I have been using PayPal since the beginning and have never had a problem with them. Payments are fast, transfers are almost instant, and customers love it.

BUT, do you trust PayPal 100%? Like.. to the point that you'd trust a bank (not that banks should be trusted either O.o)

No way do I trust Paypal. I had murder with them last year trying to withdraw around $9000 to my bank account. Took me about 4 months. Their reason? I relocated from Canada to Spain.
They just couldn't get their head around it. I sent them every piece of paperwork I had and they were still giving me the run around.

This WORLD is WEIRD! NOBODY seems to understand that I travel a LOT! Trying to buy stuff online, etc... is HARD! I once had to DRIVE from one state to another because the idiots couldn't get it through their heads!

Then again, the airports NEVER got it through their heads that most people there are TRAVELING!!!!!! DUH! And a fair number of them have BAGS! DUH! And yet it is the most dangerous and unsafe place to be if you are traveling!

      1. Restaurants pack things poorly, and it may require use of BOTH hands!
      2. Bathroom stalls are small, and have HIGH skirts to make it easy for thieves to steal your stuff!
      3. They have HIGH chairs at restaurants with small tables to make it VERY difficult to keep your stuff safe.

      etc...

I'd say I trust Paypal about as much as I trust anything online. Which is to say, not entirely 100% because I know it CAN be hacked or there might be a hiccup in the system that wipes out the money I have in the account. I have heard about them giving people BS about stuff too. All I can say is, do not trust Paypal with large sums of money, do not rely on it to "hold" your funds, and only log in if you are actually going to do something with the money in your account.

No - I don't trust Paypal at all. I've had my bad experience with them and that was enough to lose all trust in them. I certainly wouldn't rely on them as my payment processor for my business.

Since PayPal isn't really a bank then your money isn't insured. Just keep this in mind when you have a large amount in your account. Their service however is pretty good and efficient.

You really dont have a choice.
As soon as I started getting some payments to my account they put a 21 day hold on my money for no reason, and it was never lifted. I try not to leave a large balance in my account. I have read many stories about bad experiences with paypal. If it is your only source of payments, be careful!

Maybe I sound old-fashioned, but I have never believed these systems, PayPal or any other. I don't feel secure in the Internet, so I still prefer cash and credit cards.

It is really tempting to view Paypal as the ultimate payment solution when you're starting out with your business. It's easy. It's quick and everybody uses it, or so it seems.

Trust Paypal? No. The good news is Paypal will soon be inundated with competition and its heyday will soon be but a quaint memory.

I run about 2k though paypal every month (for the last 8 yrs) and never had an issue but some time soon I'll probably spike that up if I run a few WSO's. I have heard horror stories about paypal so, no, I don't trust them 100%. if they are willing to screw others then they could do it to me also.

Well I had an account when I was 13 (that was 8 years ago) being stupid trying to make money via paypal. I made around $50 and got my account suspended. I tried contacting them but never got a response.

My account was frozen and I never saw the money

I guess it's understandable, you do need to be 18 to have an account.

However, I have been using paypal since for the past 3 years with no problems, in fact their support staff is very helpful.

I've used them for many years and never had a problem. But do I trust them? NO. I withdraw my balance at every chance I get. They've built themselves a pretty strong reputation for having diabolic procedures and unhappy customers.

      Agree completely.

The way I view Paypal, with their spurious chargeback policies, is like this: any money you receive through them might be frozen or charged back. Yes, you can usually jump through some hoops to get it back - but not always. Accept the risk that whatever you are selling, you run the risk of giving one of them away now and again. If you sell $5 widgets, you can stand the odd "item not received" claim and not care. If you sell items at $300 a time, you will be mighty p!ssed when they start freezing one transaction in every 100 for "security reviews" or some other BS.

We need to keep an active eye on our accounts. I agree with many that they are not a bank, but a money processor. So I will be keeping a very close interest in protecting myself. They may not have (in our eyes) the right to freeze our monies, but the thing is try to stop them. From what I hear it is very difficult to communicate with them.

Paypal gets a bit easier to use when you have an LLC with an EIN, verifiable physical address, etc. I keep about a 10% running balance in there to account for refunds (3 in 4 years) and to operate the business. Still, I am very happy that about half of the money I make online is a direct deposit from Amazon and a couple of other smaller venues and never goes near Paypal. Interesting item on CNBC the other day. Analyst mentioned that Paypal was worth more than the market cap of Ebay. That means if Ebay shut down the stock would actually go up. How big does it have to get before we see some real regulation?
