one of those fouls on a three point shot was from the old man Fisher. A real bone head play. Is he a double agent sent by the Lakers?

This was a game OKC should have one. Harden is not shooting well, dumb fouls, missed free throws, crucial turnovers, ... Plus, the refs again seemed to be helping out the Heat the whole game. There must be some gamblers left among the officiating crew. Just some horrible calls. Miami lucked out to win this one.

    Big game tonight!

The pressure is clearly on OKC.

Since the 2-3-2 format was introduced no team that has been down 3-1 has won a series or even pushed the series to a 7th game.

OKC shouldn't allow Durant to guard Lebron or he could easily get into foul trouble again.

    My prediction for tonight?

    Miami 98-93

    Another barn burner!

I tuned in with about 10 minutes to go because I was watching the movie "Anonymous" with the kid, which is another take on Shakespeare where they folded his alleged story inside the Queen Elizabeth coup attempt etc.

    Good movie!

    Question:

Did or did not Russel Westbrook understand that there were only 5 seconds on Miami's shot clock and he was not to foul or not?

If he had been told of the situation then he made a ( imagine Donald Trump saying it )

    ..HUGH...

...mistake and robbed OKC of any chance to win after a brilliant performance.

With all those assistant coaches on the sideline, someone should have made sure all the players knew.

    I wonder what happened??

In any event, the youngboy/young team syndrome prevailed down the stretch in this and the last game...

... and now Miami has a decided 3-1 game advantage after a hard earned 104-98 victory.

I knew Miami had to score more than 90 points to win this game when I predicted a 98-93 final score in their favor.

If I were them I wouldn't want to go back to OKC.

6 man of the year James Harden was also the invisible man and a shout out goes to the coaches son, the man from the great state of Alaska, Super Mario as he showed up with 25 timely points.

    Most Interesting Stat:

Heat shoot 48% from field and 10-26 from 3 point land.

James Harden!!!!! Sixth man of the year!!!! Where are you???

To me Harden not showing up, and yes, even folding under pressure, is the difference in this series. Well, he only looks 35. He's actually just 22 and is showing it in the finals finally, after having a terrific playoff run.

Ibaka and Fisher haven't played well either. I was wrong in worrying about Westbrook though. Despite that last minute foul mistake. He has played great ball.

Is Lebron setting himself up for the biggest NBA finals fail of all time???

After being up 3 games to 1, if the Heat don't win this series, this will truly be the off season from hell for King James to the sheer delight of the Lebron haters.

According to ESPN, Lebron may be the most polarizing figure in American sport.

I can understand the hatred in Cleveland but no where else.

My wife hates him, citing his pronouncement of multiple future NBA championships as her reason - how dare he??

I neither like or dislike him.

If OKC wins tonight and wins the 6th game in OKC, I believe anything can happen in game #7.

I predicted Miami in 7 and would like to see 7 games since the season will be over after this series and we enter what I call the "Dead Season" and only MLB - which I don't watch unless it's the World Series.

    Enjoy game 5!

My problem with Lebron was the ESPN show to announce he was leaving. I don't think he's a bad guy. He's never done anything wrong off the court.

I just think he's an example of a generation that's more self centered than us old folks are used to.

Yep. And I'm also aware that his home town Cleveland (close enough) is really down finacially and Lebron leaving cost the city 100s of millions of dollars, as well as having something to cheer and feel good about about.

Being on "The Decision" only rubbed it in to a city that doesn't have much going for it right now.

Tuned in for the 2nd half after watching the movie "Time Cop" starring Jon Claude Van Dam with the kid.

    Well...

Miami schools a young OKC 121 to 106 earning Lebron James his first NBA title.

    Game Turning Point:

Despite a poor first half, the Thunder were only down by 10 at the break and were still in position to cut the lead to three or possibly two when Durant was leading a fastbreak...

He was stripped of the ball, and it resulted in a 3-pointer by Mario Chalmers.

Shane Battier then hit another 3-pointer on the next possession, extending the lead to 11 and the blowout ensued as the Heat went on to lead by as many as 27 points.

    - This game, it's Mike Miller who stepped up for 23 big points on 7, that's 7 3 point buckets in one gameas he set the NBA playoff mark for 3 pointers off the bench.

    - Westbrook goes 4 of 20 from the field in game 5 after being on fire in game 4.

    - James was outstanding again with his first triple double of the entire season and gets my vote for series and league MVP.

    - Heat shoots a whopping 52% from the field and goes 14-26 from downtown.

(54% and tied for most 3 pointers in one game in NBA Finals history )...

While OKC shoots only 42% from the field.

    - Heat had 6 men in double figures.

    - A young OKC will be back and will probably play the Heat again in another NBA Finals.

    - Head Coach T. of OKC was a class act telling his players to treat the Miami players like champions and also telling them they got beat far and square- no matter how much it hurts.

    - I don't see anyone in the east except Mr. Injury stopping the Heat from returning many times to the finals over the next 7 years.

    BTW...

The wife still hates Lebron and Miami and claims this championship should be a Laker championship because...

... jealous owners and the commissioner vetoed the trade that would have sent Chris Paul to the Lakers earlier in the year.

I was threatened with formal charges and eventual excommunication from the Laker Nation if I didn't agree with her.

Once again I lied to my wife.

All The Best & Thanks For Great Season!

Well, I was disappointed in the Thunder's effort in the finals and couldn't help wondering how the Spurs would have faired in the finals with all their experience. However, that OKC team is going to be one of my fvorites for years to come, especially if Scotty Brooks remains coach. He's a very good coach and real classy. Gotta tip your hat to the Heat, came through countless times when everyone counted them out. OKC will be a force to reckon with for quite awhile now with their new found experience. Already looking forward to next season

    Hey Tim...

