That there are a couple of WSO vendors who hide behind female personas when they are male? I am just wondering why anyone would do that if they are interested in creating any trust with their buyers?

Well, I'll fess up to something similar. I have an affiliate/Adsense blog on periods. All content is amazing and written by a women. But I am a male. Now I don't think I'd build much trust if I was "honest" and said, hi, I'm Bill, let me help you with your period problem :p

Is it ethically wrong, maybe. But I feel it balances out because the site gives really useful and helpful information for free. Really low bounce rate.

So I guess I am guilty of pretending to be a women.

On a more personal note, does wearing my mother's clothes and putting on lipstick count as well? Not that I do this...at least not really...or often. Okay, maybe sometimes. But only in the house.

Well Eben Pagan always says you need to get in to the mind of your target market. I dont see a better way than dressing up as women and puting on make up

LMFAO! Mr Bacon I only found you tonight but count me in as a fan.. No I get the marketing angle elsewhere.. in fact it's funny you should mention it but I also have a female oriented site. I have listened to my girlfriend talk over and over about her time of month to the point that when I saw Godaddy hade a sale on .info sites for less than 2 quid and what with all the amount of stuff there seems to be to talk about the one thing i thought, ah yeah - i might start up a site on that. I just threw it together and am going to get back to it - realistically in more than 6 months time. Web sites, to me, are like a fine wine. If you haven't the time but can afford to keep them then why not? They only get extra value in the SERPS cos of their age.
Anyway I digress!!! I originally meant - people selli9ng WSOs masquerading as women when they are men. Has happened to me twice recently. It's not hard to spot. But it makes me really wary of trusting anything they have to say... Why not just be yourself on this forum??

Yes, I wouldn't feel too great about a situation like that here. I suppose they are doing it for the same reason as above, maybe. Who knows why some people do what they do. Basically, realize what you have learned and just don't make the same lame mistake.

Why anyone wouldn't just be themselves on a forum where relationships are really important is beyond me. Maybe they are shy. embarrassed, no confidence, or just really boring people with nothing useful to say. Who knows? But no, I most likely wouldn't trust anyone using a persona here.

i know of a lot of people who in person are not the people you see here. I think it sucks actually. And as soon as I see their real colors I'm out. That's why I started my blog, StreetBacon. To be myself and start my own little "tribe". Hopefully people who end up reading it and like the content are like me.

I think as things move forward the really successful people will be the ones who are truly themselves and offer real value. People who are personable and trustworthy. Trust goes a LONG way, and once it's gone, there really isn't much you can do about it. But it is something you can only build over time.

Got to agree with you there! Only thing that made me feel good was that one guy who posed as a woman ( I bought her/his/their WSO - depending on whether you believe the PayPal account name or the WF name) had a WSO on the same subject as the one I am putting together. It is a few years old and still has buyers recently. I thought 'uh-oh!' then I read it and thought - "oh thank Christ it's so bad, mine will shine in comparison!!" but then I wondered if I was supposed to just accept the drivelly crap it was just cos it was supposed to be a woman writing it. Most of the IMers that I respect most and whose blogs I frequent most are female - I just think they are easier to connect with. But this guy/gal was all wrong!!

    LOL...

The answer, it is a psychology thing. A woman is supposed to be easier to talk to and trust. (I know married men are cringing right now..lol.)

Example: When you got in trouble when you were a kid. Did you want your teacher to call your Mom or Your Dad?

Your mom might give a little understanding and you might not get in trouble as much as while your dad would just spank your a$$

Interesting concept though. I had a customer email me last month we will name him "BOB" so I went to his site, it had live chat, so I clicked on it and "Sarah" answered the live chat. I asked is BOB around, he said I am.. laughing.. im like ok, he replied its just easier for people to answer and chat with "Sarah" ...

Cross dressing on forums is very common. Whenever I see a cute young thing pic, with an enticing forum user name, I'm suspicious. I'm not sure why people want to do it. It probably does help with collecting thanks and 'wow, that was a nice post' comments.

On Simple Machines forums you can choose a gender sign that shows with the rest of your profile info at the left of each post. One person on one of the forums I used to hang out in, had a very sexy female photo, and the male gender sign underneath.

He wasn't serious. He would get comments like 'wow, you sure are a looker' and someone a little farther down the topic would tell the person who typed that 'did you happen to notice his gender?'

There are probably more fake "women" than real ones on the forum.
The fake pics usually give them away.

"one guy who posed as a woman ( I bought her/his/their WSO - depending on whether you believe the PayPal account name "

This is by no means a way of determining if someone is using a fake name or hiding their gender.
There may be many different reasons why The names might be different.

And of course there are reasons one may assume a gender that is incorrect.
My name is Kim and I am not a female, though many make that assumption. And unlike today,it was such an unusual name for a male that I never met another male named Kim until I was in high school.

As far as having a different name on your Paypal ,there are many people who have formed a business, for example a llc, with someone other than themselves as the head.A wife would be an example, and this could be for tax purposes or whatever. But it would not indicate that they were 'posing" ,imo.
