From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel citing statistics from a Public Policy Polling survey...

A recently completed national survey says what most Green Bay Packers fans have been saying for years: the Packers are America's Team.

The survey, conducted between Dec. 16 and 18, found that 22% said the Packers were their favorite team in the National Football League.

A total of 11% said the Dallas Cowboys were their favorite team, followed by 8% for the Chicago Bears, the New York Giants, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

A total of 7% said their favorite team was the New Orleans Saints, 6% for the New England Patriots, 4% for the Washington Redskins, and 2% for the New York Jets.

    Congratulations.

    I thought the Chiefs were...lol

    Couldn't believe that one.

Anyway, I've liked the Packers for some time, especially after I found out (years ago)
that they were the only 'publicly' traded team in the NFL.
I have a friend in L.A. that has one stock on his wall in a frame, thought that was cool as can be.
I may be mistaken, but I think the last time they sold stock (before now) was in the late 70's.

Edit: looked it up, the last time they sold stock was 97, my buddy got it before that though.

But they are back selling now, to refurbish Lambeau.

Do you have any stock, Dennis?...if you don't, now would be a good time to get some.

Jim, I don't have any stock in the Packers. To me, it's the kind of thing you'd like to have to hang on your office wall, but wouldn't buy for yourself...kind of like when my one of my newsletter subscribers named a star after me.

Yeah, the Packer loss was kind of a surprise, too many dropped passes and not enough offensive line. The bigger concern is the offensive line. It's been decimated by injuries. They just promoted a practice squad player and signed a street free agent to fill in. Rodgers better have his running shoes on when they play the Bears this Sunday.

Dallas may have annointed themselves, I don't know, but the Packers didn't. This was a national survey so it's the people's pick.

They must have, Chicago got 8% of the vote. They probably called more Chicagoans than 8% though, because a lot of Bears fans aren't too pleased with the team these days.

That size sample isn't unusual at all for surveys. I'm sorry your Vikings didn't get named though. It probably would have given the poll more legitimacy for you.

Yup, I do believe his jersey is the number 1 best seller right now, or was before the New England game. Rodgers might be number two. I'm pretty sure he was number one before Tebow-mania. It's all good. What's good for the game is fine by me, I'm an NFL fan first, a Packers fan second. I would point out that Rodgers finished as the top vote-getter in fan balloting for the Pro Bowl, so Tebow hasn't taken over everything.

@ Alan P. - Not trying to be a wise guy, but apparently a Dallas TV station got wind of that independent survey you didn't seem to think was legitimate because of the sample size, and they ran a survey of their own. Dallas TV station, running its own survey of who is America's team, and the results at the time of this post:

              Cowboys 12% (640 votes)
              Packers 84% (4355 votes)
              Other 4% (202 votes)

I guarantee you if they ran this again and in a different area it would be exactly the other way around. There are ten times more Dallas fans here in the metroplex than Packers fans. I live here and I can attest to that. If this survey were correct you'd see tens of times more Packers jerseys here than there actually are. There aren't that many really. There would also be almost nothing but Packers fans in the stands whenever Green Bay comes calling, which is also not the case.

You guys all know better than to trust 2 polls from random areas with low sample sizes that also have confounding factors and procedural errors. This just proves my point in the above post of mine that states that other teams fans are always rooting for any chink in Dallas' armor and wanting them to fail at any point. Grasping onto one simple poll like it were the actual holy grail does not constitute a reliable and valid fact.

Well, the Pack Of Green Bay have earned...

( except for the time the league cheated the Colts out of a victory with a bad field goal call in a playoff game. That's the reason you have the very high uprights now )

...the most - 13 NFL titles and if anybody should be America's team - it's them.

I wonder which team was America's team - in prior years??

Do the voters normally cast more votes for the team that just won the Super Bowl or has recently won a couple - etc. ???

Regarding Dallas, I think some Dallasions concocted this America's team scheme to help America forget - and who could blame them?

Congrats to the Pack and all their fans.

It's highly interesting that a paper in Wisconsin, coincidentally I'm sure, says that the Pack are America's most liked franchise and possibly America's new team. Excuse me for a second while I take a break to laugh and throw up in my mouth.

The Dallas Cowboys are the most recognized brand of NFL team world-wide. They are also not only the highest grossing team in the NFL, but are 3rd in the world behind Man U. and the Yankees. Basically, the Cowboys are the Yankees of the NFL.

