It's a difficult argument - and if it was agreed to by both parties, it's not our business to make judgment. I think he should be able to survive on $75 million and he still has huge earning potential.

I think 50% is fair when a man's behvior led to the divorce, when the lifestyle was dictated by his income for years - and when children are involved. If you are rich and plan to play around you better be smart enough to have a pre-nup. He wasn't.

I don't think she was a "gold digger". He played around - she got even.

    Checkmate.

Marriage is risky, what with 50% divorce rate. A woman is probably better off marrying a nice rich guy vs a nice poor guy.

Just because a woman doesn't have a "job" doesn't make her less entitled to family money. Just because she didn't get paid for what she did to keep that home functioning, doesn't mean she's worthless. She also bore his children. That's wear and tear on the body and those kids are hella work to raise.

If a guy isn't ready to give over half to a woman who bears his children -- he should not impregnate her. If he's not willing to consider what she does in the home, for him, and for his children, he shouldn't get married. Women are not servants to be dumped off as convenient. As part of the household she deserves to reap her share of the household if things don't work. The law gives each person half, and each knows that from the get go.

With that said.........we don't know what happened for things to go so wrong with this marriage -- but he went into it knowing that she would be entitled to half of his household if it didn't work. Each of them will walk out with more wealth than anyone ever could really need in a lifetime. So why do we feel justification in being indignant over who got what? The only thing I can say is I'm sorry the marriage didn't work. It really hurts when love doesn't work out.

Kobe is the one who married without a pre-nup.

I would have advised against not having one - as SOP - standard operating procedure - for person in his situation.

10-20 mill, and child support would have been fair in my opinion.

    But half???????????????

    half?????????????????????????????????

    half???????????????????????????

Kobe would have made his millions with her or without her.

He was foolish IMHO, to marry without a pre-nup.

TL I can sorta understand the reasoning behind the half (almost).
Her lawyer, "Your honor my client gave up the potential for her own career to stay home and raise the kids and support her husband."
      The reality of that statement.
She married Kobi instead of some other player who made a little less money.

By the way I agree. If you're not smart enough to have a pre-nup with that much money at stake, your not smart enough to have that much money.

Her own career wouldn't have netted her 1/10th of what she got. Who can blame her though, we live in a society where money rules everything.

I feel much worse for an "average" looking female who bears kids by some loser, then leaves him and gets half of NOTHING. LOL

          Me too.
With all the money he has I'm pretty sure it wasn't to hard to supervise the nanny and maid.
Let's face it a woman marrying that much money isn't going to have a hard time with kids and house work.

I think it is justified. No pity from me for Kobe. He made a mockery of his wife and their marriage by being a male slut with other women. She got even, defending her honor and taking care of her interests. Good for her.

Bet he now wishes he had taken his parents advice of getting a pre-nup. I remember Kobe didn't speak with them for a period of time regarding this.

Puts me in mind of Tiger Wood's ex. She just purchased a 12,500,000 mansion at Palm Beach AND TORE IT DOWN. Seems she liked the lot, not the house. Easy money she didn't earn. Rumor has it that the house she is planning to build is so large it may need to be exempted from current beach front building restrictions. Not to worry. She has plenty of money to grease the local politicians. Her settlement was around 100 million. Talk about your cash cow.

Put yourself in her shoes and see what you position you take on this.

Not only do we not know much about her, we aren't privvy to the details of their every day life in the marriage.

I think this is too far above our ability to judge correctly without knowing a lot more.

Hi. I think it's fair if it's a certain portion of what the couple has lives on since being married. You have to remember that their expenses are probably very high, since they have million dollar mortgages, insurance, college for the kids, ect...

Just living at a higher level needs more money.

he was wrong for cheating yeah, but if she is getting all he has now,and thats not enough, then they better off apart, god gave her everything she ever needed! including the ability to show that a man dont define her!

He was wrong for cheating but still this justice system is crap. She did not have a job, he made all that money. I feel for kobe cause he such a hard worker, we're talking about a guy who stays after a loss to practice because he wants to be better.

But he has a lot of money, so its alright, atleast the kids are going to live good which is the most important thing in this situation.

    He was wrong....but... ????

Old rules still seem to apply. The man can cheat and be excused. Is that because it's proof of virility that other men admire? It's funny how long the stereotypes just keep popping up in this thread.

You only hear about marriages when they go bad. A good marriage is a closed loop with the family inside the circle - everything else is secondary. If you've never had one - it's hard to understand it.

Cheating is cheating and it's a two way street...

    However,
her timing is impeccable, just over the ten year mark, which in California is a landmark for divorce and support.

That's quite a coincidence...she knew what she was doing.

Hmmm.. interesting. If in fact this is true, then who could blame him for cheating? The better question would be.. why did he marry her in the first place?

Like Thom once mentioned, I have no sympathy for ANY woman or man who has 99% of their work done by the maid or butler.

If this is just made up, someone could be facing an ugly lawsuit for online slander. That said, so what if she did did whatever before she was married at age 17. People do lots of crazy stuff when they're teenagers and make mistakes. She had his children, stood by his side in the face of rape allegations, his various dalliances, etc. and finally had enough. I guess if I have any feelings about her, it is envy. I wish I was getting that kind of money, lol.
