I was toying with watching a movie, and saw it at a nearby krogers, and decided to buy it.
MAN was it well done! The type of therapy they were trying is one that has been tried! The primary thing they were trying to do has been a goal! Long story short, they have probably been trying this sort of thing and, if they did, this is the kind of thing that could happen!!!!!!

The movie was "RISE of the planet of the apes". The original franchise EVENTUALLY showed how the changes started, but, if it hadn't, THIS would have fit in well. Of course, the original franchise had a temporal paradox, and this doesn't rely on such things.

Without giving too much away, I should say that brains, though remarkably complex, are STILL not optimal. There is a lot of wasted space, etc, and usually connections aren't optional. In human babies, for example, around 2yo, there is a massive pruning that takes place, to try to cut dead weight. Well, rise examines what might happen with an ape if the brain were more efficient and could keep growing, rather than getting pared back. Could it possibly become as smart as a human, and rebel?

Anyway, they managed to get "Andy Serkis". MAN, is he a great actor! They showed him acting like the chimp the movie revolves around and it seemed very realistic. EVEN the pictures that showed him as a human in a gray costume with green dots over his face, and a camera covering his face. He is apparently considered THE expert as a motion capture actor, and it showed here.

In case you don't know, motion capture uses dots and other reference points to draw a kind of skeleton that is used to control drawing objects(in this case primates) on the screen. This is a type of CGI, but normal CGI is far simpler and more forgiving. Motion capture helps automate the motion of limbs, and expressions. Attempting to do this other ways is either very primitive and unrealistic, or takes a ridiculously long time.

In the original franchise, they TOTALLY changed the looks of the primates, and they all spoke normally and acted pretty human, so the old prosthesis technique was fine.

ALSO, one thing often not discussed about the type of therapy used to make the apes smarter is that it requires changing billions of cells, etc... and there is no real technology to do so, so they use VIRUSES! They talk about THAT in this movie. I would go on about that, but I don't want to give it away. Maybe you can see where I am going.

If you DO watch this, watch the WHOLE thing. In the end they scream in a subtle way about what happens. Hopefully people will realize that that CAN happen, etc...

ALSO, apparently they tell one minor fib in the movie, although the first time was probably to setup a second. Apparently chimps will sometimes hold their hand out as if asking for a tip. In the movie, they SAY it means "Do I have your permission". Apparently it means "I realize I have wronged you, I apologize! Do you forgive me?". MAN, sometimes I wonder who is, excuse the expression, more human! Anyway, I guess they said what they did the first time because it fit THERE and was close enough to make the second time make sense.

I will say that the other creatures bully and torment the lead character here. Two torment him a LOT. The lead character, named ceasar, shows he is better than they are, and can help them. They eventually ask his forgiveness!

BTW the leader obviously grew to HATE humans, and all, but even in the end showed respect and trust of his caretaker. He cared for his family and only betrayed him once in a minor way to save his fellow primates.

OH and they explained EVERYTHING in the movie! I hate movies that do something like this and you wonder HOW did he know that? WHY did he do that? etc... HERE, they showed ceasar in places where he could find out every little piece of the puzzle. There were probably like a dozen things he had to figure out. They EVEN show how he cased his prison, and built trust.

If you are into politics, corporate misgivings, scifi, health, viruses, new therapy methodologies, nature, primates, etc... You will probably like this movie. They got a LOT of expression from ceasar! Around the middle of the movie, you can see a lot of joy, etc... I imagine if I were a young chimp, I would do the same. In the end, there is relief. I really didn't give away too much.
