How do I set up a simple Family Updates site with passwords for multiple family members?

Hi guys,

I have been corralled into building a Family News site, and don't want anyone other than family members to have access.

I am sure this is a simple thing, but I have never done it before, and only want family members to have access, each with a unique password.

I do not want some loser from the 'net stumbling across it and accessing any possibly sensitive info.

I have NO IDEA how to proceed, and am sure this is probably a simple task.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Patrick

I haven't done it,but from the sounds of it you could do a simple WordPress site with a free or very cheap membership plugin.

There is NO way it will be simple, unless there are packages that communicate together well, that you can get, that can do it. Even a programmer would take a while doing it from scratch. My first impression of what you asked was something like wikipedia(The SOFTWARE, NOT the famous site). I BELIEVE it can be locked so only registered users can use it.

The benefits are that it keeps a history tagged by user and any user can access any part they are allowed to.

Kim's suggestion is OK, but I believe any part can only be accessed by the one person. AND, if you want to do THAT, I believe there are othe packages that can do as well WITHOUT commercial software.

Couldn't you just do it with a forum and simply make it private? Then people can write threads, post pictures, etc. Would that not solve your needs? If you go for a commercial version like vBulletin I think you get a pretty good solution...

I think kim and I were thinking about one where you could have articles, blogs, and regular pages. a forum wouldn't quite do it.
