In Australia the Education of their young ones is of prime importance to their way of life and cultural heritage.

Here we have a snapshot of little Bertram on his first visit to the zoo.

His parents are proud of the fact that little Bertram is witnessing at first hand one of the many positions that he maybe offered in his future life.

We do of course wonder what the lady in the background is searching for with her hand.
This has been a 'Cultural Post' on behalf of the Australian Department of Youth Education.

Feeding the kangaroos is a position the Brits should be used to by now.

As for the Kiwis... some years ago when my daughter was in primary school and my work required me to travel a lot, we were living in NZ for several months and my daughter attended the local school near Nelson, a town of about 50,000. The local kids immediately accepted her into their play, games, and school activities and made her feel welcome. I've never forgotten their natural goodwill!

Shortly after, we continued on to another English speaking country and she again was enrolled in the local school for several months. This time she was treated as a foreigner, was endlessly teased and school yard play seemed to consist mostly of scoring points off other pupils.

They say that travel is a learning experience and now that she is older it is clear she has decided kindness and generosity are values she prefers. Traveling provided many contrasts, even for one so young, and has helped her to better understand - even appreciate - attitudes and ideas that help us to lead more satisfying lives.

That doesn't mean we'll stop teasing the Kiwis!

Ah, now I understand. Thank you, David. I shall be more empathetic with Gareth in his subsequent postings.
