The Worst Ice Storm Ever

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH. We just had the worst ice storm ever. My electricity went out Tue. morning and didn't come back on until about an hour ago. The whole town didn't have electricity for 2 days and some businesses and thousands of homes still don't. There were no traffic lights. Wal Mart was even closed. Everything was closed. The college shut down and all students were kicked off campus. Ice, ice, ice everywhere breaking down trees everywhere. Some places didn't even have water. I didn't miss the internet, I just wanted heat. The gov. declared an emergency and the national guard was called in to help people. Tons of roads shut down.

We are sooooooooooooooooo dependent on electricity. The last few days were miserable. I went to another county with friends who still had their electricity. I can't live without electricity, I just can't.

    Val,

Forgot you were in the chosen land up there...

I got a little bit of snow, ice, and freezing rain yesterday but NOTHING like ya'll got.

I think one of our local utilities even sent a crew of electricians and and a couple trucks up to help out.

    Been there, done that.

    It sucks.

        Welcome to my world Val.
We had ours back in Dec., but we gave the potential for another one Tues.
I just finished my 4th day of plowing and salting.
Tomorrow it's clean and service the truck and salter day, then it looks like another busy week ahead.

You can live without electricity, you have to prepare for it. Oil lamps, pellet heaters with a flat surface so you can cook. It's tough, but you can get by. Just think about it, refrigeration....just put it outside and it'll be kept NICE AND COLD!

Whereabouts are you? Schools were closed here in WV for a couple of days, power blinked a bit but nothing too major. We're 100% electric here too so I know what you mean about wanting HEAT over Internet!

My power was off from LAST Tuesday night up until this Monday afternoon...and my internet was still down when I got home yesterday. What a nightmare. I had to stay with an aunt for the entire week, otherwise I would have frozen to death since I don't have an alternative source for heat. Looks like we had similar adventures, Valerie. I'm just glad everything's (somewhat) back to normal.

650,000 homes were without power in Kentucky alone at the start of it. I've heard somewhere between 7-10 people have died.

    Where are you Joshua?

It was a miserable nightmare. People went to shelters and the shelters didn't have electricity. My parents just got their electricity back yesterday. I didn't know about ice storms before. I've seen snow storms, but never an ice storm. I have friends who didn't have electricity yesterday and it's been a week now. They are staying with their parents.

Shay, if this EVER happens again I am getting on the interstate, heading south and I will go to your house near the beach!!

I'm just glad the county next to us didn't get the ice storm and didn't have their electricity off. Otherwise I'd have had to go to a shelter. I can't handle another ice storm, that was so miserable.

Just south of Louisville. They said we were right in the middle of it. I'm assuming you're pretty close by if you were affected as bad as you were. I'm just glad it's over...even though I still don't have any internet at home.
