STUDY: SOPA Coverage No Match For Kim Kardashian And Tim Tebow | Media Matters for America
  • This doesn't surprise me - I read a recent media statistic about Bill O'Reilly spending aprox. 48 min. talking about the "war on Christmas" last month - and about 14 min. talking about the actual war...

I know a lot of it...what a lot of us do, (let's face it, we are spin doctors) - is "wag the dog"...but -

It is "altered-reality" journalism...people who don't want to know what is really happening, but feel 'obligated' to stay 'informed' - and subsequently are informed about nothing that matters...

Why don't they just watch a channel that shows stories and pictures of puppies and kitties all day?

About 20 years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Walter Cronkite, and I asked him 2 questions. One was about his comment about the Vietnam War (about how when he said we were losing the war, it changed the tide of mainstream opinion about our position) - and the other was about his opinion of these "news shows" (like 'Inside Edition'and 'Hard Copy') -

On the first question, he said that if he had known his comment would have made that much difference, he would have said it a LOT sooner...

And on the second, he kind of smirked, and said frankly - I don't know why they bother...if you have news - report news. If you don't - don't...that falls under the category of 'entertainment' (human interest) - not news...they are really all a lot of fluff - (in other words, they don't report news - they sensationalize it.)