    I like GS's pick Barnes.

The Nuggets actually picked who I thought they'd pick. The kid from France Evan Fournier. This is two years in a row I was right, except I wanted Faried last year and don't really care for Fournier this year.

It's time to start rooting for Anthony "The Brow" Davis. He seems like a pretty good kid.

I really am not that familiar with him Kurt but have read that he was the best available player. They definitely need a small forward though because Wright had a terrible year. The warriors got an A for this draft and your Nuggets got a B+:

Draft grades: Warriors, Thunder get A's; Cavaliers in cellar

Barnes is a good player, in my ratings I would have taken him 2 or 3. My draft "logic" is, when in doubt, pick the best player from the North Carolina. LOL

BTW, This just means if Barnes is any good the Warriors will trade him in a few years.

I think the Nuggest grade is for the second round picks. I wouldn't be surprised if the kid from Baylor Quincy Miller picked in the second round isn't a better player than the first round pick Fournier.

Yep, that is what the Warriors are known for. However, the new ownership seems very determined to change things. We'll see how the trades and drafts work out. Plus moving to SF is a good move although I like Oakland.

I haven't checked out the Laker picks yet but of course they look promising.

I'm not so sure about Mr. Davis but I also thought Alonzo Morning would be a bust because I thought all he did was push around the kids in college and wouldn't be able to do that in the pros.

Davis reminds me more of David Robinson. Both were smallish players that had a late growth spurt. They both developed the skills of g/f, then grew to center size at a later age.

Typical Lakers...They need to get other team's players. Just read they haven't drafted a starter since 2005. They sure miss Jerry West as GM. That guy could draft.

      LOL!

So Kupcheck isn't the GM Zeke From Cabin Creek was.

In any event, we now have the final piece to really compete with OKC in the west.

I am not concerned with San Antonio.

I'm looking forward to next season and hopefully Kobe will learn how to smartly move without the ball so he can get lots of easier shots.

The former 2X MVP Nasharoo should be good for 17 points and at least 9 assists per game.

Now with Kobe, Pau, Andrew and Artest we have 5 players who can score 20 points on any given night.

Our bench learned a lot this past season and should be ready to fulfill their roles.

Kobe has 2 maybe 3 more years to get that 6th ring to become the greatest Laker of them all.

Not even close. As a matter of fact, you could give credit to Jerry for getting Pau.

        No you don't.

I am not concerned with San Antonio.
Better be concerned with OKC and Denver.

So you want to teach an old dog new tricks?

I'll take the "under" for 17 points, but 9 assists sounds about right.

Now with Kobe, Pau, Andrew and Artest we have 5 players who can score 20 points on any given night.
And four players (not counting Bynum) that will need a double dose of geritol at halftime.

Kobe has 2 maybe 3 more years to get that 6th ring to become the greatest Laker of them all.
Kobe will never be the greatest Laker of them all. See Magic, Kareem, Wilt, Jerry, Elgin, Shaq and Miken.

I love Nash and he is a true freak of nature to be playing point guard at his level at his age, however he is worse than ever in covering other top notch point guards. Good luck with him covering Westbrook, Parker or Curry ( ) in a 7 game playoff series.

By the way, I saw Nash play when he played for the Santa Clara Broncos. ( I have seen Bronco bb games since the late 60s when they were ranked in the top 5 in the nation. My two brothers and sister went to SCU. ) Before I went to see the Broncos with Nash I read a bit about him and was eager to see him play. After seeing him play in person I specifically recall telling my sister and others that Nash would be an all star in the NBA. I saw something special in his play above and beyond what I had read. OK, I didn't think he would be a 2 time MVP of the NBA, so he did surprise me in doing that.

Father time has to catch up someday though TL. I think the Lakers gave up too much to get an almost 40 year old point guard , no matter how great he has been in the past.

Yep. The more I read about our top three players drafted this year the more I'm glad the Logo is on our side now.

I forgot West was with the Warriors now...That explains why I like the Barnes pick so much.

Time for a bit of whining from a disgruntled Magic Fan:

20 FRICKIN MILLION a year for Jameer Nelson?!? WTF?
          Are y'all insane?
          Waht happened to rebuilding?
So you Dumb Asses are prolly gonna let Ryan Anderson go and continue to kiss Dwight Howards ass. Speaking of Dwight, no doubt the kid is the best big in the league, BUT HE IS POISON to the Magic. Pushed the Org to get rid of Stan VanGundy, who only coached them to the playoffs 7 YEARS in a row, including a finals app, all with MEDIOCRE teams at best.
Good Riddance to Otis Smith, who was more of a cancer to the club than Dwight is. See: Gilbert Arenas, Vince Carter, trading AWAY Brandon Bass, Marcin Gortat.
My only hope is that Ticket prices are more reasonable when they are in the basement

As predicted above, the Idiotocracy of the Magic organization continues...
Traded Ryan Anderson to the New Orleans Hornets (poor kid) for some dude I never heard of before. Prolly to appease Howard.
            Sigh.
I cant wait for ticket ( and hopefully alcohol) prices to plummet.
            Love the new Arena.
At least we still got JJ Reddick.

My Warriors beat the hapless Lakers by 40! Second year pro Klay Thompson scores 24 and top rookie Harrison Barnes scores 23. Together they shot 10 of 12 from three point range against the woeful Lakers defense. The poor Lakers! Little do they know that my curse on them only gets stronger each year.

Interesting article here about the rookie Barnes:

                Hey Tim...

I'm telling you, I like the Barnes kid. I had him #2 or #3 in the draft.

And one thing about the Lakers...My Nuggets dominated the Suns last year, mostly because Nash can't defend Ty Lawson at all. Nash may help the Lakers overall, but he will hurt them when the play my Nuggets. Lawson is just way too quick for Nash.
