Which OS is on your computer?

I'm using Linux Mint 12 on my brand-new laptop. Reasons? Linux is a free OS, which means the laptop that might have cost me $1500 plus with Microsoft or Apple was a little less than $1000, and also it impresses all my geek friends.

Vista is indeed a POS. I have heard 7 is pretty good, but I can't afford a copy right now to try it out.

I never had vista going from XP to 7.
I never had many problems with either of them.
      Just the usual slow loading.

@geek I downloaded the CD ISO of Linux mint 12, looks kinda interesting.

      Main Page - Linux Mint
I downloaded the CD ISO cause I didn't have a blank DVD lying around.
I only ran it from the disk for a short time, I liked the clean look.
I'll look into it more, and maybe install it on my other machine (if I ever get it working again).

Can't really tell you how easy it is to install since the guys who built my laptop did it for me (and sent me the disk in case I ever have problems). But every OS install I've done has gone reasonably well, including that one time I installed Ubuntu on an old laptop. If you have questions about install or anything else, I suggest checking out the Linux Mint forums.

My laptops all have 7. My desktop has dual boot Ubuntu (thanks Thom) and 7. Vista totally sucked. 7 doesn't give me issues, but it IS a typical slow loader. I can deal with that though. What do I care if my load time is 60 seconds instead of 15 or 20? What's the rush? Besides, if I am not traveling my systems usually stay on for a week or longer between boots.

Yeah, I think you, Kim, and I can all agree - we know why they called it "Vista"...cause' I want to find the nearest one and throw my laptop off of it!

Is it too late for a class action suit?

Possibly not but don't take my word for it. Issues with Windows was one of the reasons why I switched to Linux. (Just a tip: If you ever start thinking about virtual machines, never EVER use Microsoft's Hyper-V. Go with the open-source VMWare instead.)

On my Macbook Pro, Snow Leopard and Windows 7 running Virtual Box to run both OSs same time. Lion sucks, it's buggy and glitchy vs Snow Leopard. On PC/laptops Windows 7 with no bloatware. Vista sucks, it's a major resource hog, Win 7 is what Vista should have been.

How old is the desktop? B/c I have a quad core desktop with 3 monitors and I can be Forex trading with streaming feed's and news running, browsers with dozens of tabs open, media downloading and encoding, and graphical work with no slow down on Win 7.

Well, it's one of the many varieties ("flavors") of Linux. It's a favorite among geeks who like to be able to download and install free software without legal hassles. OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office, Gimp instead of Photoshop, that kind of thing. You can learn more about it at the Linux Mint Official Website.
