Just a bit of a random question, just wandered what people are driving on their IM income.

I drive a fairly beaten up old VW Polo. Not living the high life... Yet

  • Bmw 318 Ci Coupe...... Nice drive
  • Im in a 2004 toyota tundra. Nothing fancy. Working everyday to increase results.

    • I have a Kia Sportage. Traded in a 2008 Toyota Tacoma 4WD Access Cab and I miss it, but it was a six speed and I lived in a congested town and my knee just couldn't take it any more. I'm in the country now, though, so an old beater pick-up is high on my list, but this fixed income is still killin' me.
  • There is something similar here.

Anyway I drive an 2005 Audi A4. It performs very well and it's very comfortable.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • A New white Dodge charger which unfortunately is a POS and it overheats easily. I"m quickly losing faith in American cars which I hope it can be regained soon by some miracle.

For some reason I always seem to end up jumping from a fancy car as it blows up... story of my life. : /

  • Audi R8 V10!

It cost $420,000 (the standard version) new here in Norway, so I would like to hear what it cost at your place!

    • WOW! Is that american dollars? I don't know about norway, but people in denmark apparently drive what in the US would be considered good low end transportation, and pay about what people in the US pay for mid range transportation. of course, I am NOT including US taxes, etc... on the US end, which don't affect the price TOO much, and I don't know if the danish price includes those charges which CAN be excessive!

APPARENTLY the Audi R8 V10 in the US costs about $149,000. AGAIN, NO TAX, ETC.... But it is a LUXURY car and a gas guzzler, so taxes, etc..., in the US, COULD be excessive!

Of course, the average US price is made to be excessive so the dealers can cut you a tiny "deal", and STILL rip you off. So the average american haggles. They may not do it for anything else, but they DO for homes and cars.

The audi has almost 3 times the cylinders, over twice the displacement, and less than half the MPG of the average car in the US that is the kind you would see in denmark. I'm saying it in that way because some of these cars have different specs for different countries.

    • Just picked up an older International Harvester Travellette (4-door/4-wheel drive/crew cab/short wheel base) that will become my daily driver.

That is with a bit of wrenching/replacing/fixing/sanding/painting first!

  • BTW I just have an OLDS Alero. It IS the high end version. Nice pickup, etc... Compared with the average car in the US, it has 2 times the cylinders, over 50% more displacement, and potentially about the same MPG, maybe as much as 30% less. At the time I bought it, it would have cost about twice as much. The Audi RB V10 costs almost 15 times as much, or over about 7 times what mine costs.

    • That's apparently an old article. Although I didn't find a date, one of the comments is dated 2009, which is when it first came out, so the auction in the article makes sense. I was talking about the 2012 model.

Just click build and price right above the picture. The one on the very top simply changes the car shown, and the one below it gets quotes from local dealers.

  • BWT taskemann, do YOU guys go to Flensburg germany also? They have signs all over saying "Vi taler dansk.". A LOT of Danes go there to save money. My uncle and I went on a bus there. I think it was from aarhus to flensburg. I believe it cost about 18kr(At the time worth about $3).

    Steve
    • [1] reply
    • No, we use to drive / take a bus right over to the Swedish border. We can buy everything we need for the half price there than it cost here in Norway (not electronics, because electronics are cheaper in Norway).

But it's not so many Norwegians who does this anymore because the salaries have evolved much faster than the consum prices the last teen years. So it's mostly the "five percenters" (unemployed pepole and immigrants) who goes to Sweden for shopping in these days.

And the Swedes goes to Denmark again because food and drinks are cheaper over there than it is in Sweden.

Just to add: If you buy a half a liter of beer on the pub here, then you have to expect to pay around $15 for it...

  • Ive been free of the car disease for 3 years and i love it.

I just got good at literally making an income from the laptop, and instead of giving my money to oil companies and insurance ass!@#$ + car dealers

i use the money i save to travel, and spend most of my time in Colombia, where i leverage the hell out of the USD. With USD you live like Pablo Escobar down there. You can easily just live off riding cabs over there. you'll spend like $200.00/month maybe if you go crazy commuting every day on a cab.

So my proud answer is i drive NO CAR, it really changed my life for the positive to get rid of it and adjust to a life without one, by living in places i can walk to everything.

    Really recommend it folks.

    • It's the same thing to own a car and drive it, with using a cab regularly. You're not paying directly the oil companies and the insurance ones, but the cab driver does it from your money.

Or is it just me ? (not trying to offend you or something)
  • Because you are so interested in Scandinavian culture Seasoned and have Scandinavian roots, then you should try this one time:

    • ALAS, I don't generally drink! MAYBE if I go to scandinavia and meet up with someone that IS a drinker. When asked if I drink, I generally say about 2-3 beer every 3 years. Then again, in the past 12 years, I have only had about 6 beers. 8-( I guess I am about due. THANKS though. 5% huh? WOW! HERE it is about 47%, and that is BEFORE counting the immigrants. My profession used to be over 80% american. NOW, it is about 80% indian! MOST are resident aliens, and most of the others WERE resident aliens! Most of the remainder were born to such! Even at HOTELS, it seems like over 20% are that way.

    • If you mean the audi originally discussed, I actually posted a link telling ALL about it. THIS is the single most complete picture shown there, from what I saw out of about 45 or so shown:

Of course, it is a high powered higher end sports car. It is actually CHEAP if you compare it to similar cars. But it IS expensive, and I guess norway makes that FAR more so!
