I have a hell of a time getting this damned machine to do what I want it to do. How do you guys keep your computers from getting all gunked up with all this IM stuff? There's so many programs on this computer now that if I executed all of them, the beast would certainly die a fiery death. Right now, I'm keeping my browser open for the last goodies I bought, but I'm havin' a hard time getting the processes down to a manageable size. I'm only one guy, but sometimes I think I need an IT department!

One vexing problem is that I can't open Firefox sometimes. Found out using my CCleaner that its cache was skipped because it was open, but I couldn't see where.

  • Got one laptop that I use to browse the web, pay bills, watch movies, and then I got a desktop that is where I got the IM stuff. As much as I love firefox though, even with my fast desktop, thing is aalways crashing so now i use chrome and firefox only when I have to.

And of course, outsource stuff to others so that i don't install too many programs.
  • sorry to hear of your problems
  • GEE, be GLAD you aren't ME! On my laptop I decided to buy the first really nice one I saw, so it has a VERY small drive. It is only 620GB. It IS formatted NTFS though, so it uses space more efficiently. I have tried to put everything on it that I think is interesting, or that I have done, etc... BUT, you know how it is.... Incompatible formats.... Access problems.... Disk crashes.... Forgetting things.... Laziness.... Incompatiblities.... etc... I only managed to save about 311GB Some IS compressed though. Of course, I still have maybe another 200GB to add. 8-)

As an example, for databases, I have Oracle 11, Teradata 13, Mysql 4 and 5, and M/S SQL Denali. I don't think I have DB2, sybase, or postgresql or postgres. 8-( For languages I have PHP, PERL, JAVA, VS(VC++, VB, C#), FreePascal, GCC, GNAT.

It's a shame though! I had a version of erwin, for example. It works on EVERY version of windows from like 2000 on, EXCEPT vsta and windows 7. 8-( I had to say goodbye to that. 8-(

    • I'm tired. All I've done since I moved here is shuffle dirt and papers and fight this damned machine. I have a doctor's appointment in about an hour and he'll say he can't do much because I missed my blood work. I could bitch some more, but my life ceased to be fun when my ex died. I'm supposed to be retired and here I am constantly struggling for the next buck. If I weren't so damned stubborn, have a firm belief in God and personal experiences too close to me in the act, I'd have put a bullet in my head long ago.

Don't worry, I'll still press on but sometimes, it's just hard to see the sense in it.

  • I just got my computer back. Took two damned days, but now I'm bulletproof and Kapersky is singing! Don't know how much IM work I can do unless I can tone it down some, though.
  • Computer is the best invention of human. There are different types of work he will do in this machine. This is very useful machine for store the data and gives the best security to our data.