Which brings me to the next point. Just because an 'x' amount of people like the Packers doesn't make them more popular than Dallas. There really isn't a legitimate poll to determine how many fans Dallas really has. In addition, regardless of actual fanship, this does not even take into account the fans that hate Dallas and want to see them fail at every turn. This is demonstrated in the fact that any Sunday night or Monday night game that has Dallas playing is the most highly rated. The top 5 Sunday and Monday night games are always the ones with Dallas playing in it. They just ignite things so much more than any story line or game about the Packers or Steelers.

So, when you look at total fans for Dallas with the total number that hate Dallas, the ratings, the brand, and the revenue, Dallas is STILL America's team one way or another. The Packers and Steelers fans will always argue against that with the Patriots getting involved over the last decade, but a large group of faithful fans that hate Dallas, a new America's team does not make.

Enjoy your vomit while I inform you of some things you seem to have missed.

      1. It was a national survey conducted by an independent polling company out of North Carolina. The WI paper just ran the story when they learned of it. It's been reported in many places in print, newspapers, radio, TV, and of course, the Internet. This poll falls within the standards for statistical validity.

      2. A subsequent poll, conducted by a DALLAS TV station, has the Packers more popular as well, receiving 90% of the vote to just 8% for the Cowboys, and 2% for "others". This poll, by a Dallas TV station, did rank the Cowboys first in one area ... the most hated team.

The Dallas Cowboys are the most recognized brand of NFL team world-wide. They are also not only the highest grossing team in the NFL, but are 3rd in the world behind Man U. and the Yankees. Basically, the Cowboys are the Yankees of the NFL.
According to what, your opinion? Here are the most searched for jerseys at the NFL Shop.

      1. Aaron Rodgers Jerseys
      2. Tom Brady Jerseys
      3. Tim Tebow Jerseys
      4. Drew Brees Jerseys
      5. Clay Matthews Jerseys
      6. Peyton Manning Jerseys
      7. Eli Manning Jerseys
      8. Mark Sanchez Jerseys
      9. Philip Rivers Jerseys
      10. Troy Polamalu Jerseys

I see two Packers in there, including number one. Hmm...no Cowboys. According to Business Insider, the top selling jerseys are:

      1. Troy Polamalu, Steelers
      2. Drew Brees, Saints
      3. Tim Tebow, Broncos
      4. Peyton Manning, Colts
      5. Tom Brady, Patriots
      6. Michael Vick, Eagles
      7. Aaron Rodgers, Packers
      8. Eli Manning, Giants
      9. DeSean Jackson, Eagles
      10. Mark Sanchez, Jets

Again, no Cowboys. If it makes you feel any better, Tony Romo was number 11. Anyway, recognition is not the same as popularity. Those who declared the Packers "America's Team" did so based on who football fans voted as their favorite team. Besides, recognition isn't necessarily a good thing.

...the fact that any Sunday night or Monday night game that has Dallas playing is the most highly rated. The top 5 Sunday and Monday night games are always the ones with Dallas playing in it. They just ignite things so much more than any story line or game about the Packers or Steelers.
Here are the ten most watched programs on television this year, with nine of them being NFL games. The Dallas and Green Bay Thanksgiving Day games top the chart, but there were no other game on when either team played so that doesn't really say anything.

      http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...e-week/114457/

A Packers game holds the 3rd and 8th places, while Dallas has the 6th spot. One of the Packers games was a Thursday night game so that doesn't count either. That leaves each team with one Sunday Night game played, the Cowboys against the Patriots, and the Packers against the Giants. Of the two, the Packers outdrew the Cowboys. Where's your proof the Cowboys draw more viewers? Remember, we're not talking ancient history, we're talking this year.

Opinion. I backed up what I said with facts. Dallas' star doesn't shine as brightly as it used to. You had your time in the sun, but you sure don't want to give anyone else theirs.

Look, I just wanted to have a little fun with that poll. These kind of moments don't come around that often. You've done the best you could to try and spoil it for me with your talk about throwing up in your mouth and such, but as far as I'm concerned, I'm done with you.

PS - The Cowboys gave themselves the nickname "America's Team". It was never anything more than that. At least with the Packers it is based on NFL fans preferences, not corporate internal ego.
